Podcasts.

Cruising on the highway is dull. My mind wanders with music. I start to daydream and eventually get tired and my eyelids start to get heavy.

Podcasts keep my brain active and awake far more efficiently.

For shorter trips I listen to Porcupine Tree, Pain Of Salvation, Devin Townsend etc.

I was right there with you until 6-8 months ago. They played their hand way too hard and showed how controlled they were. I listened for a while to see what they wanted people to think but it got so bad and annoying I just stopped.

I listen to more right wing stuff now. Ive caught them wrong many times as well, but its almost never manipulative garbage like on npr. Npr still has some interesting non-political non-world event segments though.

I try to stick to State of Trance, classical, or stuff like Tool.

I have a big interest in media integrity and try to get something from all sources and all sides of the spectrum, honestly. I don't feel as if NPR are "controlled" -- it's no secret most journalists are liberal or left leaning (function of the profession and the typical background of one), but I've never felt like NPR explicitly lied or tried to sway me to have a certain viewpoint.

I don't want to turn this thread into anything political though. I mean, Car Talk is an NPR show.

>NICE TO MEET YOU
>WHERE YOU BEEN
>I CAN SHOW YOU INCREDIBLE THINGS
What is little known is that her song "Mean" was written about her executive producers trying to influence her music and treating her like she was just some kid (which she still is, tho, desu let's not lie about this). Then when it came time to write for Red, her producers begged her to include at least one song with the twang or banjo or steel guitar but she was like "no. fuck you". Risky but seemed to pay well off.

Koodus to her for sticking to her guns despite leaving country as a whole. Hell - better than going full breakdown like many other child (or teen) stars. Probably something to do with her parents' involvement and her small town roots.

Anyway, 1989 is probably the best pop album of that year and even /mu/ will reluctantly agree to that.
>>
>>16653297
It might be the best of that year, but in general pop is pretty shitty, so a talented artist can make the best album no problem.

>NICE TO MEET YOU
>WHERE YOU BEEN
>I CAN SHOW YOU INCREDIBLE THINGS
When I heard that I had hope for the rest of the album, but sadly it was not what I hoped for.
It's growing on me though, I start listening more to it and hating it less.

Also, Bad Blood is just an example of producer influence. Also, Kendrick Lamar is actually a pretty good artist in his own rights. To Pimp a Butterfly is like a 9/10 album.

It may just be some of the hosts are indoctrinated and truly believe certain things. I've heard some hilariously bad things on there about Syria.

Yeah car talk is a good one and certain random segments about random topics can certainly be interesting. I've been trying to switch back from talk into music. Driving is a lot more relaxing that way.

Audiobooks are also amazing if you have over a 10 minute commute. You will finish a book before you know it and if you find a good one, you will find yourself looking forward to your drive to find out what happens. I got through like 15 books in a year just by listening on my old 40 minute commute that way.

Zayn made significantly better music than he did during one direction and despite it being for a movie sound track, their duet was bearable. Zayn also doesn't have the intelligence to make good music but good for him for trying. I can respect that.

I can't stand listening to talk radio, it grates on my ears and activates my autism. My dad used to listen to it as we carpooled to my school/his office (an hour drive, fucking boonies) and I almost went insane. It was everything I could do to fall asleep and try to ignore it but then I got fever dreams. To make it worse, he left the bass turned all the way up which is FUCKING AWFUL for listening to speech.
>>16653292
It's either that NPR has nothing to prove and isn't really trying to sell anything because of how their funding works, or nobody who talks on NPR is the kind of "entertainer" that claims to be a journalist elsewhere. They're actual, knowledgeable people interested in talking at length about a topic instead of making a scene to get more listeners.

Ariana is a weird case of disney-fied pop music. I personally can't fucking stand her but better than Miley Cyrus. Anyway see: >>16653510. My brain is starting to hurt.

Metallica has a lot of fatty songs like ...and justice for all, Call of Ckthulu, The Judas Kiss, etc. Great for driving but I'd never listen to all oft those songs when not driving.
Ride the Lightning > Master of Puppets > Kill 'em All > Black Album > Death Magnetic > Everything else > Ariana Grande > St. Faggot.

I can relate. I don't have a problem with all talk radio, but when I was young my mother would listen to AM talk radio during the day- and that meant an assful of Dr. Laura whenever I got stuck with her during the day. Listening to her judgmental ass has given me a mortal hatred for that woman.

I listen to news and information. It is practical and makes better use of my time while waiting in the car driving down the highway. Time in the car is time wasted in not getting anything done.

Hank III is literally one of the worst cunt-tree artists alive. And I say this after knowing of the existence of Jason Aldean AND Kike Bryan.
He tries to be his old men but he is not nor should he try. It's like a bad cover band of songs that never existed.

We can all circlejerk over Aeroplane and the same 10 shoegaze albums when the time nears.

Excluding "eurobeat type" music makes it hard because even songs like Dancing Queen by ABBA are in the eurobeat classification (wikipedia).

I have a pretty large taste in music so if I'm jumping on the interstate just to get around town quicker then I will listen to whatever.

On road trips I like to listen to well-meshed albums all the way through i.e. Marshall Mathers LP or Hypnotize by System of a Down is another good one. Love The Eagles too

>What does /o/ listen to when cruising on the highway?

I don't pick songs by category like synthwave or eurobeat. I simply make up my own favorites collection on the USB thumb drive. I occasionally update the list to add new songs and if I remove songs, I don't delete them but move them to a MISC folder so that I can still listen to them. That way, those songs aren't so prominently grouped or named on the car's touchscreen display.
