I am trained in pursuit driving tactics and I’m the top rasekar driver in the entire US. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of drivers across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can beat you in a race in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my P71. Not only am I extensively trained in high speed driving, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the Panther platform and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will expel exhaust all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.

You don't realize how much car shapes have changed until you own a Panther or a B-body. When you pull into a parking spot at the supermarket you'll probably be- excluding fuckhuge SUVs- the longest car there, and then you get out and look to your left and the fenders of the Corolla next to you are halfway up your windshield. The older sedans look even longer than they already are with how tall and bulky everything has gotten.

Grand Marquis owner here. I always wanted a CV, but I could never get over the stigma of:
>donked to hell and back by ghetto rats
>fedorabarge
>always getting death glares from people who think you're a cop
>always getting asked at gas pumps whether you had the chiiip, maaaan, makes it like a race car bruh

Then I found a Grand Marquis, and got the added bonus of it never being driven by some asshole who thought he got himself a 3k Corvette. All the power, wrapped in a somehow even more boring package, with the ability to swap in all the hotter parts from the Marauder and CVPI. Not to mention, it's somehow more useful than a Ranger, at half the cost for a decent one.

I've seen a single Crown Vic with dark green paint, the type you'd expect to see on a park ranger car or something, and it looked surprisingly good. Not even sure where it came from because around here the police cars are black/white, the state troopers are dark blue and the DEC is black.

You can get the stuff from an LX Sport on a Grand Marquis as well, where it's called the Handling and Performance Package (what it was also originally called on the Crown Vic before it became the Sport trim level)- dual exhaust, 3.27 rear gears, etc. IIRC the limited slip (Trac-Lok) differential is still a separate option like it was on the CV LX Sport.

Also, P71s come with 3.27s stock as opposed to the 2.73s in the non-HPP civilian cars, and had an option for the 3.55 rear from the factory which never showed up in non-Interceptors.
>>
>>16651315
>which never showed up in non-Interceptors.
It changed year by year. Sometimes it was 3.27, sometimes it was 3.55, sometimes it changed mid-year, and the sticker on the door jamb isn't always correct anyway so the only real way to tell is jack the car up, crawl underneath and hope the tag is still on the differential.
>>

>>
Anyone who wants a great car that's gonna last a long time. The sound of that 4.6 is just orgasmic. It's a four door SN95 with an extra few pounds
>>
In 99 and 2000, P71's had the 3:55 axle ratio's standard. All other years, P71's had the 3:27's, though the 3:55's were optional. LX Sports/HPP Vic's and Marquis cars had the 3.27's with the open diff. All others had the 2:73s
>>
To be honest they aren't bad cars, even well serviced CVPI's. For a young person or someone with out much money they offer a lot of bang for your buck as the cost to run them is low compared to having to deal with the depreciation of a newish car with a loan.

Parts are cheap so that'a nice. Post 2003's are one of the safest sedans of that time period with an interior that is good for families or road trips.

For a daily driver it offers a lot of flexibility and value. It is totally still a shitbox but it does it'a job of being one exceptionally well.

my truck that i usually daily drive is around 11-12 seconds to 100kmh. 0-60 in 7.2 seconds is definately faster than most cars considering the weight and size of the landbarge in question.

the w463 with the m113 gets to 100kmh in 7.7 seconds. The lx570 is about the same.
>>
>>16647392
Crown Vics around here are usually driven by
1.) Junkies and methheads. The cars are usually is deep disrepair and or rusted to shit. Drive carelessly and erratically.
2.) Wannabe cops. They keep all the original equipment on the cars (except for lightbar) and intentionally try to intimidate people who think they're a real cop and shit like that. Usually have NRA or anti Hillary/Obama bumper stickers.
Kind of a shame that they're almost all owned by idiots, they also tend to ruin the cars even worse than the police departments originally did. Grand Marquis and Town Cars however, are owned by highly intellectual patricians who (usually) take very good care of them.

Anons, do you think we will ever see the return of the traditional American sedan? I really like big, comfy, and torque-y like cars that can cruise but can also be modded to be sleepers as well. Also visibility, trunk space, and cargo space for grown adults is a must.
>>
>>16655294
Unfortunately, no. Everything is going with hard edges, small windows and smaller sizes for muh mpgs. Modding anything these days is just bolt-on parts and new paint and tires. Part of the reason why I love the Panthers so much, is that they're really one of the last cars you can get in and actually work on.
>>
>>16655294
Nope. Not happening.

Trunks are now vertical instead of long and wide as well as deep to mesh with the half-hatchback shit most cars have going on now, and good visibility will never come back due to rollover, impact, and airbag safety standards mandating extra-thick pillars and massive fenders, which the beltline of the car then follows making the windows start at your shoulder and the only way to hang your arm out being if you're triple-jointed and also seven feet tall. Why do you think backup cameras are now required on new cars?

Mnke's an 07, and I ordered many of the parts from ADTR, or through the Facebook parts page. The rest I googled.

Still looked decent though.

Anything you'd do different? No chance you're setting up for a manual swap, or are you leaving the auto in? Have you looked into a larger exhaust pipe, slicked headers, cat delete, etc? Any idea how to kill the O2 sensor for said cat delete?

I'm trying to make my Grand Mark sportier, more in line with what Mercury was supposed to be. I ask a lot of questions because Crownvic.net blows at times.

Rear cats can be gutted with no CEL, as there's no sensor behind them. Remaining sensors could be replaced by those plug-in delete chips or a tune.

There are lots of header options that fit the 4.6, but not necessarily the Panthers, due to placement of the steering linkages in frame. My current plan is high-flow cats (1 per pipe, not 2), decent shorty headers, and a TrickFlow Mustang intake manifold, and maybe the 4th gen Mustang shaker hood kit from American Muscle.

NEVER use a canned SCT tune on a Panther. They fuck up your transmission because they're written for Mustangs. Get a tune from Mo's Speed Shop for an SCT.
>>
>>16657470
Thanks for the help, man. I was looking into Flowmasters from Autozone, but if they don't fit, they don't fit, I guess. Out of curiosity, do the DOHC heads off of the 4.6 from the Mustang bolt onto the Panther 4.6? I read that it's the only real difference between Marauders and any other Panther of the same year.
>>
>>16657512
The engines would fit, but the heads wouldn't swap without at least a new rotating assembly, and probably more. They're basically Lincoln InTech 4v engines before they were improved for the Mach 1 and later the Marauder.
>>
>>16657652
Can the entire engine be swapped, in that case? Or would the linkage fitment issues prevent the other engine from being swapped?

Engine will swap no problem aside from a retune. The 03+ Panthers use the same stuff as Marauders sans the engine and fancy bits. Everything clears.

FUCK CROWN VICS

Me and my dad just bought 2 from a dealer:

2010 P71 w/ 80k
2008 P71 w/110k

2010 left me stranded twice due to no start, shakes on the highway, coolant temp sensor and misfire

2008 trans cable broke first day, window motor broke next day, heater blower motor went out, now the actuator went out

Going to sell the 2010 and put ALL the good parts in the 2008.
>>
>>16657758
>buying beat to shit ex-police cars
What did you expect?

For the one that's shaking and misfiring, check your coil packs. They're known to go bad without throwing a CEL.
>>
>>16657758
>I bought two used P71's and they didn't work right
What a surprise.

>2010
Get your tires re-balanced and find the electrical gremlins.

>2008
swap the parts and move on. Tada.

This is ticky tacky bullshit. When you blow a motor or the transmission grenades, then you can complain.
>>
>>16657780
Deleted the CEL, misfire code hasn't come back after almost 150+ miles.

I expected the P71 to be a decent car of all the hype on the internet. This wasn't our first police cars. I had a 2012 Chevy Caprice PPV bought with 140k, put 30k in it, modified it and beat it to shit and never had 1 issue with the car.

>>16657814
I'm Complaining because we had the cars less than a month and already have so many issues. Haven't even got the plates in the mail yet.
>>
>>16657825
>I expected the P71 to be a decent car of all the hype on the internet.
The Crown Vic is a decent car. A very good car, in fact, if you're looking for a car that is just a car and doesn't try to be anything else.

P71s have almost uniformly had the piss beaten out of them sideways compared to the civilian cars, both by the police who used them for 2 hours of idling followed by twenty minutes of redlining and then back to idling, and whoever bought it afterwards and thought it was a speed machine with the cop motor, cop shocks, leaded gasoline, etc etc. and not a four door, four thousand pound people carrier.

To be fair also, that Caprice is a much newer- and Australian- car. Panthers changed very little mechanically from the start of the last generation in the early 90's to when it ended in 2011.

Seriously though check your coil packs, I had some of the same issues (misfire that wasn't throwing a code consistently, rough idle and the car feeling like it was trying to shake itself apart under power) and it was one of the packs, $50 for an OEM Motorcraft one at Autozone, twenty minutes to change it and you're golden. If you already got a P030X code for a specific cylinder, replace that pack; if you didn't get a specific code, there's ways to check the packs using a multimeter.
>>
>>16657938
Code was for misfire on cylinder 6. I honestly don't want to put anymore money in the car, we've decided to put all of what's good into the 2008 P71 and just keep that car, has better interior, doesn't leave us stranded, nice blue paint.

I really miss my 2012 Caprice though, only parts replaced in the 1yr I had it was belt tensioner and idler. Rest was oil changes and mods. I don't feel confident in beating on the P71, feels like it will break.
>>
>>16657984
Can I buy your 2010 for like, $300 if you don't like it that much? I'll make it work.
>>
>>16657984
That's fair, then. It's usually easier to replace a few mechanical bits than redo your whole interior. Really sounds like you just wound up with some shit cars, though, even a less-than-perfectly-maintained CV will usually last into multiple hundreds of thousands of miles, hence why they're so popular as taxicabs once the police sell them. Only big thing to worry about is the intake manifold cracking which is on pre-2003 cars, and the heater hose at the back of the same manifold (not sure if they fixed that on the post-03 cars).

On the other hand, that interior better be pretty damn good because from the sound of >>16657758 the '08 has all sorts of shit going wrong that will pester you forever while the '10 has a misfire giving it the shakes and occasionally doesn't start- does it turn over and not catch or does it just go dead and stay dead? A bad battery can cause the coil packs to die early, which would lead to three issues fixed at once, and the coolant sensor shouldn't be horrible to replace, IIRC on post-03's it's one little piece that plugs into the top of the intake and pigtails into the wiring harness.

This makes me incredibly sad. Personal feelings aside, do you think President Trump will stay to true to his word and relax the regulations on automobiles so manufacturers will make cars like the Panthers again?

>>
>>16659523
Even if he did, no one would make cars like that because they wouldn't sell anyway. People want "efficient" cars that look cute and have iPhone connectivity and Bluetooth and touch screens and who cares if it's got tiny windows, now they've all got lane-tracking and accident avoidance and etc. because who cares about actually learning to fucking drive?
>>
>>16661528

>>
>>16658037
The car has some weird thing called SERV MODE, red button on dash you press it and can take out your keys and locks the shifter. Last time I had to fuck around with the shifter and key to start it.

I took the insurance off of it and stuffed it in the backyard. Waiting on the title to come in the mail and gonna clean it and put it on CL.

Blue 2008 looks real good just need to figure out the heating issue with it.

Really? Huh, that's surprising.

I mean it's easy enough to swap shit out but that's something I didn't know due to HPP Panthers being unicorns, thank you.
>>
>>16664418
So what I'm guessing from all this is that the majority of the parts I'd want to make a better panther is going to come from a P71, if I wanted to focus on just stock swapover parts first? Meaning stuff like the aluminum driveshaft, the LSD, the transmission, and the sway bars? Anything else I'm missing, besides the token mustang rims with spacers?
>>
>>16664586
transmission in a p71 is mechanically the same as the transmission in any other panther, it's tuned for faster and harder shifts but it's an electronically-controlled automatic

not all P71s have LSDs so crawl under and check before tearing the ass end apart, also don't forget to grab the speedometer gear in the rear so your speedo isn't wrong if you're changing the gear ratio

marauders had bigger sway bars than P71s IIRC but bolt right on in the same place

I know it's a joke but the 4.6 is such a mild bitch compared to a classic V8.

This straight piped 69 or 70 Dodge something came into town one day, my car was like 20 feet away and i could feel that V8 vibrating and it was only idling.
As soon as he gave it gas it was hellaciously loud and all my windows were rolled up as well.
