slow piece of shit
>>
>>16647557
Front facelift looks horrible in person, engine still horribly underpowered.

Steering and control in general is great, good road feel

Critics need to realize it's not a racecar and more of a tourer, it's fun for zipping around backroads but if you think you're going to be able to stoplight race in it you're sadly mistaken and should throw in a few extra grand for a mustang.

The problem is people criticize it because OMG 200HP SO SLOW xD when they don't realize it wasn't made for boyracers.

Clearly retarded. It looks great in person. Although not as good as the first-gen.
>>
>>16647557

The new one they upgraded with unnecessary bullshit. They say it drives better, but it looks worse and has lower top speed.

The earlier models have more of a 90's vintage touches and are very comfy, but the newer models removed that and added buttons and displays, ugh.

I want a smaller sporty car but I'm never going to race, never going to touch a track. It'll be a commuter, errand runner, and vacationer. If I have to use it everyday I want it to be fun but I'm not an enthusiast.

How is the 86/FRS/BRZ vs something like the Accord Coupe V6, G37x, or Genesis Coupe?

You have to sit in those cars. You day you want something smaller, but the accord, genesis, and Infiniti are not small like the 86 is. To be honest, the 86 is probably not the right car for you.

>>
>>16648164
DO IT. It's brilliant. The trans is nearly bulletproof and with a few boltons, you can get an extra 60-80whp. A solid mid 300whp out of a lightweight sports coupe for 18 grand. Can't go wrong.

>>

Have fun getting pulled over, Speedy.
>>
>>16648227
Obnoxious mopar colors are a cop magnet. Yellow, orange, lime green, bright purple, racing liveries. Plasti-dipped wheels and giant Monster Energy stickers are a cop magnet. A park bench bolted to the trunk is a cop magnet. No cop specifically targets a blue car, blue is a common color. If anything he'd target it because it's a 370z and anon farted past the cop 30 over the limit at 6,000 RPM.

I was told a red car would get cop attention/higher insurance premiums for my entire life and then I bought one and I've never been pulled over once and my insurance didn't even ask what color it was.

lol wat

They aren't gonna pull over red corvettes every time they see em. You have to be speeding first but if you are, you are guaranteed a ticket. Chances are you'll be clocked at high speeds even before cops hear your exhaust or make your specific vehicle. A red car obviously stands out more but it's not like a cop is gonna be "oh here comes a fast, lowered, and loud moving black dot, I'm gonna let him go because he isn't red."

This. Personally I DGAF about drag racing, what I love is hitting up the back roads through the forests. That's where the 86 shines, so I am stoked as fuck about it, 3 years on and I still love it.
>>
>>16649040

It's a track car that emphasizes driving technique on a balanced chassis, that can corner with throttle input, and teaches you how to be more efficient and smooth through corners as a driver so that when it's all paid off, and you trade it in on the new Supra, you can drive it like a sports car is supposed to be driven, with out driving like a ricer fag in a Fiesta ST weaving in and out of traffic.

A manual cayman comes at 65k with a 300hp turbo flat 4
>>
>>16649138

No, you would learn basically to baby it through a corner then gradually get on the gas power out of it.

Where as if you had proper driving skills, you would be able to understand the limits of the car better and understand how to push it to the limit with out looking like a faggot afraid of the throttle.
>>

>a faggot afraid of the throttle.
that's my learning technique, if you keep learning to step on the throttle around corners you'll do it by accident on other cars by a fatal mistake. Whatever floats you boat I guess. I'm just benchracing since I don't even have a car yet
>>16649180
isn't the mazda 28K and the 86 30k? This is sold as a commuter car while the mazda is a known girl/hobbyist car.The GT86 is sold as a commuter car and its underpowered even for that. If it had FWD or some variation of AWD we'd be in business
>>
>>16649107

This is exactly what I plan on doing when I get one. I'm not a track guy, I don't stoplight drag race, and I don't jerk off about numbers and how the car looks on paper.

I honestly don't know if people are still trolling years later or they actually think that people buying them WAN GO FAST and MUH TRACK TIMES.

Good on Toyobaru for making such a polarizing car that is still talked about and debated so much.
>>
>>16647584
I thought they no longer do homologation in WRC?
>>
>>16649237
>If it had FWD or some variation of AWD we'd be in business
I just want to point this out to the RWD meme dickriders. RWD is only good for high performance sports cars. Taking a car with very little power and giving it RWD not only increases drivetrain hp losses but adds extra weight. If there was a FWD BRZ, it would literally be faster than their current RWD config. Fucking Civics do better from a dig, roll AND on the damn track.

BRZ is worthless. It's a joke in the car community. You can drop 4 grand worth of boltons into it and gain maybe 30whp on a good day.
>>
>>16648000
bahahah the BRZ/FRS/86 is such trash

>>
>>16649212
Looks are subjective, only slightly heavier.
>>16649237
Here it's 39 for the 86, 45 for the Miata.

I drove both, the Miata's feels too soft and not as connected, plus it's boot is too small to fit my groceries in. I haven't used the rear seats often, but I have used them. The 86 was an easy choice. Also cross shopped a WRX and GTI, both faster, but much more boring to drive.
>>
>>16649252
I do enjoy track days, but it's fun. I'm not racing other people so how fast the car is, it's irrelevant, it's how fun it is which is important.

Some are trolling, others are retarded and do believe power is everything, they're the same people that would never appreciate a Lotus.

I have a 17 accord 4 banger and nothing about it is small and sporty. I'm not going to check but the other cars you listed are heavier than the 86 and feel less nimble. On the flip side the v6 cars are going to get off the line and ahead of everyone with a fraction of the throttle you'll use with the brz. toyota has a reputation of putting awd or rwd in DD cars.

That's why toyota is better than honda. Honda makes enthusiast sporty cars in fwd, toyota makes generic ecoboxes in RWD/AWD or slaps a v6 in there.

>>
I just sat in one yesterday at the Cincy Auto Expo. First time I've really gotten to sit up close to it. Few thoughts:
-Not sure what you autists are on about with 175ish horsepower, it said 205 on the one I was looking at. This should be plenty for most things.
-It costs as much as a mid-tier Ford Focus so keep that in mind when looking at what you're running against. It is still a relatively cheap car. Not saying econobox-tier cheap, but 26 k ain't bad, lads.

Things I appreciate:
-The very spacious engine bay. Looks extremely easy to work on and all your fluids are right up and easy to get to.
-The seating position. You're low as hell in this car and it's comfy as fuck.
-The plucky little 2.0 boxer they have in this. Chain driven, great, but as long as it doesn't have the headgasket issues that Subie's 2.5's have always fucking had, should be a great little engine.
-The very simple interior.
-The theoretical rear-seats. Theoretical.
-The totally standard looking double-DIN radio
-Manual many-things.
-The fact that there's a set clock/hour/min buttons on the dash.
-Rear wheel drive
-Positive feeling 6 speed.
-An extant spare tire.

Things I do not necessarily appreciate:
-The not-really-a-dual-exhaust dual exhaust.
-The design-college-student-tier wheels (would change those out first thing)
-Too many 86 badges everywhere. The ones on the front quarters and the rear badging were plenty.
-I liked the round rear tail lights on the older ones.
-Something on the rear quarter panel near the wheels looks too..empty. But not sure how to fix this. Like, too much space.
-Not the biggest fan of the face but eh.
-Reverse lockout

Guys it can't be that bad of a car. I'd take this over a current-gen Miata any day. And probably over the Fiat spider. Dunno, it's not that bad. I thought it was cozy as fuck.

So, uh, that.
>>

I should mention that the Toyota branding is my favorite of the three marques it's been under. Supposedly the new one has better suspension dynamics. Dad was looking it up, he liked it too. I do not like most new cars, and while my little ZX3 hatch is doing fine right now, this is the first time I've actually WANTED a new car in, well since the Focus RS, but I didn't really want anything before that. And this is half the price of a FoRS...FoRS is still tempting though.

try getting a test drive of one, they certainly did something right with it. Also for rims, like you said, change them out instantly, they come with Economic thin tires stock too so might aswell take the big route and change everything at once. Taillights should be interchangeable too
>>
>>16653731
It's 200 at the crank, the 170hp meme is what the car makes to the wheels. Full bolt-ons and tune get the car to around 200 at the wheels so around +30whp. Full bolt-on 86 will keep pace with a stock S2000.

It's the best planted car short of the twice as expensive boxster.
The problem is it makes no power and the suspension is setup more to be fun than quick.

I bet you a billion dollars the reason Subaru isn't actually turboing it is because of a gentleman's agreement with Toyota. The bullshit schlock of
>it was never meant to be a straight line car
>it's supposed to be affordable
Is nonsense. People are waiting for the secondary market to have cheap examples to tune to what they wanted the car to be in the first place. Those are straight lost sales, sales that would have gone to Subaru if they offered the car in a package people wanted, new.

It's no coincidence the Fiesta is outselling both 86's combined. It's more practical to live with and the turbo torque puts a smile on people's faces the way an 86 just can't for novices.

Daily reminder to buy American
>>
I had a 15 brz before my 16 sti and my opinion is,

Looking back it was nothing special. It did corner well and didn't have really any body roll, but my sti takes corners nearly as well with allot more power..

The engine sounded like a tractor literally, where my wrx and now sti despite being boxers don't sound nearly as bad.

The clutch was the worst I've ever had. I took out the spring assist to bring it up higher but it had no feel to it before and still never really figured out a way to get a smooth shift every time, was hit or miss.

The transmission was very grindy going into 2nd when still warming up, as was up to 3rd. Getting on it sounded like a weedwacker.

Interior wasn't really an issue.

Gentlemens agreement on Toyota side since they cant have a flat 4 turbo outshine their(Lexus) new turbo inline 4.

Also dont forget that a turbo BRZ would eat into WRX and STI sales in some fashion, and Subaru cant have a RWD coupe dethrone their first child, ever.

At best we will get a displacement bump like the S2000 did before.

The FRS/BRZ is a good looking.

If you just want to go fast on the bürgerkingring, get the Seat Leon Cupra, it kept the time below 8 minutes and you can have them brand new for just over 70% of the price of an 86. But it's set up on and for the Nürburgring, so it's horrendous anywhere else, except for straight lines.

Has to do with our absurd written off vehicle laws.

If your vehicle is damaged and an insurance company deems your vehicle uneconomical to repair it becomes a statutory write off and can never be registered again even if the damage is ridiculously minimal.

There's a couple of states where it's particularly over the top and you'll get instances of a motorcycle literally having fallen over, smashed a mirror/indicators and scraped a few bodywork panels and it gets written off....and since the owner gets a brand new one from their insurance company, no fucks are given.

Whilst it is overly wasteful, it does mean there's a fucking awesome market for cheap track cars/bikes in Aus.

I went and drove a brz yesterday and I don't see the appeal. It's not particularly fast and I don't see much benefit of it over a wrx. I mean unless you wanna pay for an Rwd 2 door car that is much slower than the wrx comparatively o guess but when I see the car it seems that it doesn't have much performance seeing as its being sold as a sort of performance car. I really don't understand why Subaru/Toyota didn't do more with it in terms of performance. I can't figure out how to justify it outside of it being Rwd 2 door and that's just two features I wasn't really looking for anyway. Its a very bland car with nothing to it and I feel that if I did get it I'd have to dump a lot of money into making it worth using as an actual sports car it's got all the sports features without any of the sports car performance

Sure, but what car matches the driving dynamics of it?

An eco-boost mustang with floppy rubber mounts, soft suspension, and wide gears with upsetting power curves when the turbo spools?

A 1le V6 Camaro with the same mustang chassis problems and a little more cost?

All-wheel drive and front wheel drive cars are automatically out of contention.

So that leaves you with the Fiat MX-5 and what else?

It's sorted out and balanced, giving a complete package that forces you to improve your driving skill to get the most out of it.

Same type of engine, wrx's aren't running 12:5:1 compression and can actually handle enough boost to make alot of power while still on pump gas.

You don't need to get a brz to understand any of those subjects of a car you mentioned before though. It seems you changed the subject by going from "it's a learner car" to "this car doesn't compare to any other see here" which isn't what we were originally talking about

If you don't understand why driving dynamics are important to learn proper technique, then there is no help for you and the reason that Amerifats will always be shit drivers.

Learning on a slop box Mustang will get you completely out of your element when you drive anything with legitimate sporting intentions.

Why? Because you won't understand road feel through the steering wheel. Suspension bound and rebound through a corner, stiff and responsive chassis to inputs.

If you don't understand what cornering and handling and technique mean beyond "apexing" then your opinion is shit on this car.

Go buy a V8 Mustang, enjoy your straight line power and make sure you don't hit anyone because you can't fucking drive.

I'm not even a hp craving madman, I'm just curious why pretty much every FWD car in existence gets hp upgrades all the time while here there's complete stagnation.

It has to be because they fear boipucci racers can't handle fast RWD cars and they apparently know their main audience.

Its one of the largest factors

the BRZ lacks:

Its not sporty in any sense of the word fast. "performance car" is a term I WOULDNT use to describe it
