Are these battery starters worth a dime?
>>
You shouldn't really ever need one if you don't destroy your battery like most people manage to do. They work though.
>>
If there's anyone that need a Genius Boost it's you.
>>
>>16583098
They can come in handy, but you'll use it like 1 time in 5 years
>>

how so?

>>16583238
>that aggression for no reason
I come from /out/, cut me some slack

thx
>>

I have this exact one and it's really useful.
You can jump your car and then charge it via usb while you drive!
>>
>>16583098
They are very handy to have. I love mine. Different brand though.
>>
>>16583393

>how so?

Not leaving on your lights repeadedly.
Not putting off getting your failing alternator replaced
If your battery is at the point of needing a boost constantly then the battery is fucked. Continuing to use it will just put more stress on the alternator. And the cycle repeats.
>>
They're good for cars that are driven infrequently.

If they help prolong the life of a battery for a year or two then the charger pays for itself.

Also it's not super-expensive. I bought the G3500 from amazon for $60, that's not much more than the chargers that sears sells.
>>
>>16583271
This. Unless you are frequently going to be somewhere without other cars around, you may as well just get jumper cables.
>>
>>16583558
my dad has an open top kit car that isn't used for most of the year because we live in the North West of England, so he just takes the battery out at the end of the summer and trickle charges it every so often

>get one that works as a usb charging device
>so u can tweet in the woods n shit
>bonus points for /out/: get one that's shaped like a hammer to break your windows if you drive into a body of water

I prefer jump packs.

I had 2 of those little ones break after only using them 4-10 times each.

I've used this jump pack about 60 times so far and never had an issue.

It very rarely needs to be charged, even after 3 or 4 V8 jumps in a day. But I still charge it once a month like they suggest

Plus it has an air compressor, pretty bright LED light, cigarette lighter and USB charger.

I think it was about 180 dollars. I can't remember.

a battery tender will keep a battery charged when a vehicle isn't being used

OP is asking about an emergency battery jumper, which is good to have in case you or your vehicle have a brain fart and leave something on that drains the battery
>>
>>16583715
that's the same thing in a bigger case with a compressor
>>
The biggest issue is the fact that most use Li-ion batteries and if you don't drain and charge them enough they go to shit.

Plus they get HOT when actually jumping something.
>>
>>16583753
And a cigarette lighter.

No seriously, I jump cars pretty often and those small chargers break constantly. One even started smoking.

I bought two in less then a month.

Pretty sure China makes about 99% of those pieces of shit
>>
>>16583715
>I had 2 of those little ones break after only using them 4-10 times each.

that's about 3-10 more times than most people will use them
>>
We have one at the garage to Jumpstart cars here in Toronto. I myself gave used it half a dozen times with no problems but the biggest engine was only 3.0 L.
>>
They get the job done, although its cheaper and healthier for the battery to properly maintain it

Jump packs typically have a sealed battery inside similar to those in your uninterruptible power supplies. They usually have a tire inflator, light, usb power port, and 12volt accessory power port. At usa warehouse shopping clubs, they typically run $60 to $70 each. And they do come with those big 12 jumper clamps to connect to a car battery so that you can start your car.

Don't pay more than $70 because it is basically just one of those sealed lead acid batteries. China makes them, even the so-called made in usa one from minnesota. That company is a front for a chinese company that supplies all the parts.

I used to carry one but never have need to use it for my own car ever. It was always used for other people's cars because I don't like them connecting jumper cables to my own car after a near accident. The person took the clamps off his car and almost touched them together while it was still connected to my car. I stopped him just before he did it. DUMB FUCKER almost wrecked my car power system. There is no fuse at that point. So boom.

That experience left me irritated so after the jumper pack wore out as those charges really were too much for the small sealed battery, I never bought another one. I have roadside service thru the car's own warranty, roadside service thru the insurance, and roadside service thru my AAA. A jumper pack would be a fourth version of all that.
