I've never seen any thread on this before, but what does /o/ think about GM's synchromesh manual transmission fluid?
A Toyota technician recommended me this for my mr2 gearbox and I'm thinking about trying this out and then putting royal purple into my new transmission for my Tercel.

tldr; What tranny fluid do you use, spit or ky jelly?

My Mazda 3 takes GL4/GL5. On the advice of the forums, I used Red Line MT-90. And they are right. My car shifts slick as cowshit now.

I would never use syncromesh.

Redline fluid is great. Don't use GL-5 fluid.

I have never seen a difference between using different formulas of the same shit. If it recommends gear oil, I use the cheapest shit I can find. Some use ATF, others use 'specialty' shit. I've mixed and matched, and other than very minor differences in syncros meshing, never had a difference. No idea what everyone is talking about when they notice a 'world of difference' in shifts between oil types.

The only exception is adding some additive to the oil; that always makes the syncros slip more.

tl;dr just use whatever the manufacturer recommends.

You can use GL-5, just where its recommended.

Most transmissions call for GL-3/4 where most diffs call for GL-5. I haven't experienced it myself, but I heard GL-5 can be corrosive to trans internals or the anti-shock properties can wreak havoc on normal trans operation.

Honda manual trannies used to call for engine oil. Honda used to call for regular 5w30, then they changed it to "Honda/Acura MTF"

Most manual transmissions will get away with GL-4 75w90. Mitsu's retarded and calls for 75w80 GL-3, but kind of shows how different every manufacturer is.
