Hey DBT fellas,
I have this wild dream about going on a big huge tour around the Americas this summer, probably on an Africa Twin.
It's just hard to find adventure jackets and pants that aren't made in China or Vietnam or some other second rate country. It's a personal bias, I know, but does anyone know of anywhere I can buy some European or American made gear? Even Japanese would be great. I know there's a ton of italian manufacturers for example who say that they're Italian but I don't know which ones actually outsource their labour.

TLDR: where to buy not Chinese gear.

If the DRZ was actually engineered well and made as much power as Yamaha's godbike it would be putting out like 50 horsepower.

But even at 34 horsepower it's motor can't even survive half way to a WRR's first valve check before blowing up.

LOL why do people even buy suzuki's?

I just noticed that the front wheel on my project XS750 is pretty badly misaligned; cambered such that the top of the tire is to the right, by 1-2°.

Is this a big deal? Can I fix it by loosening the axle and triple clamp and messing with it? At what point would I have to replace the front fork?

>wheel visibly misaligned
yeah, that's bad.

when you spin it, does it stay crooked in the same direction or is the wheel itself bent? if your forks are crooked or twisted in the triples, you might be able to straighten it all out by loosening the bolts and leveling/straightening them. otherwise you will have to see if the wheel is out of alignment, you can do this by spinning the wheel and hitting each spoke with a wrench; if some make a different sound, they're too tight/not tight enough.

if you still aren't sure, take it to a frame shop

/dbt/, my uncle called today and asked if I was up for a 10 day trip across the most of the midwest in May. The trip will consist of lots of riding, drinking, eating, and sick hillbilly bantz. We plan on putting my R3 in the bed of his Tacoma, and his VTX 1300 in a tow trailer from Arizona until we hit our family's home town in Kansas, where we park the truck and Trailer at a family member's house and ride out from there. We plan on hitting Missouri, Arkansas, Nebraska, Iowa and Ohio.

Does /dbt/ have any recommendations on what we could do in those states? He wanted to invite me to Sturgis, but since I ride a crotch rocket I would stick out like "a virgin in a Tijuana whore house".

You are correct, also they are high maintenance. It´s a WW2-era bike. On the positive side, they are cheap and parts are cheap and available(if you live in or near Russia).
Personally I would buy a bit older(80´s or early 90´s) BMW and a Ural sidecar for better results. Other solid choices are the older japanese bikes.
Moto Guzzi for extra cool points. I don´t know about the need of maintenance on Guzzis, but they are really simple bikes.

Non-riding clothes(usually jeans and a denim jacket)
Non-riding shoes(usually sneakers)
3x underwear
3x t-shirt
3x pair of socks
Credit card and local money
High coverage insurance(not that expensive for a relatively short period)
Basic tools(depends on the bike)
A fuel filter
Bottle of tyrefix (or a inner tube fix kit, if your bike isn´t tubeless)
(No chaingrease, because my bike is a shaftdrive)
A map of the area(GPS can have connection issues or no powers, maps don´t)
Optional:
Windshield
Tankbag
Tent
Sleeping bag
Air mattress
A paper with the town names in right order with road numbers in the window pocket of the tankbag(so I can follow the right roadsigns from town to town)
Bottle of water
An energy drink

Some high sugar food, like candy

Not these days anymore, the new ones have some quite high quality parts:
Rods, spokes and rims, brakes.
On the old ones to about 1997 tho the rims were even welded with overlap and the usual half time of the engine was about 5-10k km. That's what I call shitty.
On the plus side: Parts are dirt cheap if you order them directly from Russia or Ukraine - a complete set of engine seals including oil seals is about 10€, a new hardy disk 3€.
But yes, most of these are ridden by pretentious faggots who are only attracted to the idea of riding a soviet inspired bike.

FI is less fuss, but less serviceable should you need to remap or repair it.
carbs are 100% serviceable by you but they also need more care and fiddling to work right.
if you like wrenching and tinkering, get a carb. if you want a bike that will likely just work get FI
>>
>>16529271
Carbs are definitely NOT easier than fuel injection. FI requires no maintenance and cannot be fucked with to negatively affect bike performance, however they get brownie points from more experienced riders because they don't have the jolt that FI is known for when you begin to apply throttle. The only other benefit is that you can fix a carburetor yourself if it's not working correctly, fuel injection is much harder to fix (not 100% sure)
>>
Recent DR650 owner anon, was finishing work and turned bike on but forgot to put choke on when hitting ignition however it managed to stay on and not stall. Is my carburetor too rich? I mean my bike gets heated very quickly because of a big bash plate that seems to cook the engine so I figured the carb is too lean. Will be rejetting soon so would like to know whether I should be going more rich/lean once I pull it apart

My carbed bike will start without choke if the weather is good. I only really need the choke when it's cold outside.

check your plug after a ride, should be light brown at the electrode.
the oil cooler and head fins do all the cooling since the case can barely shed anything.
if you havent already, pull your choke circuit out and make sure its not sticking, on those bikes its an enrichment needle, not a butterfly plate. i had mine do the same thing when i got it because it wouldnt seat all the way down

Yes, look at the early R6 and R1s. Even some of the CBRs.

Anyway, the whole FI vs Carburetor thing is largely a meme. Just go with FI.

i dunno, i think i'll just keep the gs500 guys. there's a myriad of diy's so it doesn't hurt to have it around for longer and i need a new truck more. it'd be real nice though.

more importantly i should just focus on riding better before moving on to a higher displacement, i've only started riding since september after all.
>>
>>16529595
Understandable, have you done any upgrades to the GS500?
>>
>>16529254
ZX6R and R6 until 2002 and all ZZR600 models until 2010 or whenever they were discontinued.

does /dbt prefer to lift before or after riding?
>>
>>16529819

The only ZZRs in my area worth looking at are slightly outside my budget and the ones that aren't have something like 50k miles. Any reasone why I should consider that model instead of the FJR which has less than 20k?

I know for a fact most of Europe (particularly those eastern nations) are complete third world tier shit holes. Hungary, czech, romania, slovenia, poland, etc.... is all third world

Prostitutes come from everywhere, m8. However it is a known fact that Czech is pretty famous for porn stars due to having so many gorgeous women desperate for cash.

People in third world countries don't steal GPS's because they have no use for them and no one to sell them to. There is a middle ground between third and first world you know.

No, but if you have pure grain alcohol and tune for it you can run that. Makes OK starting fluid too. Screw pump spray bottle head on vodka bottle and have at it. I've done that and it works.
