It seems like I can't find an older vehicle on Craigslist for a decent price without a hysterical amount of miles.
What's your limit when buying a car? 100k? 200k?
When does the amount of miles make a car not worth if even if immaculately kept?
>>16598256
It depends what has been replaced on the vehicle and the maintenance and care the previous owner took.
Generally 250k is the end of drivetrains under normal use.
>looking for older Volvo
>mfw the miles on every single example

>decent price
Under $1k?
Honestly, the miles on the vehicle dont really mean shit. It can have 25k miles and not been maintained at all and be total shit. It can have 250k miles on it and maintained immaculately and will be good as new. Buying used is like playing russian roulette. Find something that suits your needs/wants and be done with it.

I'm not fussed by how far the car has traveled, my wrx has 390k on the body and drivetrain, and an unknown number on the motor, it free spools the little td04 to 20psi and spikes in 4th and 5th to 25 sometimes 30psi and gets hard fuel cut, been driving the poor thing like this for 2 years, intercooler is cable tied to the inlet manifold, red bull can+hose clamps+exhaust glue fixed my exhaust leaks, ks or miles don't mean shit if the car is looked after

I also do oil changes every 3-5k Kms and the oil is always golden, has a massive radiator total coolant capacity is 13.5litres
>>16598256
miles really dont matter
its all about the reliability of the car, how many owners it had(I always buy from the original owner) and how well it has been taken care of
bought a car that was 150k miles from the original owners and I'm at 270k and it runs just fine and has never gave me a problem yet

>changes oil every 3k-5k km
>oil is always golden
You are wasting lots of money but props to you for given a fuck about the internals.

I re use the oil in my corolla hahaha and I change that every 10-15k
Typically 100k is a spot on the odometer where most typical wear and tear parts have been replaced, provided the vehicle had been properly serviced.

I've been looking for a 93-96 F150 with the inline six, but when they do pop up they always have 200k+ on them. I hear that engine is pretty indestructible, but what about the rest of the parts having that many miles?
>>16598491
87-94.5 diesels are more indestructible, but those 300 i6 are awesome too. Miles dont matter nearly as much to the diesels, a moderately well one can go at least 400k but more likely as long as you/they can keep it running
I have a 7.3 IDI turbo. Is naise
>>16598491
The rubber mounts and bushings but after that many miles most car needs them regular fluid changes and save for rebuilds of parts or buy new/rebuilt parts as spares, can never have to many spares
>>16598288
But they last
t. 175,000 mile volvo, still on original clutch/gearbox

>>16598520
Do you think a pickup like that is worth purchasing at 200k+?
>>16598546
Is 175k supposed to be a long time? Lol I thought 300k was more like a long time. I've never been involved with cars that don't make it to 300k without needing anything rebuilt
Drive it to the moon, and then try your best to make it back round trip. And, if it still hasn't gave you trouble, just wait.
>>16598394
Better than never obviously
>>16598256
It depends on the car and manufacture.
Japanese >100k and the car will last you ten years easy.
American > 50-100K It'll have occasional issues but should be ok if taken care of.
German > 0-50K This is an odd area where some German cars are fantastic while others are shit.
British > Ha no, I don't need a problem.
Korean > No.

I have 273K on my Explorer.
I paid it off long long ago and I would never get what I want for it so I'm keeping it until I either replace the engine or an Asian lady rear ends it at a stop light.
