I just replaced my old fuel door since it was broken on my 2001 Mitsubishi Galant, however the new one didnt come witht he spring already on it, so i'm trying to get it on correctly
Pic related is how i currently have it put together, but when i go to close it in this config, it stays open by around an inch
How am I suppose to put this spring in so that the door will be closed flush to the car?

and a second image of it closed from the side
unrelated image bump
one final bump to see if we have any of this generation galant owners

Is this an oem part?

both claim to be OEM, the spring came in the OEM baggie with the logo and part number, and the door has the correct part numbers on them.
I'm wondering if i'm just putting it on the door wrong but i cant find any guides or images of any help

My sister drives an 01 Galant, she works late tonight, if thread is still alive I can take pics when she gets home

that'd be super helpful, especially if its an ES.
if you can get similar angles to what i posted in the OP that'd be perfect.
Bumping to keep ur thread alive

It's a GTZ and I'm too lazy to take it off in the middle of the night to get great pictures, but...

i see exactly what my issue is now, it SHOULD be in the second groove but my weak ass can only get it in the first groove. Thank you so much.
