I've only ever ridden an old KLR 250 (1990s or something).
It runs, but it's rough. Should I spend the money to fix it up, or should I look at getting a new bike?
>>
>>16628896
A cheap 125 will outlive its usefulness in a month and won't sell unless it's a dirtbike and you live in prime dirt country in zip code distance of all the dirt bros

Don't kid yourself. As a non-retarded adult you actually learn very fast, retain that knowledge very well, and could even qualify for moto3 with some seirous practice and good instruction.

Spend your time wisely instead of falling for internet memes like YOU TOO COULD BE THE NEXT CASEY STONER IF YOU TAUGHT YOURSELF TO RIDE A MOTORCYCLE WITH THE AMAZING NINJA 250/GSXR125
>>
>>16628815
>you will drop it

Stop this fear mongering, you want to instill people that motorcycles are heavy and to the people who aren't used to it, it's easy to drop. Not every noob will drop their bike. I was riding for 4 years before my first drop was on my enduro bike a week after I started dirt riding. This is not a special case either.

Small bikes are only linked to success when they're also linked to a rider actually being too young and physically small for anything else

also way overpriced for old tech with poor quality control.

Hey guys im new to the bike scene and im looking for a first bike i know the general consensus is a 250-300 cc bike but i saw a decent 85' 600r for sale at a low price for sale would it be fine to have that as a first? I do have experience on dirtbikes and a 79 yx750 (about 3k on the 750) im open to suggestions
>>
>>16629063
those old 600s aren't anything to fear. you would be fine.

but do be worried about if a part breaks and trying to find a replacement.
>>
>>16629063
heavy, shit brakes and suspension, annoying to work on, uses 16" wheels so good luck finding any decent tires that fit, will be impossible to find parts for, but outside of that, i guess it's ok

Ninja 650.
>>
>>16629067
>>16629063

Seems like the general concensus is its a heavy bike with outdated suspension and braking. Thats cool since I expected that but I do have two other options Id like to ask about. 1. Fix and ride a 1987 Kz 1300 that needs a new seat tires carb and gaskets, Or in the same price range go for a 91 cbr 900 fireblade thats good to go but seems to scare the seller to death
>>
>>16629089
Do you really enjoy fixing up old bikes? Can you afford it?

Most people who ask about old bikes like this are kids who road their grandad's old dirt squirt and want a bike but can't afford a good one and think they could totally wrench because they cleaned a throttle body once

Your opinion, I just read a review against a s1000rr because I was curious after your post and the reviewer said there are pros and cons for both bikes. He never adressed problems like the ones you're talking about or showing in that webm. Apart from being a little bit too heavy.
Not to mention the bmw is like a butt-ugly girl you'd never want to be associated with.

Honda = boring but reliable.
Yamaha is pretty much what Honda used to be - great price/performance + reliability.
That said the Jap bike brands all have a YoY failure rate within a 4% band, so it doesn't really matter.

Harley is hated pretty universally by non-Harley riders. Expensive, heavy, kitschy machines with a higher than normal amount of cunts riding them. Also lifestyle advertising targeted towards boomers.
That said the new Street 500 doesn't seem to be too bad a beginner bike, and some of the gray hair riders on them are total bros.

is 12 months (one year (52 weeks (365 days ( 8,760 hours)))) excessive for a standard RTA payout?

The bike was only worth £550.
I've been on a hire bike since February last year, that alone would have cost at least 10 times that. Not to mention the legal costs of the solicitors who are STILL trying to collect from the third party.

Bloody farce I tell ya.

i used heated grips for a year, and they are great, but they do nothing for the ends of my thumbs or for the fingers covering the levers. i then got handguards to deflect rain/snow/wind, and this really helps significantly as long as you're doing more than ~50kph. below that, snow just falls straight on my fingers anyway. with a decent suit & layered clothing, i am head to foot toasty warm, with the exception of painfully cold finger tips and, after a particularly long ride in wet weather, distractingly cold toes. next winter i'm pretty keen on heated gloves & insoles.
>>
>>16629644
The MSF class I took in Brooklyn had eight Harley street 500s, one Honda Rebel 250, and one V-Star 250.

Shit's tame enough for first timers bro. The thing to look for in a beginner bike is horsepower, not displacement. Anything below 50hp is a fine beginner bike.

Evolution implies change. So they aren't 'the same'. A bastardised UJM and a modern sport bike are pretty different.
>>
>>16630641
That's before we even get into the fact that most modern 'cafe racers' have nothing but a general aesthetic similarity to actual cafe racers built for racing.
>>
>>16630641
Not really.
People modified them to have rear sets (like modern sport bikes) and modified them to have fairings (like modern sport bikes) and modified them to have clipons or low set bars (like modern sport bikes)
Thus companies just startes building bikes with all that stuff from the factories
>>
>>16630522
"Cafe" bikes were originally random standards fitted with clip ons and engine swaps because people couldn't afford sportbikes. Those were cool. Now we have commonly available sportbikes thanks to japan. However, they were never sportbikes. They were mock ups of sportbikes. Modern sportbikes are evolved from the race bikes that cafe bikes wanted to be.

Modern cafe bikes are just really shitty 300c shitbikes from the 80s with clipons because people want to look like they're from the 20s.

Think about why people might not like cafe bikes

M8.
Riding a motorcycle is not just about going in straight lines M8.

Countersteering. Proper brake application. Throttle control. Body positioning and form. Clutch control. Shifting properly in any given situation. Not getting killed by cagers. Just to name a FEW.

Yes go on and let him get on a more expensive to maintain, heavier bike with 2-3 times the power and finicky throttle and brakes to top.

GENIUS.

For a new rider a 300 is PLENTY.
