Nah, I'll just get rid of this fucking thing and be done with it.

Fuck the dealer extra hard though. Wouldn't buy the bike but said 'If you find someone interested in it, we'll finance it for you!' like the greedy jews are doing me a solid by making money off my product without actually selling it in any way.

"Now, Anon, we know you are offering us a helluva deal on that ride and we stand nothing but profit for selling it on the cheap because it is new enough to still qualify for financing for over a year, but we just don't want to have to actually pay for anything despite easily making double or at the bare minimum 1.5 times our money back in less than a months time. But hey, we will gladly fuck some other son-of-bitch out of extra cash for a dirty cheap purchase and put a hugely unnecessary middle man in between you and them for extra cash at no risk to us but more money for us for fuck all reason. We will do this as a favor to you!'

>Grow up hearing the future of cars is electric.
>Grow up hearing the future of cars is biofuels.
>Grow up hearing the future of cars is hybrid.
>Grow up hearing the future of cars is hydrogen.
>we are now back to electric.
Yeah sorry, am just a weeee bit jaded with anything claiming to be the future. Especially when whatever it is claims it will topple big oil yet drilling and fracking are ramping up in my area of the country.

I'll start giving a damn when electric motorcycles have at least a 150mi range at 75mph, cost no more than 125% than a comparable gasoline bike, and their charging stations are about a 1/3 as common as gas stations in areas that aren't hippy containment zones.

tl:dr : when they become fucking relevant.

>>

I'm the turn of the 20th century, no one was certain what the future fuel was going to be and everyone was vying for market share.

It's going to be a bit like that now
>>
>>16591704
The problem with electric bikes is that battery technology is old and dated. Look at electric cars like Tesla, they are big, bulky, and heavy as fuck. Reasonable ranges on bikes just aren't possible because of battery size and weight.

If battery technology actually goes anywhere in the next few decades then electric bikes will be much more viable, until that happens, forget about it.

>>16591711

To be fair, you don't need as much battery to get a comparable ride out of a bike because it is lighter, has a smaller engine, and doesn't require as much power. Which is why the limited range they are getting out of them is so damning really.

No one gives a fuck. The number of bikes on the road vs the number of cars means that any money/time/resources spend making bikes cleaner is wasted in the view that it would be much better spent regulating cars. Then, looking at cars, the amount of pollution from oceanic shipping shits all over any attempts to cut global pollution via regulating road traffic.

You want to save the earth? Generate cleaner electricity for the national grids and clean up cargo ships.

Now get fucked greeny.
>>
>>16591737

The worst gasoline powered bike still pollutes less than the cleanest gasoline powered car.

They have terrible emissions FOR THEIR SIZE, but still beat the brains out of cars for their cleanliness. They also have less physical space, use less rubber for tires, use less oil for routine engine running and oil changes, and just all around a greener option in general for 1 person transport.

How sketchy is this dbt? Particularly the comment about the "lost key". Please and thanks.

"1994 suzuki katana runs great and can be ridden straight home. The engine is really stong and never let me down and the body is clean too. Only thing it needs is a headlight from amazon for $19 and i can order it for u if the cash is paid upfront.

Bought a new gsxr 1000 and so planned to let it got. Just spent $400 for the service and changed tires.

Less price because i lost the key but my mechanic hotwired the bike to start it up. U can probably get a key made for like $30- $60.

My loss ur gain.
I would prefer someone who can come down and test ride the bike instead of asking a bunch of questions through email.
If the ad is up then the bike is still available."

the water cooled ones are a bit better

as for fragile it's just that most I have encountered have poor balance for the rpm they run at

balancing an engine does give the crank more inertia making it slower to speed up or slow down
and an unbalanced engine is only bad within a given range .eg it can smooth out if you go above or below
also something about the gas flow of two stroke means the torque comes in up high (I'm not sure of the reason for this)

Battery technology isn't really "old and dated" as much as it is maxed out. I work in the lithium-ion battery manufacturing industry so I have a pretty good perspective on how these things work.

To put it in easier terms, one of the most common lithium-ion cells used today is known as the 18650. It's used in flashlights, e-cigarettes, vaporizers, and so on. Historically it has also and is continuing to be used in battery packs for power tools and notebook computers. It's one of the most developed lithium-ion cell formats on the planet. Even after all this research and development, we are more or less stuck to a maximum capacity of 3600mAh at this particular cell format which is pretty much as dense as we can make it.

When scaled, all of Tesla's research and development pretty much pushed this from 3600mAh to 3900mAh. So yes, it was an improvement, but it was incredibly minuscule and actually required the use of another cell entirely. Tesla will make their money from streamlining and reducing costs of the lithium-ion cell manufacturing process. There will never be any drastic improvements in the charging/capacity/run times of Tesla with these lithium-ion cells. We have probably achieved 95% of what is scientifically known and possible with these lithium-ion cells.
>>
>>16592610
That it works pretty much. Make sure that the seller hasn't warmed it up before you get there, ask to specifically see the cold start. Touch the engine before, if it's hot or pretty warm, ask why he did that and try to get him to knock the price down "because it could have some cold starting issues that he's not letting you see or know about"

thats nice to hear.
i also barely ride anymore, since i moved away from Austria for the purpose of my training. bought a Mercedes for the long drives, pic related, does really good job until now and it was dirt cheap.

its a little different in europe, its a full time thing for 1.5-2 years, atm we do ATPL theory at flight school about 12 hours a day studying theory or writing exams, and have mandatory classes of which were not allowed to miss a single one. the whole thing is divided into a few segments, theory, VFR flying, theory again, then IFR flying and after that the MCC in a full flight sim. i had to do a few entry tests to get in but until now it really paied off.
i still have the Honda, but can't really ride it since im at home only about once in 2 months.

No I haven't seen that, I'll watch it when get back to my laptop, I'm on my phone now. That program sounds pretty serious, is it paid training? I don't see how you'd have time to work otherwise.

I'm not working for NASA as a government employee, I still am contracting but it is not a full time thing. I'm fully self employed but working under direction on my contract work with NASA. Most of my work is outside of that industry at the moment, I am mainly going to be working on some industrial turbine projects this year.

It is. i had a little inheritance fortunately and before i started, i made a nice sum with cabbing 70 hours a week nightshift. but i couldnt afford it if my mom wouldnt have helped me financially.
theres no way of working while doing it, we dont even have weekends since many of our instructors are either employed airline pilots/engineers or retired military pilots.

My fingers are almost fully numb from cold before I feel any discomfort so much as starting anywhere else on my body, and that's in jeans and shirt+jacket. My functional limit is about 40F; anything below that and my hands give out before I get any appreciable time in (about 30min and they're hurting on the way to numb) but step it up to 50F and I could ride all day in actual comfort.

Can anyone help diagnose whats wrong with my motorcycle?

I drove it to work the other day and when I left, it wouldn't start up. It was turning really slowly, which usually is an indicator that the battery is low (it gets pretty cold where I live, this part has happened a couple times). My coworker jumped my motorcycle with their truck. I've done this a few times too, but with my car, and it always works out fine. The jump didn't do anything, though. The bike wouldn't start up and just kept turning over more and more slowly until it stopped altogether. I dragged the bike home and have had it sitting at my house for a few days until I could get a chance to look at it.

I just tried starting it up again. At first, when I clicked the start button, it would only make a single click sound by the battery. I looked away for a minute, and when I came back, the lights were all off and now the motorcycle doesn't make any noise at all when I try to start it.

I'm guessing the battery is just fucked, but is it possible it's something else?
>>
>>16595298
Take the battery down and get it tested at an auto parts store. If it's bad buy a new one.
>>
>>16595298
Hopefully the truck wasn't running when you tried to jump it?

>>16595316
No it wasn't. At least I told them not to turn it on, so hopefully they didn't turn on the battery without me noticing. What could've happened if they did?
>>
>>16595327
No, they should test it and charge it for free at most major parts stores.

this is my first winter with baiku and i fucking hate it. I'm constantly checking the weather forecast for warm/dry enough to ride even for a little bit. So far I've only gotten 2 short rides that were ok. I've tried forcing it on other occasions but damp/cold nogrip is hopeless.

I get depressed just seeing these threads on /o/
>>
>>16595327
>What could've happened if they did?
Nothing, that guy's an idiot.

all turning the car on would do is change the battery output voltage from 12 volts to ~13.4 volts charging voltage, same voltage your bike battery would be at when being charged from the stator.

>>

The charging circuit on the car/truck will fry the voltage regulator on the bike. Jump from a non running car only.
>>
>>16595355
This is wrong.
Alternator voltage for a car will be approximately the same as the stator voltage from a running bike.

Unless you think a bikes stator will also fry it's own voltage regulator...

If I have the motorcycle battery hooked up to a car battery, even if the battery is fucked and won't hold a charge, shouldn't the motorcycle still turn on, as long as it's hooked up to the car? Or do I just not understand how batteries work?
>>
>>16595364

Nobike spotted.

This is literally the first thing any bike tech will tell you about jump starting a motorcycle off of a car.

Why don't you go look up the amperage on an average auto charging system, and then look at what the average shit bike puts out in amperage. Then I won't have to tell everyone how fucking stupid you are.

>no citations for his bullshit claims

>>16595391
You may have blown the main fuse, which helps protect the wiring on the bike if the battery fails. If the main fuse is gone, nothing will work.

13.4 volts from a running car will not burn out a voltage regulator you uneducated pile of shit.

>>16595395

This other retard has no idea how amperage works, thinks that anything producing 12 volts will start the bike and not harm anything. He's wrong, or trying to troll. Google "Can I jumpstart my motorcycle off a car" and every post will tell you to NOT turn the car on if you attempt it.

If the lights turn on the fuse should be good, the battery is probably just sulfated or damaged to the point where it won't take a charge.

How old is the battery?

I'm not sure exactly how old. It's a 2007 and I don't think the battery has ever been replaced. It has been losing it's charge kind of often lately but it's also been around 0 degrees and snowing a lot lately, so I just figured that was why it wasn't doing well. Although that might be what fucked it

There's no way you've gotten 10 years out of a MC battery, unless it was touched by God they're usually good for about 5 years, anything after that is a bonus. Replace it and it should run fine.

Nah, you're just a dumb kid and we forgive you for it. I'm an engineering consultant. I spend a majority of my day in an office (my home office) but I regularly work in the field and go to other offices. My job includes design work, testing (destructive and non), assessing locations for specific needs in regards to what is being designed, and working with technicians to ensure that my designs and locations are maintenance and repair friendly.

Keep thinking that all office jobs are office-space tier though. You'll learn eventually.

>amperage
literally not relevant. You connect the jumper cables to the car battery which is already regulated in voltage. The amperage of the alternator doesn't force that much current through the bike,

Battery isn't charging so I think my bike fried another stator. Dammit I don't know why this is happening.
>>
Alright dickheads, I made a new thread to move from tonight into tomorrow.

>>16595628
>>
>>16595481
>This other retard has no idea how amperage works
You have no idea how amperage works either.

In order for current to flow there has to be somewhere for it to flow. A battery or a car charging system will not push maximum amperage regardless of what kind of circuit it's hooked up to.

In the case of a high amp car battery and a low amp motorcycle battery the lower amp battery acts as a resistor for the circuit.

The reason some say not to hook a running car to a motorcycle battery is that AC noise getting past the diodes in a low quality alternator can exceed the design ampherage of the stator or voltage regulator and burn them out.

On a decent auto charging system this isn't an issue. and Modern bikes aren't really sensitive to this.

tl;dr this has nothing to do with amperage and you have no idea how electricity works.
>>
>>16595617
It literally is. Why do you think everything is fused to a particular amperage?
>>
>>16595642
What the fuck ever. We can agree to disagree. You keep doing it your way, and I'll keep doing it mine.

Good luck man. Keep it up, you certainly earned that opportunity. I tried to watch your video but it is blocked by SME on copyright grounds, I'll have to figure out how to bypass that and report back.

As for working on turbines, it's alright. It isn't flying. None of these are the turbines you're familiar with, they are in pumps, power plants and chemical/petroleum processing equipment. I'm doing this based on my experience with turbopumps. I'd rather be flying.
