We had a wrecker with 1.4 million as of 2013. It was a 98 Peterbilt and was originally owned by a couple who teamed hard and made a fuck ton of money doing it. Sold the truck to us after they redid the engine and transmission even though they didn't need to. I need to check our records, we might have something higher from one of our customers though.

Some guys will do minor repairs in order to limp a truck back to their company yard or a mechanic shop, but lots of drivers don't know the first thing about wrenching on a truck.

Call dispatch, they'll call a mechanic to come out and fix the problem, or tow you to a shop if it can't be fixed roadside. If it can be repaired with basic tools then yeah, fix it yourself. The usual equipment is a set of screwdrivers, wrenches or socket set if you bring your own, hammer, crowbar, 70 foot tire fill hose with glad hand connector to get air from the brakes, and one or two large bottles of every fluid except fuel. The more you can do yourself, the less time you spend waiting on the side of the road.

I do like 1.5k a week in it and it runs like a dream. Saw one on craigslist with over 450k yesterday.
Had like 6 Vortec V8 powered trucks/vans so far and they all have made it over 200k.

One of my fun ones right now is pic related. There is a Papa John's in this plaza so they don't open til 11am which means the area is super busy whenever I'm there. There are these dumpsters that are in the way on the blind side and there are always cars parked in the spots. So I have to hug the curb as close as possible, get the front bumper of my truck within inches of the parked cars, and every time I'm lining up or backing in some cunt in an Audi Q3 or CLA250 comes up right behind my trailer and I have to sit there and wait for them to move.

Those Dollar dedicateds are rough sometimes. I hate driving in the city but at the same being in the city is nice. When I was OTR, it's just truck stop to truck stop, shipper to receiver. But with these Dollar accounts, I shut down at 8 or 9 pm, and I'm within walking distance of any number of restaurants and stores, usually near a Wal-Mart at least once a week, too. It's so nice to be able to just do grocery shopping more than once every 24 days.
That being said, I'll probably quit around April because I can't imagine unloading 4000 boxes a day in the Texas summer.

There are so many wierd little things with the trucks and vans in our fleet. Lots of the fixes are just nigger rigged. You should see the wiring in some vehicles. This van had 3/4 of a tank when I got in it this morning and now shows 1/4 tank after driving maybe 35mi. And the windows were all fogged up so I had the thing running for close to half an hour with the defrosters on and they were cold so I had to wipe the shit down with a rag. Then as soon as I started driving it, the defrosters got hot within seconds.

"regular engine braking" on a car really only works on a gas engine.
A diesel has no throttle plate, and as such, no restriction on the amount of air passing through the engine. They freewheel, minus the heat loss from compression, and friction. This is the reason the Jacobs brake was invented.

A gas engine, however, regulates it's speed and power output by opening and closing the throttle plate. Close the throttle plate, and the engine will want to slow down in a big hurry because the pistons are sucking a vacuum between them and the throttle. "pumping loss" it's called.

TLDR:
Diesel loses speed from friction and heat loss
Gas loses speed from friction, heat, and pumping loss.

This is the only Lowe's I've seen with tiny tree planters literally everywhere, along with their own tiny street with a tiny roundabout. I barely made it in and out of there, only pulled the trailer over a planter because of the roundabout having a tiny planter in it. I looked at it again on google maps and they have a second entrance at the rear for trucks, and it's basically just the minimum for a couple trucks to dock and then gtfo. Really sucked cause I was stressing about parking.

I was once pulled over just after a closed scale because after the weigh-in-motion, I moved to the middle lane to pass the trucks that weren't able to keep their speed up on the up slope. Did you're school teach specifically mountain driving for 1-2 months to make you actually employable? Did they teach you chaining, winter driving, load securment, sliding axels, sliding 5th wheels, proper double clutching? I tell you, I got hired straight out of school and had 3 other job offers solely because of the school. And the job that I did go to didn't have to train me at all, literally 0 training, didn't have to do any team driving, just drove a day cab with another driver for 3 days and the went straight into regional work following one driver for one week. Ever since then I have been alone. It may be expensive but you get what you pay for
