My alternator is going out. How long can I rely on jumps from other cars before I need it replaced? I got at least until payday which is Friday.
If it's not charging the battery will immediately start draining as soon as you jump it.

untill your batery goes dead i'd guess

But a jump should last a fifteen to 20 minute drive right?

Just replace the brush pack, it's 12 bucks online or around 40 in store.
It's pretty easy regardless of what Ford you have.

If your battery has enough charge, yes. But keep in mind that if your alternator isn't charging your battery at all it's just going to drain and eventually you'll run dry. A jump from a completely drained battery won't last very long at all unless you sit there for an hour.
If you have a charger, have it charged every day when you get home, probably disconnect the battery Everytime it's not in use.
you are gonna fuck up the electrical charging system. Buy an alternator on credit.

What would fuck up the charging system?

>living paycheck to paycheck
Sucks to suck. Go to a junkyard and get a used one. Surely you're capable enough to swap it yourself.
how do you know its your alternator

>a jump
no - depending on your engine, a fully charged battery will probably run your fuel pump, injectors, and ignition for 30-60 minutes (v8 vs i4) much less if you have additional shit like your headlights on or if you have an electric radiator fan etc. Do it very many times and it could damage your battery too. Just "jumping" it will let it run approximately as long as it was attached to the other car. YMMV - literally

Could I charge it the night before and that do the trick?
>>16544542
Yeah. Before you start your car turn off all electrical loads ie heated seats, radio,ac, map lights

You're going to underpower every electrical system in the car, and destroy the battery dumbass.
Car batteries do not like deep discharges, and they don't like being used to power your car, the alternator is there for a reason. Alternators are like $70, go buy one on a credit card, or get a friend/family member to loan you some cash, if this isn't an option you're obviously some white trash tier fuck or dindu, next option is go to a junkyard.
