What you have to keep in mind is that a manual just wouldn't fit the cars character. I bet you would hate driving a big Jaguar with a stick shift. Like I said with the 6-cylinder models being a chore to drive, the automatic makes it a big Jag. You want to sit back, one hand on the wheel, one on the door and just gently glide around. Maybe not the L specifically, but my dad went through a number of these while I was growing up, and once old enough he let me drive one for a bit. I do a lot of commuting now so I totally understand why he kept buying them. Former RX-8 owner here.

The reliability isn't the absolute worst, but caring for the car isn't cheap. The Series 1 Renesis might need a rebuild at anywhere from 80k to 200k, and it drinks idemitsu and premix like a bitch. However, it's fun as fuck to drive and you can thrash it knowing that the more you push the engine, the more reliable it will be.

You should put aside 2k a year for a RX-8, and that's if you know how to do maintenance yourself. If you don't know how to wrench, stay away. If you do, try to find one that has been cared for by a rotard or someone who knows how to take care if it - if the car is riced or a sweet 16 gift, stay the fuck away.
