It's actually just to protect my radiator, I didn't want to put on a full grill guard because I'm not a believer in raping around the headlights as It will cause more damage to the vehicle in most situations. I have hit many of deer and hogs with my truck since I put it on mostly under 45mph and they all successfully went under the truck.

Plus a stinger is really fun to push over small trees and nudge into the back of your friend's spare tires at red lights.

That's hilarious. Can't say I haven't used my brush guard as a push bumper either.

While I like the added protection of wrap around brush guards as they can protect against light impacts, I can see where they would do a lot of damage in a bad crash, as it flops around if you put a lot of weight on it. In the future I would like one integrated into the bumper, and braced to hell.

I kind of want to get a jeep but everyone tells me they're unreliable. Live in Oregon, family has 100 acres and I want something that can get anywhere. I like land cruisers but jeeps are more affordable. Are they as unreliable as people say?

Get a tj. They are reliable. Just do your maintenance like you are supposed to. The i6 is a great motor, good for many years, the platform stock is a bit uninspiring, but for cheap you can build it for most any need. The problem with most jeeps offroad that have problems is cheap aftermarket parts. If you go for a manual you are in good hands, but if you are getting an auto, get the 3 speed. They are indestructible. The 4 speed has weird quirks and is more likely to die, but it is still pretty reliable. Both transmissions and the i6 are good for 250000 miles before you need to think about rebuilding them. Just keep oil, coolant, and trans fluid checked. As for the axles, the 30 and 35 dana are staples of the jeep and are pretty good. Just keep the tires a realistic size, no 40s, and the axles will hold out fine. All parts are pretty cheap, also you will need to check your tcase fluid. I see more failures from neglect of checking the tcase than anything else.

I feel the same way. While there is stuff out there that is not my cup of tea (e.g. Jeep Renegade), I can respect that people have different needs and different tastes. Hell, I off road with a Subaru Forester. He can't get far, but we still have a good time. Not everyone is blessed with the ability to have multiple vehicles, so sometimes a compromise is in order. IIRC, Toyota gave Tacoma owners with holes in the frame the option of either selling their truck back to Toyota at blue book prices, or getting a frame replaced. Most people took the cash. Hence why old Tacomas are so rare afaik. Tundra owners were offered a frame replacement if they had holes in the frame). Good Tacomas also have a heavier muh Toyota reliability from what I've seen. Yes. Brand new Jeeps have that issue. However, before 2002/2004, Jeeps had a shitload of AMC parts which were durable and most of all reliable. Then after those years, they traded in the AMC rigs for more "fuel efficient" parts and went downhill from there.

This is why most of /ORG/ hates on the ZJs and a lot of post-2004 Wranglers despite their increase in gas mileage over the 2004 ones.

Coolant shan't be an issue since you're in Canada. But bring an OBD reader and a good eye for painted over rust. Otherwise, they're good to go.

However, if you live in the 3D world, I would recommend the following:
1st Generation Ranger if you find one in really good condition and you know what you're doing. Also if insurance won't grill you and you aren't looking to do a lot of highway dribing. Same with second gen, as well but the 4x4 system isn't good for me.

3rd Generation Ranger for reliability and great builds. If you're going to offroad it, make sure to get the 4.0 Cologne V6 otherwise you'll be burning gas on the 3.0 without much power. Those old Mazda transmissions are also more or less bulletproof. Just don't treat it like shit and it'll last.

Be very careful of the late 90s and early 2000s models up to around 2007, 2008. The SOHC on the V6s were known to head failures. This is why I got myself a 2010 because of all the highway driving I do. The 2.3 is good but they don't come in 4x4 so avoid for your porpoises.
The issue with the 2010s is that you'll be hard pressed finding any under $10k that won't need some repairs like mine are (in total still saved me a few grand as long as you know what to look for).
