For the SWB I'm actually putting in an axle and air locker out of a Montero Sport. Might eventually up the gearing and put bigger tires on it but 30"s and the old man emu lift are good for now. I am able to get most places. I take the 2.5 out on longer trips since I can sleep in it.

Ok on the map now.

Spagett!

Yeah obviously I want big ass tires but that's a ways in the future. Plus my SWB is only the 4banger so I want higher gearing and maybe even an engine swap. I've been into fast cars until two years ago when I found out how awesome overlanding was. I have like 5 cars right now and they get expensive fast haha.

Nice. Tailgaiting is really fun with offroaders especially with dual batteries. Weber grill a good choice.
my buddy's CJ-7 has a weber in it, too
What's the front bumper going to look like? Solid or Tube? I did a custom for Taynger and she turned out great. The best part is that I have an easier lift point and I can stand on my vehicle if it's ever in a rut head down. It does consistently look like it has an underbite, though.

It's a really nice little set I got for just under $1000. The bad part of solids is the sheer amount of paint that will go on it in the next few years. I mean, I could just let it slowly rust away, though...

Almost? I a few threads back, an ENGfag north of Indianapolis was going to help me install my dual battery setup by building a fuse / diode / alternator case from simple items from the hobby shoppe. I know the burbfag in Northern Michigan wanted in on this too.

So If you can wait until April or something, I could take a trip down to the Michigan / In border so that we all can work on the dual battery setups.

I think I may drive down to British Colombia this summer so the dual batter setup could end up saving me a lot of money on motels / hotels. 2-3 weeks of oberlanding and offroading. Can't w8!

Tube would be less expensive for sure. The back looks a bit weak so you could get two tubes for the price of one solid.

How are you protecting the surge when you connect and disconnect the axillary batteries? OR are you just buying that $350 set that will be able to accompany 250a of power? Thought, if you're doing two deep cycles, you will probably require the 500a just in case.

Why are you using two deep cycles again?
>>
>>16621893
Wait what are you talking about with the surge? I'm just leaving a single 100amp hour battery plugged into the back. That thing disconnects the circuit when cranking and when the primary battery reaches a certain voltage. They use them in boats.

Even cheaper way would be this. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001FQL43U/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1ZQ97PFFY80S2&coliid=I33M162XKHEWOW
>>
>>16621917
When you're jumping the running battery with the axillary battery, it can generate up to 300A through the wires.
How are you regulating which battery is on / off without spending like $500 on a sensor setup?
>>
>>16621926
I will probably never jump the primary battery and if I do it will be with jumper cables.

Here's info on those.

Because their uses are different. Especially with their discharge and recharge of current over unit time.
Though, the build is normally negligible. It only starts to show itself if you do a lot of quick charging or jumping each other or other high stress work.

Stock 3.55s with 35" tires will kill the transmission... Dumbass
>>
>>16624245
The gears are different after the size increase.
>>
>>16624255
How are the gears different after changing to a bigger tire? He said he added bigger tires, didn't say anything about regearing. IE the transmission will have more stress on it due to the high gearing with the taller tires.
>>
>>16624405
The 2wd versions had 3.12s, I'm sure it can handle it down the highway.
>>
>>16624405
I think he's confusing stock gearing with the gear after tyre increase.

My question is what stock vehicle is 3.55 with 32s. Also, how easy it is to switch in a 6 speed.

Considering hacking up the rack and building a camping shell off it since it's a quick disconnect setup and it's sturdy as hell.
As for the trees, that's just where they were when I got it and haven't bothered with them yet.
Been going through all the mechanical goodies to see how good a candidate it is for a mild built 360 swap first.

I found the original owners maintenance booklet in the cab, he was definitely an autist, he logged the date and mileage of all work done even logged every tank of gas. So I have anal retentive accurate logs up to about 8 years ago.

>I found the original owners maintenance booklet in the cab, he was definitely an autist, he logged the date and mileage of all work done even logged every tank of gas. So I have anal retentive accurate logs up to about 8 years ago.
I-I-I did that to Taynger until she got mugged at knifepoint and they stole only a tyre repair kit that had all my work done to her in the past year... ):

That's really helpful to have, though. One of the good types of autism. Picc of front of trucc pls.

Also consider rotating the mudflaps.

Ram 1500. As for the 6 speed, I'd have to find a donor truck, but as far as mounts and transfer case, it all just bolts up. Can even use a 2wd 6 speed on a 4x4, it just werks.

Just swap columns, interior trim, ecu, pedal box.
Probably can use the auto column and just take off the stick, but ehh.
>>
>>16624547
1500 might have room to put in a gear depending on the year. At least you'll definitely be able to fit in the 6 speed tucked underneath.
I was looking at getting Taynger a 6 speed but I don't think I can fit the extra few inches of length under her belly.

Swap the seat off it too, ofc. Also... yeah the stick.

Depends upon the rig but I've done it solo many times. (XJ w/ 31s & 4" lift)
There's really only 3 tough spots, and I've seen stock rigs nursed down the trail (toward the dunes) but many fail traveling in the opposite direction (attempting to get up the dry falls).
Found a Taco that had somehow got himself high-centered and I had to drag him off.
You're more likely to get stuck in the deep sand descending toward and around the dunes themselves. Without lockers, there are places that you must keep your speed up to keep from sinking and if you stop; you're sunk.

No worries bro! Looks similar until you take a second look.

I've run this route 3x. Like all the trails in and around DV they vary by a lot every year depending upon how much rain and the time of year you're there. The pic from Echo Canyon was over a year ago. I ran it again last Fall and DV had a lot of rain and flash floods. The trail for miles was completely washed away and I was basically traveling up a very recently flooded wash. It would have been impossible for my rig without the new lockers.
You just gotta give it a go, go slow and don't do anything stupid.
I'll be back for a 10 day off-road adventure the first week of April and will post new /ORG/ content!

>parts are not cheap
Unsurprisingly, the newer imported Land Cruisers are almost dirt cheap to repair even in the North American countries. This is since most of the Tay Yoda GX parts fit the Land Cruisers (well not dirt cheap. but dirt cheap considering imports).

I think they're more natural on 35s. 37s just look weird on any innacity road vehicle, desu. Not a bad weird, of course. But above 35s just have a reputation for assaholla drivers in these parts. I can't speak, though. Taynger looks weird with 32s but she gets me through the rocky parts with my clearance and still shreds up snow like nothing.
35s on your blue bae looks more nautral. Especially when you compare it to the modern vehicles like full sized civilian picc-up truccs that have enormous bodies and run stock 28s. Fuck are those hideous.

>heep
>settling

we cant get any of the newer ones here so im jelly

i agree though but 37s just look so cool ;_; if im honest with myself though i dont have a real use for them anyway
tayner looks natural on 32s id say. if you went up more it might get weird though.

wasnt implying itd be settling for you i just meant that it would have been formyself.

the argument could be made you could get a decent 80 for $7500. a wise man once said though, "all 80s cost $12k. if you buy one for $5k it will need $7k in parts, if you buy one for $10k it will need $2k in parts, etc."

Nope. Good guess though. I know Mazourka.
It's at the vast complex at the abandoned Western Talc Mine. Lot's of mines to explore here.
10 miles due East of Tecopa.
For a great loop - take the Old Spanish Trail to Mesquite Valley Road to the mines. (There's also Columbia & Monday Mines nearby.)
Take Smith Talk Road over the pass and then take the trail South of Kingston Peak towared the Shadow Mountains through Kingston Wash through the Valjean Valley. Dumps you out on Hwy 127 South of Dumont Dunes.
So many places to explore . . . so little time . . .

i think the smartest advice is get all of your recovery equipment first and then use the truck as you intend to. the next mod will become apparent.

tires/lift or just tires are going to be the next logical step for most people but tahts not always the case.

I'm in the ass end of nowhere West Virginia. Aside from farm work and driving on county roads that barely meet the definition, when I'm bored I like to head out old logging trails or creek beds.
I have about $1000 each month that I could be throwing away on it without really missing it, desu. So budget can get pretty big when I look at it over the long term.
So recovery equipment into tires, and then get it lifted as I find necessary for the terrain?

if youre going to be piling that much cash into it i hope its a really clean example. make sure all PM is done to it and then yes, start with recovery gear.

you have to plan for the tires though. if you plan to lift it later it might not make sense to upgrade your current tires because you will be able to fit bigger ones down the line if you lift it.

if it were me and i had unlimited money the order would look like this:
-1000% of PM done
-recovery gear
-spares of normal wear parts (driveshaft, u joints, etc.)
-undercoat the bottom (salt in wva and va where i am)
-bed cap/sleeping platform build
-suspension lift/33 inch tires
-roof rack
-sliders
-front bumper/winch
-lockers
-lighting

we are not the same person though so do some research on builds and figure out really what you want out of this truck.

bought a new (lightly used) Jeep last month, took it to the desert to inaugurate it

didn't do any seriously hard trails since I was just getting a feel for the car but I'm happy with my purchase. I had a XJ Cherokee a while ago and it's nice to have a smaller 4x4 again that drives OK on the highway.

You can't in Onterrible but there are a few that people have said in Sask. This is the same with the new Defenders.
Honestly, it may just be worth getting a new GXxxx if you're buying a new LR Defender and importing it... Most people either buy up the FJ80s in circulation or import older 80s and 79s.

Gief year for advice. Otherwise these following is worth sinking in money for these:
>recovery gear
comes with bumper add on sometimes $300-$900
>spares of normal wear parts (driveshaft, u joints, etc.)
pretty good for the ranger. complete rear axle rebuild cost me $450 the other day
>undercoat the bottom (salt in wva and va where i am)
do whatever you want
>bed cap/sleeping platform build
$200-$600. be patient with people selling trucc caps
>suspension lift/33 inch tires
this is probably one of the more difficult ones. the best way for me to find clearance was to just upgrade to 32s that jammed into the wheelwells along with a leveller up front to get 2 inches of body lift and maybe 1 inch of clearance. The newer Rangers have torsions that makes shit difficult but the olders have Is which can be disked or changed out for coils. If you have a post 2002, it could be worth swapping a D44 in the front for under a grand
>roof rack
they never made these since only the exploders had them. personalised roofracks are expensive as shit
>sliders
FX trims had these for regular. mall crawlers tell me i'm a faggot because i need "manlet steps" where realistically these are to protect against rocks.
look at junkyards for older ones
>front bumper/winch
probably the first thing you should do to it along with:
>lighting
fog lights go on your front bumper

Check offroad shoppes. Then go find a fabricator / specific mechanic and ask him to undercut the offroad shoppe since they get them from the same supplier.

>>16628158
Was it 2002? You could be right but I thought 1999-2001s still had the twin I beam IFS setup.

Un-irregardless, if you have torsions, it'll be more difficult to lift than if you don't. You can get 2.5 inches by cranking up the torsion bars and wheel aligning (then leafing the back) but you'll have a significant effect on drive quality. The twin I beams are much easier to work with when lifting.

Also anon: pls report engine along with year because that is also important.

>>
>>16628348
Eh. Cigars are decent investments since most of the time, you can resell them for the price you pay if you buy them online. Especially since ageing them (keeping them in a humidor for more than a year or so) actually increases their value so they grow at like 10% every year. If you have a climate controlled storage facility, they're pretty safe investments.

>>16628402
Those things are meant to handle combat, though. Besides, an old 90s Ranger is probably one of the most fun things you can drive since you don't care much about the looks.

I just realised there are two white rangers here. Which one are you? : >>16628042 >>16627739
