Thinking of getting a 3rd gen Camaro to build. Everyone hates the 305s, and the 350s didn't come with a manual trans, so how hard would it be to swap the 305 for the 350? Would the transmission work for the 350?

A T5 would be adequate. If you can somehow find a toploader or, maybe even a muncie, you should have no problem putting power through those. They are 4 speed however, if that's a problem.

if you drop a 350 in it a T-56 would work well i think. as far as difficulty, idk about doing it all yourself if that's possible but it'll cost a lot

Depending on your goals a 305 can make okay power, heads cam and exhaust should put you well over 300 for a couple G's, any more then that and your gonna need a new trans, diff, etc.

it's literally bolt in. The 350 uses the same mounts and bolts to the same transmissions. The internals is where the differences are.

the N/A limit for a 305 is around 300 hp while keeping it streetable and not changing the bore or stroke.
Why you would throw money at using forced induction on a 305 is beyond me when a DZ302 or a 350 with the same mods will make so much more power.

You need a fox body, OP. Sorry to have to be the one to tell you. If you're trying to rip poorfag 80s ameriskidz you're not going to make it happen in a turd gen. You can get a 350 auto and put a shift kit on it to get maximum torque and do burnouts and shit but if you want a torquey manual cheap get a fox.

There isn't anything 'bad' about the 305 if you accept that they were never meant to be high HP screamers.

Well, I used;

Iron heads cleaned up with 1.94 exhaust valves
Comp XM262 +2 advance
Weiand 144 blower
750 Holley 4150
1.7 ratio Crane Gold roller rockers
7AL digital box

Same parts on a 355 except for a set of Iron Eagle heads made 530HP. If you want high power, can't beat bore diameter. It's hard to get a 3.736 inch bore to work when it is starting to shroud a 1.94 exhaust valve. Great economical engine with reliability but the 305 isn't a powerhouse.

Build a 383SBC or LS3 and fit either with a T-56. This is the only correct way within reasonable budgets.

Do it. Don't bother with old drivetrains. LS and T56 is the way to go for reliable power. 305s are a dead end, t5s won't take the power of a 350, and junkyard 5.3s are a dime a dozen.
