Good news is 5 series depreciates more. For a solid E36 you can buy a solid E39 which is another Universe and much safer.

I cant believe E46 still goes under 20k. Get it while you can even with smg, manual swap can be done under 2k.
Just take a mechanic with you and inspect under the car, almost all of them need subframe reinforcements.
