Is /hou/ really dead? I feel /hou/ has reached an impasse. We're not entirely sure what's going to happen next. It's been one year, 7 (major) meets, with the last one equaling the peak in attendance.

The question now is what the next step is. All we really know at this point is that the Texas meet takes place this month. Long-term goals, short-term goals. Who knows. Now's the time to speak. Shitposters welcome.

Here's the problem with /o/ meets.

You can only drive around pointlessly with a group of crazy people so long before you get pulled over, bored, or the car dies and you dont have the money to fix is because lol /o/ is poor.

Its why the /ovg/ works so well. Its almost more like a sport you can always get better at, you cant get in trouble for it, and it realistically, doesn't cost tons of money.

That said. Thats why i always like going to AutoX or gokarts with actual timing. It something you can always do and get better at and have fun doing without just driving 3 hours aimlessly for no reason.

Im gonna level with you. The cops there dont actually have the power to do anything. Most of them are from the village and they dont have jurisdiction in memorial. Its a very fine line between who can do what.

I did see the chopper. I actually got to drive the green McLaren 650s that the dealer brought and let people sit in. That was pretty dam fun. Not my cup of tea though. If i ever get the chance to again, im buying a 512TR like i should have done when they where 50k.

Forget the clutch. The throttle was a bitch. you would spin tires if you where letting off the clutch and trying not to stall it. No one ever told me that the car's computer has an auto stall/get going system so that you never have to give it gas to engage the clutch.

It was a car that rumbled around you, you could feel it working as you drove, and if you took your time and showed it a bit of care, it would give you a load of feedback to drive even better with. I probably put a total of 28 miles onto that red one i pictured. Its not a whole lot but man, was it fun.

Most memorable car would have had to be this Morgan Aero super sports this old Italian guy drove. Not only was it just a weird car with a BMW engine, but he dropped it off one day in a moment i wont forget for a while. This old italian dude was listening to dancing queen on full blast and grooving along to it in the parking lot before getting out of the car. I swear he was singing along too.

working with exotic cars has really made me realize how much i love my s2000. Most of those cars sit in a garage or are in for service every 25k miles or have some problem that comes up because of how high strung they are, often needing at least 5 grand or more in repairs for basic things.

My s2k, with the exception of one time where it went LOL i wana throw a rod, has never failed to start, never had any major problem that wasnt my fault, and i can actually take it and drive it every day without fear. I have taken that car around COTA, MSR, MSRC, and a few other little tracks around texas as well as lime creek multiple times in ausitn and other back trails like the /o/ meet.

I used to really really want to own an exotic car. Enough that i bought 2 NSX's and a 355 at one point. I didnt own a single one of them longer than 6 months. My s2k im about to have owned for 5 years now and the biggest thing ive had to do was change the engine.

that all said, MAN id still love to own a 512, even if i didnt get to drive it. There's so much to say about every car ive gotten behind. The only real cars i can say bad things about are porsches sadly (gt3 rs) but even then, they're great. My advice to anyone who likes car is to get a cheap car you love first, then go for the bigger things. You might just find the smaller daily cars are better.

I generally go to every 3rth auto x just so i dont completely waste money on fun.

SCCA has some track days, but if you honestly want to drive on the track, you're better off using a 3rd party thing like the drivers edge or chin motorsports. They're normally cheaper and dont focus so much on class racing. Normally those groups also have 3 or 4 different run sessions between novice, not totally new, okay i think i know what im doing, and just leave me alone, i know what im doing. And i believe most of them also have instructors that will ride with you too.
