Grey Import oddities thread

Do seppos remember this?

Have any americans put a LS1 in this like it was meant to have?

I heard the engine is a huge turd and you never put the 3800 or LS in it like we did here in aus.

I remember the catera from the late 90s-early 2000s (IT'S THE CADDY THAT ZIGS)
It was a failure because it was a piece of shit. They are impossible to find anywhere because none of them lasted long enough to even bother with a cult following. They are about as rare as old Peugeots in the USA. They remind me of the Jaguar X-Type as far as poorly executed luxury cars go

>Opel Omega is a very mediocre german sedan or practical wagon
>usp is it's the only larger german car that isn't MUH PREMIUM, costs less than a BMW 3 series but is more spacious than a 5.

GM sees this and thinks 'hey, let's sell this thing to americans as a 3 series alternative with Cadillac badges! What could possibly go wrong?' They should have asked Ford, but instead:

>they softened the suspension
>only offered an auto box
>only offered the shitty V6
>also no sports trim (seats, suspension, LSD) until it was too late
>no wagon either
>reinforced the body to pass fed crash regs, car gained almost 200kgs from that
>stupid add campaign because GM thinks it's customers are retarded

Also the average caddy customer from the 90s had probably no concept of what a cambelt is and how it works.

I seriously wonder how it is physically possible to fuck up so hard so often. GM was often very close to do something right but then they fuck up literally every time.

It's like there's someone employed whose only job is to ensure there will be a fuckup.

where these really grey imported into australia? Don't see the point really, just a commo with an inferior engine and the steering wheel on the wrong side

Jesus christ thats HORRID.

In aus we got the following

>Factory LS1
>Factory LSD standard (on V8 and select v6 supercharged)
>Factory Sports Pack
>Factory Manual
>Standard Equiptment that would make a 1997-2002 BMW Blush
>Wagon
>Coupe
>Ute
>AWD (2006+) option
>Body already reinforced from the factory but only weigh around 3700lbs
So many other options and countless factory custom ones its nuts

nah i meant grey import into UK/US but yeah we grey imported them and rebadged them a Holden Commodore

Or HSV for the specialist performance arm that was one of the oldest GM factory tuning houses

such a shame its all gone now i havent been this sad since the Panther Body died

The Cadillac was based on the Omega and built in Germany.

The Omega was introduced in 1994, the Catera and Holden in 97.

>>16617833
Yeah I don't think that term means what you think it does

>Opel spends tons of money to develop new DOHC 24V inline six in the late 80s
>result is a robust, modern and smooth engine with decent amounts of torque
>introduced in 1990 for the Omega 3000, the 500 EVO (DTM homologation model) and Omega Lotus engine were based on this engine as well.
>During the development of the Omega B GM decides to abandon the (still pretty new) inline 6 and use the FWD V6 on the RWD cars as well.
>admittedly, having the inline 6 around only for 1 model and a similar V6 for the FWD cars makes the inline 6 pretty much redundant
But
>th V6 is an unreliably piece of shite
>lacks torque, which makes it thirsty
>regular maintenance is very costly (cambelts, water pump etc)
>exhaust manifolds tend to crack which is an engine out job

Pretty disappointing desu.
The only redeeming quality of the V6 is you can put together a 3.2 V6 and a six speed manual and throw them into any FWD opel from the 90s/early 2000s for little money
