One of my previous employers issued all their drivers these BlueParrott B250 XT+ headsets, which we got to keep.

They aren't cheap to buy, but they are well worth the money for sound quality and battery charge. Pretty comfortable too, although I personally don't wear mine unless I am actively using it.

It's not impossible. Basically just a heightened sense of cautiousness. Take everything slow, be aware of upcoming turns, pay attention to the signs. If you think you should chain up, chain up. That's the easy part, at least much easier than doing it after you start slipping out.

Just don't be a fucking dumbass. It's not impossible. It's actually really comfy and fun once you get used to it.

2 miles following distance. 15mph max speed. Do NOT use jake break. When you do brake do it lightly and watch that the trailer isn't swinging. Also keep a gun with you in case the pressure gets too much. Its very comforting to know you have an exit.

That's good advice for a newer driver.

The more weight on the drives, the less of a concern it is for the jake to pull the rug out from under you, but until you have a lot more experience under your belt with how a truck is going to react with the weight of a load and the conditions of the road, its probably a better idea to not use it.

I believe it was 15 double stacked, and 3 single.

A lot of reefers going Vancouver-California carry lumber south, then produce going north. Carrying spools of steel wire was the most terrifying. No way to secure them, so if they fall on their side there's no way to stop them rolling. Hit the brakes hard and they'll go out the windshield, along with your head.

These auto daycabs are intersting because you let off the brakes and it jumps up to 10mph without even touching the throttle. It just pulls so hard in every gear whether you give it 20% or 100% since they aren't designed to move such little weight. It would be like dropping an F-250 drivetrain and ECU into a Miata.

Idk it's a 5spd in this thing so it almost drives like a car aside from the gears being low where you are running at 2200rpm at 65mph in 5th. Just the whole thing is meant to be running with 40k instead of whatever this little daycab weighs.

The T800s with the 10spds are pretty fun to bobtail too because you can leave it in like 7th while making a turn and then stay in one gear from 500rpm up to 2000rpm.

Kek. I mean what do you really expect though? They could go all Rolls Royce with their interiors but the truck would cost $800k. I guess it would be nice to get some real hardwoods instead of veneers considering it is the "premium" truck.

I still like muh KWs. Volvos drive nice and all but Kenworths are built well (mostly) and not a bad place to be for a cuckshed. Petes too but I would rather just have a KW instead of going all super trucker.

Only had to shit in the truck one time in my 4 year OTR.

Stopped in Indiana on I-65 overnight and shitty truckstop for a.m. delivery in Chicago. Ate a pickled Tijuana Mamma at said truckstop for dinner because I'm a moron. Woke up late and immediately fall out of bunk into driver's seat and away we go. 1 hour out from the loop get terrible cramps but, I'm never laid so play through the pain. Get onto 294 toll road and morning traffic is at a standstill. Wracked with worst poo pain in my life and have to emergency shit into my little trashcan in sleeper while parked with hazard lights in the middle of morning rush.

At least I had toilet paper to wipe so no pillow case was hurt.

But on the other had it is unfortunate that the corporate world is so fucked up and lots of companies will readily hire some kid with a piece of paper saying you partied for 4 years instead of promoting a loyal employee with years of experience.

Yeah, I have been in oil and gas for ten years now. I am just ending my stint at Calfrac tomorrow and am going to work for a company that runs hot oilers.

I hauled sand for a year after the layoffs hit in early 2015 and I got the axe from the previous service company I worked for. Hauling sand is a good oilfield trucking job. If things don't work out with the hot oiler place I would consider doing it again.

Dallas sucks and the parking is always full and shady as fuck. Houston isn't much better. If you know the industrial areas there is street parking.

Chicago is lots of traffic and can get narrow and tight but isn't too bad. Watch for low bridges.

So far I've always delivered to one of the outlying cities of LA. Traffic is awful but most places are new and reasonably well thought out, wide roads, and you can seemingly park literally any where, shoulders, fast food, random lots, ditches, fields.

Yeah I'm always East of the Mississippi River so the only time I run into coverage issues is in West Virginia really. How do you put up with litter box stank? I can't stand that smell.
>>
>>16553618
I've hit coverage issues in every state so far, usually when I leave the interstate. Makes trucking in state routes and highways pretty dicey, since 2G rarely works.

I clean the litter box daily, sometimes twice, use high quality litter, and burn incense when needed. Sandalwood does the trick.

I recently upgraded my data plan on my personal phone too because I stream a lot of music and radio but now I do that shit on the Pepsi phone and use like no data. AT&T won't let you use the personal hotspot on unlimited data plans tho which is kinda gay so I can't do that on the work phone.

>>16553607
ATT is straight but with newer phones any internet stuff goes to hell without LTE. Even if you go into regular 4G coverage it lags. AT&T keeps setting up these wifi areas in major cities tho which is kinda cool. If I'm right downtown in Fort Lauderdale it hooks up to some AT&T wifi and then other major places like sports arenas will have it.

hey guys, forgive me if this sounds retarded but I figure I would ask anyway.

I am a richfag that struggles with melancholy and enjoys playing a lot of truck sim on the side so I figured it would be kinda fun to maybe buy a truck IRL and do some jobs (maybe some contracted gigs on my own after a while) just for fun while getting paid as a bonus.

is this practical? where would I start?
>>
>>16556796

Assuming this isn't bs, you'd have to get a cdl though a driving school or community college, buy and insure a tractor, then get on with a trucking company as an owner operator to get loads dispatched to you.
>>
>>16556796
You'd be losing money if you just dove headfirst into buying your own truck and trying to figure shit out. If you -really- want to get into driving your own truck, start at a company and put up with the bullshit for at -minimum- one year, for the love of God you should do two years though. If you wanna be a lazy richfag trucker, talk to richfags that collect cars about hauling their cars around to shows on a specialized enclosed car hauler, then you can buy a bus-length truck with a luxury-RV-tier sleeper berth and chill at car shows for days while making some dosh.
>>
>>16556796
It'd be more fun, cheaper, and easier to just DD a custom long nose

He wouldn't be a richfag much longer. Most enclosed haulers carry at least $2.5M cargo policies. That's 25X higher than most door swingers, and is priced accordingly.

In today's antics:
I came into this spot from the upper left path way. Off-screen to the lower right was a large gravel patch to turn around on.
Just left and a bit lower from that red pickup is what appears to be a green dumpster. That's actually the loading dock, right next to that long ramp.
To the right is a railroad junction. There was a train on the rightmost rail actively hooking and moving carts.
I turned around in the aforementioned gravel pit and faced out the road I came in by so I could sight-side back to the dock.
You can see two shadows up and to the right of the pickup truck. One of those is a metal bollard pole protecting a lever for the rail. Had to avoid hitting that on the blind side.
Steer tires dropped off the rail crossing and into the gravel while I was backing, and the truck sunk in a bit. Was fun.
Trainbro was less than happy about the truck fighting with this close-quarters maneuver. Ain't my fault these fucks put a dock right on the railroad crossing.
Didn't hit anything though. gg ez

Cargo Transporters

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on Abilene. I don't mind being out a while so long as I have my dog. Most of these are like 10-14 days out. With Stevens I was out for MONTHS at a time and I got burned out. It was like pulling teeth to get home time because Stevens has nothing in NC. Definitely don't want to repeat that. Any advice or experience with these outfits? What should I do?

Thanks
>>
>>16561252
>37 cpm

Why do you even bother working
>>
>>16561272
With 1 year experience it seems about the average that I can find, maybe a little below. I only made 30 cpm at Stevens.

Most places have me around 36-42 cpm. Drivers that have 3-5+ years seem to be getting high 40's, 47-53 cpm.

Seems to be the standard for company driving. If I'm off, please do tell me a company that is willing to pay me a lot more.
>>
>>16561299
Cant help you too much with that, I'm self employed now but i got 50 cpm last year working for a tiny company (like 5 company trucks and 5 o/o), try to find a small company I guess
>>
>>16561340
I'm more concerned with signing on with a good company. I'd rather get on with decent honest people than have a shittier company with a higher cpm.

I'm sure most smaller companies are good honest people, but they sure as hell aren't advertising online if these guys are actually out there. I simply haven't found them, and it's not for a lack of trying either... I've been scouring the net since 10/2015

>looking for a driving job

Well regardless of whether or not I found the company online or in the newspaper, I'd still come here and ask everyone the same questions. Are they good or bad companies? Anyone have any experience with them? Anyone work for them? Anyone know anyone that works for them? Are they happy working for them? etc.

I mean I'm all for finding the highest cpm I can find, but that wasn't exactly my question. But if you can tell me the name of a good high cpm company, I'll certainly be obliged to check it out.

Problem is, most people that talk shit about cpm and berate people for working for X amount can oddly never provide the name of a better company.

I use a 37yo low loader trailer daily.

It's still good, but it only has a few years left as the stub axles are starting to get a bit of play and they no longer make the axles for it, redoing suspension etc to take new axles isnt worth it. Plus newer trailers are much lighter but I doubt they will last as long.
