on a side note, does having a prior DUI conviction (and some miscellaneous felony drug chargers) impact my chances of getting a CDL? I am not too worried about it having any effect on employment/hiring cause I plan on just driving for fun but what about the licensing itself?

The dollies on the rear were 6 axles. There were 3 or 4 of those trucks there.

Is that actually even her? There were 3 of them. I'll post em on another board if you really want them.

If it is her, I was pleasantly suprised. You never know what you're gonna get with shit like that. Like a month ago I found out there was an Erin Andrews peephole video and her body was good in that. Sometimes they end up really mediocre even if they look good in clothes.

Hey br/o/s, I'd like to get into Trucking but have no money. Would it be wise to go with a company like Schneider or Swift or something like that? I know people are like "You make 20 cents a mile it's not worth it, they're shit." Right now I make 9 dollars an hour at a factory shit hole, so literally anything is better than that, plus, the 20 cents should only be for the first year, right? Any and all help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Some brogress.

Last night was a solid 6/10 shitshow.

Fuel guy was over two hours late, and subsequently the burners ran out of diesel.

Once refilled, we had to rig out the heater truck in a hurry and zip over to priority heat some water storage tanks for a service rig that was in need.

That completed, repriming the truck once hooked back into the pit took a full hour of fucking around since we had to pull water uphill through the suction hoses. In the end we had to utilize a local vacuum truck to provide some additional suction to fill out our lines enough that our pumps could take over. All of this in -30°C weather, mind.

Worried about potentially losing some drivers, was he?

An HR specialist from my brevious employer called me last week to do an exit interview about my leaving the company, and we ended up talking for a half an hour.

Sounds like they are hemorrhaging guys to the other big service companies that are offering more money and real salaries. She hinted that they were going to try and cobble together some kind of pay guarantee to make it more appealing to work there, but it sounds like the usual bunch of horse apples, excuse my strong language.
>>
>>16623109
I mean they will always find people to train but with summer coming up and a bunch of new dudes who may or may not stay, they're not trying to lose the handful of dudes who show up and don't call them a million times a day with problems.

That's how my job is. The less I see or talk to my boss throughout the week, the better.

>>
>>16623457
With the driver cams, I think the only way I would agree to deal with it is if there was some agreement where they can only watch it if you are involved in an at-fault accident. That's reasonable on both ends.

>>16623443
I think I'm gonna tell him I need a day off for an interview with this company called "Bepis Transport".
>>
>>16623512
the thing is its not transparent. so they can just claim it was an at fault accident and boot you. if they even need a reason

>>16622775
Weird. England pulled the same thing when I quit 9 years ago. Three months into my new job my old dispatcher called and asked when I would be ready for my next load.

There's got to be a reason the shit companies do that.
>>
>$99 for a dot physical
That feels like a lot but I'm the only one here so hopefully it won't be a ridiculous wait
>>
>>16623554
Yeah but beyond that if a company wants you gone, they will find a reason. I have seen it a bunch of times at Pepsi. Guys who are always late or calling off end up getting fired for something really small that wouldn't even get most employees written up.

>>16624026
That sucks. I think the easiest one I ever did was like $30 or $40, went to a chiropractor first thing when they opened, he took my blood pressure and gave me a half-assed vision test and I was gone in 5min.
>>
>>16624152
Yeah it's easily the most I've ever paid but save me from the hours wait at a Concentra. I just wish I was paying more attention to the backsplash as I was pissing in the cup.
>>
Do you guys drink at all when you are out on the road, or would even a couple of beers before bed be enough to get you fired if anyone found out? And what kind of free time do you get in general? On trucking websites I read about people stopping to see tourist sights and shit but I always assumed you would be driving, then sleeping, and then driving and sleeping some more. If there is more to it than that what sorts of things do you do and how do you get the time to do it?
>>
>>16624308
Don't fucking drink. Drunk driving is absolutely retarded and everyone thinks they can drive fine drunk; none of them can, not to mention you're in a giant fucking truck and are probably going to take some people out when you crash.
Yes you'd get fired if anyone found it, while I wouldn't mind a comfy driving beer or two (a little euphoria is fine, buzz isn't), obviously open container laws would fuck you even if you're under the limit.
>>
>>16624330
I didn't mean drinking while actually driving, I meant having a beer or two once your truck is parked and you'll soon be going to bed.
>>
>>16624308
I think the law is you can't drive for 10 hours after drinking any alcohol, and if you blow anything above 0.04, it's bye bye license.
>>
>>16624355
Makes sense.

>>16623891

Someone hit my fucking trailer while I was on hometime. Goddammit, the loves down the road burned down a few months ago and all the dumb dumbs have polluted my comfy, normally empty local gas station. At least it wasn't the truck.
>>
>>16624152
>Guys who are always late or calling off end up getting fired for something really small

Where I work, they can just straight-up fire you for that.
>>
>>16624615
Pepsi has a retarded ass point system. Like you can "No call, no show" for a whole week before you get enough points for them to fire you. The dude who was on my route before me, he would show up between 30min and 2hrs late basically everyday for almost two years before they finally fired him. They didn't even start writing him up until the last few months when they got tired of him showing up at 8am and then it took weeks and weeks for him to actually rack up enough points to get canned.

But if you complain a lot and they just don't like you, one little complaint from a customer will get you fired.
>>
The area I live in has a quarry so it's very commonplace to see trucks hauling huge loads of minerals or gravel or whatever bullshit they haul from a quarry

I have always been amazed by how fucking slow these things are. By the time these trucks are able to get up to speed and have their trailer clear the intersection, the light has already turned red. These faggots literally take 20 seconds+ to move 20 or so feet.

My question is: are they really that slow or are they just pussy footing around? I used to think cargo vans were slow but they aren't, teh drivers are just pussies
>>
>>16624963
It's the 10spd+ manual transmissions. Could be a 13spd or 18spd. With the 10spd, 6th gear is normally good for 20-25mph. Plus big diesel engines don't rev real fast and when you are upshifting, it takes time for the RPMs to drop before you can get it into the next higher gear.
>>
>>16624963
Well, in that 20 seconds they have probably gone through 6-8 gears, it isn't really that similar to a 4-wheeled vehicle at all
>>
>>16622775
Sweet driver cam, now they can perfect that facial expressions software and slow or stop the truck if you looked angry or excited. Guess I won't be training with Swift now better call the recruiter back and tell him to fuck off.
>>
>>16625228
Maybe it works like Gundam's. I guess his does some bullshit like takes a 10sec recording every day or two and they review it to make sure he isn't doing anything wrong.

I would put my 7-11 Quadruple Gulp right in front of the cam. How are you supposed to shitpost while driving? Can you still piss in a bottle with the thing watching?
>>
>>16625295
Some Police departments are receiving body cameras for free and are being charged a data storage fee. Why are trucking companies paying money on storing and sending this much bandwidth. Follow the money see who is paying for this service and what they are doing with hours of footage. It cannot be just for cheaper insurance.
>>
Are you guys that desperate for a min wage job that you agree to be filmed by a inward facing cab camera?
I mean the truck already slows down automatically and beeps at you. Maybe if truckers would stand up and not work for companies with cameras they wouldn't have them. Oh wait then they would just bring in H1b visa imagrants to take all the trucking jobs.
>>
>>16625538
Fucking this. This is probably the main thing keeping me from being a trucker, not the cameras specifically (although I certainly don't like those) but the fact that the drivers will always be the unskilled laborers at the very bottom of the hierarchy in that industry. No room for advancement at all, and they will always be treated like shit by everyone above them (which like I said is literally everyone in that industry)
>>
>>16622433
I know that New Bern is the city in North Carolina where Pepsi was founded. I live about an hour from there
>>
>>16625956
And yet the drivers are the ones actually doing a job. They need to get Jimmy Hoffa on the industry and get their pride back.
>>
>>16625956

Once the ELD mandate hits, all the russians and indians will be fired/ have their companies shut down. Freight prices will go back to 2012 levels because of the lack of drivers. I'm actually kind of excited for it. Even the dry van plebs like me will be pulling in $3-5 dollars a mile. All it takes is giving up any semblence of privacy.
>>
>>16625956
This is pretty much the thing I hate about being a commercial driver in 2017. There are too many shitty drivers willing to take shitty pay and the ones who are any good at it just get screwed over. Ir's to the point where the mega carriers would just keep hiring, training, and firing shit drivers because all of that is still cheaper than paying a handful of good employees what they are worth.

And trucking isn't the only industry where this is true.
>>
>>16625295
Actually, mine doesn't record at random. It's always 'recording' but anything older than 10 seconds is tossed. If the sensors are triggered, it saves the last ten seconds, the next ten seconds, and sends them to the third party that handles the backend for this getup. A cubicle dweller reviews the footage, and checks Skyline's customized "Things Gundam should not be doing" list to see if I've checked off any boxes. If I have, the video gets sent to Skyline with a list of my sins. If not, the whole thing gets tossed and Skyline never even hears about it.

I upset camera-kun about once or twice every couple days, usually taking a quick turn because lolemptytrailer. Hard braking also trips it, as does moving above 75mph for longer than 30 seconds. I thought that would be impossible when governed at 65, but we've gotten Qualcomm messages about drivers doing that repeatedly in the Appalachian mountains.
>>16625333
See above; surprisingly effective solution they've got here. Couldn't really be implemented for police forces though - how would it know when to trigger?

Governors don't govern the forces of gravity when a truck is heading downhill.

>>16626157
With so much anti union and general anti blue collar job sentiment in America over the past ten years or so, I don't think opinions are going to change much in the near future.
>>
>>16627149
I'm aware, I just figured our drivers weren't dumb enough to let the truck just roll with the gravity assist at speeds above 75mph for that long, but then again I'm generally optimistic about people when I really shouldn't be.
>>
>>16617925

Why do you have to ride around in a truck that advertises that the driver is poor? Can't they at least let you pretend you have a good job? Or is it like a humiliation fetish thing?
>>
>>16627149
It's hard for my shitty truck to pick up much speed going downhill because muh 5spd autotragic. It runs at like 2300rpm riding at 65mph, so it just cuts the throttle and pretty much engine brakes. But then again there aren't many steep hills in Florida.

Dude, I drive tankers hauling petroleum products. I get stuck doing gas work from time to time, servicing gas stations from Warren, PA to Syracuse, NY....I'm pushing hard to get my company to put those stickers on our trucks; every fucking time I deliver to stations in Buffalo or Rochester, I get swarms of niggers either trying to sell me dope or dvds, or just asking me for money. I always tell them that we aren't allowed to carry cash, but it would be nice to have one of those stickers to point to, too.

My cdl instructor sent me this pic the other day he got from a friend of his. This is how we haul coal back home in WV. It's a damn shame coal will probably never come back like it was cause I wouldn't mind driving a coal truck.
>>
>>16627191
I'll take the sticker. If the niggers knew how much cash we used to carry around with us on a daily basis, they would be robbing drivers left and right. Before we stopped taking cash a couple years ago, we would have $2000-$4000 cash by the end of the day, especially on the routes in the hood with all the corner stores.

I normally dropped that shit in the safe, but I had a few stops that were real hood and some of the busier ones were normally a $800-$1200 orders. They would pay in small bills and I would walk out with two little brown bags full of bills. Those are the ones where you go put the handtrucks and everything away first and as soon as you get the cash, hop in the truck and gtfo. One of my store would walk out to the truck with me because it was one of those corner shops where 50 nigs would just be hanging outside 24/7.
>>
>>16627333
Yeah, it would just be something nice to point to when I tell them. I always keep my spanner wrench with me at those drops cuz no weapons bullshit, but still...even though most of em' can't read, I'd like to have it.

Literally what is the point of swing out doors of roll up doors exist?
>>
>>16627537
Maybe lighter weight.
Fewer moving parts, so probably less expensive.
Roll up doors also have to be inside the cargo area in order to seal up against the elements, and need space along the ceiling to roll into, which altogether cuts into cargo space. Sometimes that little bit does matter.

Height. Only about 20% of spot market freight allows roll up doors. In a trailer with a 110" interior height a roll up door knocks that down to about 100", so realistically, with forklift mast height, fork thickness, dockplate, and operator error loading anything over 80" tall is unrealistic. Some shippers just refuse them because they don't want to take on the risk of Juan getting excited about the roach coach rolling up to the building and blowing $2000 ripping the roll up door off.

>>
>>16630986
Sometimes people will raise trailers ungodly high so when you go over them, the kingpin on the trailer slides over the top of the whole fifth wheel on the tractor. And it always ends up where if you try to pull forward again so you can lower the trailer to the proper height, the pin catches on the front of the fifth wheel so you can't get out. So either need to raise the trailer high enough that the pin clears the trailer (which rarely works), or some trucks have air bags on the tractor so you can drop the rear a bit which is what I did. Otherwise you might need forklifts or something to lift the trailer slightly. If the trailer is loaded, that can be tricky too.

This is a message for the guy that goes by Truckerfag, or if he isn't here can someone please tell him/let him know?

I haven't been around much any more, not sure if you still have your cat you travel with, the black one with the little white patch on her tummy.
You had said previously that she over-grooms the white area and licks all the white patch away sometimes, I just had my similarly colored black/white cat to the vet and she had a urinary tract infection. The Vet said a sign of UTI could be her over-grooming the white spot on her abdomen, which was a problem I had noticed with her previously. Apparently they over-groom as a coping method for pain in that area. I just wanted to pass that on to you so that your kitty stays healthy.

Hope you both have been doing well.

I been drinking way too much caffeine the past couple months. I gotta chill out. We have this coffee machine at work and shitty lil 12oz cups with no lids. So I can get like 10oz in there without spilling it all. 10oz of regular coffee won't do shit so I use the machine and get 4 espresso shots in there. Drink that quick, then sip on a Diet Coke or Kickstart, then at my first stop most days I get a 20oz or 24oz black coffee and sip on that. And then if I'm crashing in the afternoon, I get a Cuban coffee from somewhere. And then some days if I want to stay up past 7pm I will go to the Dunkin down the street and get a large coffee.

Shit sucks because if I don't have a big coffee in the morning, I can barely move.

Would you guys say that getting a class 3/DZ job would offer more unique opportunities? By that I mean you can be doing different things than hauling freight from Point A to B. In my city alone there are job ads right now for dump truck operators, cement mixers, septic trucks, vacuum trucks, heating oil delivery, etc. The only qualification is a class 3 license. These jobs start at around 25/hr with benefits, 50 hours a week, Monday-Friday.

Seriously tho I can't imagine delivering in the Loop in anything besides a straight truck. The loading docks are always so fucked up so you just gotta find the right combos of one-way streets with no bridges and hope nobody is parked in the way.

>>16635747
Was that with the trailer? I had a Yamaha 3 seater and a Sea Doo 2 seater and iirc dude said the bigger ones are like 400lb and smaller around 300lbs plus another ~300lbs for the trailer. I moved the things around on the trailer and they weren't bad at all.

Idk what the hell that is, but in the US you are much better off getting a Class A which is full semi trucks. Class B is straight trucks. A lot of companies with Class B trucks want you to have a Class A anyway. If you want to be a career bus driver, I guess the B is fine considering it is easier.

A few years ago the house across the street from me had some kind of serious oil leak in it's basement. Every morning at 630 a truck like that would show up to start sucking oil out from under the house. At 7 (the earliest time to legally do so) they would fire that noisy motherfucker up. When it was full another truck would show up and start doing the same thing. When it started getting dark they would call it a night. I was working overnights at the time and had to sleep through this. It went on like that for six months before I moved somewhere else, I don't know how long the job took overall.

Anyway, I was still going to go to school for class 1, but I'm keeping my options open to work that might be a little more interesting and with normal working hours.

The company I drove for that had 389s only bought Cummins, so I guess I got lucky.

My little old 378 had a Cat C12 rated at 390HP. I'd rather have a Cat powerplant any day of the week, but I guess beggars can't be choosers.

All the trucks at the new place except for one are Western Stars with Detroits, the oddball being a Kenworth with a Cummins.

They don't get paid shit in comparison to OTR. Mines are so scattered out that you're usually 3-4 hours on back roads between trips, you get paid per ton so how many loads a day is what you get paid, and the pay is so worthless that the weight you have to haul destroys equipment.

This, pretty much. Most white people are safe in the ghetto because the niggers will assume that you are a cop, social worker, PO, or someone else not worth fucking with. But a black person who goes into a ghetto will become a target, even if he isn't there to cause trouble or do anything illegal.

What kind of schooling do you guys get before heading out on the road? Not trying to be a dick. I get that it's always going to be different once you actually start working, but the training program I am taking is 4 months long with 260 hours spent behind the wheel (most of which is on actual roads), so I'm hoping to know a fair bit by the time I get a job.
