first car was a 77 Dodge B200 Maxi Van. (Pic related) 360/727
2nd was an 02 Ram 1500, 5.9 magnum
3rd was the glorious land barge of a Caddy
and now as my name suggests I'm buying AdVentura's 1976 Pontiac Ventura, engine swapped in from a 95 caprice highway patrol car

also yeah, I unfortunately sold my DeVille to Tyrone for way less than I paid for it (bought for 1300, sold for 600 due to the frame) and i cringe at the thought of my beautiful baby having big ass rims on her...

my love for cadillacs started when i was a little kid, my grandpa had an 85 sedan brougham in burgundy and it was the best fucking thing. my grandma gave me the original key after he passed away. i'm normally not spiritual, but when i bought my cadillac i thought i could feel him sitting next to me smiling, i fucking regret selling it so much. i thought it wasn't going to make it through the winter with the frame, and i didn't have anywhere to put it. turns out that winter, surprise, never came, and i could have kept it and fixed it.

The 390 and c6 are now in the garage, They're both original to my galaxie. The 250 and c4 are original to my maverick. The 390/c6 I plan on rebuilding for when the current engine in the galaxie bites the dust sometime down the road.

The 250/c4 is for??????

Maybe a go kart?

Maybe a home generator build?

Maybe run it on three cylinders, with the other three supplying an air tank? Sort of like the old timers did with flatheads.

Gimmie ideas.

i think ive finally settled on what im gonna do with this for now. i was on the fence on performance upgrades for this 302 or keeping it bone stock and swapping in a larger CID later on.

shooting for the performance parts for now.

ive a bit more left to work on, but it runs like a dream for the most part

so where should i start - intake/carb, heads, cam?

whats the typical stroking most people do with these or

am i better off just doing the swap and going from there

Both. It's only 250ci, coupled with 8:1 compression and extremely poorly flowing intake ports, an integral cast "log" manifold(which is similarly poorly flowing, along with poor fuel distribution), a 1 bbl carb, extremely poor flowing exhaust ports and exhaust manifold.

Also a retarded to fuck camshaft, literally and figuratively.

oh yeah, and you can't forget the very early, very inefficient, power killing, choked up to all fuck cats down the exhaust stream too.

Also need some head gaskets and CHYNA special head studs. I wouldn't have taken the thing apart if the plug from cyl #1 wasn't totally decimated (broken insulator and center electrode was up against the inner wall of the plug KEK)

I think I might skip out on the cam for now, and maaaybe the springs too, not comfortable with skipping springs though. My plan is to get the motor running, then get it in the car, get it running IN the car then T U R B O.

Once I do all of that I'll do cam and springs then get it tuned. I thought about doing the cam and springs since I tore the motor apart but decided against it because budget.

>>
>>16509162
It effects all Triton engines pretty much.
Some blame the design of the 2 piece plugs and the use of a aluminum cylinder heads. The plugs only use 4 thread which are also made out of a weaker aluminum that is subject to wearing down, resulting in plugs popping out.
Possibly the spark plugs were over-torqued and under-tightened during the manufacturing process. That allows the spark plugs to vibrate and wear down the aluminum threads that are used to hold them in place.

Never happened, just a car chase.

And it's not like the entire first third of Gone in 60 Seconds is about car heists or anything. Nope.

Richard Sarafian's 1971 film "Vanishing Point" is, for starters, a fascinating study of those persons anthropologists sometimes term "marginal men"--individuals caught between two powerful and competing cultures, sharing some important aspects of both but not a true part of either, and, as such, remain tragically confined to an often-painful existential loneliness. Inhabiting a sort of twilight zone between "here" and "there," a sort of peculiar purgatory, these restless specters cannot find any peace or place, so they instead instinctively press madly on to some obscure and unknown destination, the relentless journey itself being the only reason and justification.

Disc jockey Super Soul (Cleavon Little) and delivery driver Kowalski (Barry Newman) are two of these specters, marginal but decent, intelligent men who can't or won't live in burgeoning competing cultures which in reality have offered them very little of worth or substance, despite their own personal sacrifices. Kowalski himself had tried to "fit in" with the Establishment as a soldier and police officer and later, attempted to do the same with the blossoming 1960s counterculture, but soon disappointingly found that they both were ridden with their own various forms of dishonesty and insincerity. Personal honor, self-reliance and genuine respect--Kowalski's stock in trade--were tragically valued very little by either, despite each one's shrill and haughty claims to the contrary.
>>
>>16514579
Moreover, it's no accident Newman's character has a Polish surname; the Poles throughout their history have created a very rich and unique Slavic culture largely based upon just such a "marginality"--being geographically jammed between powerful historic enemies, Germany and Russia, and never being able to fully identify with either one, at often great cost to themselves. It's also no accident Little's character is blind and black, the only one of his kind in a small, all-Caucasian western desert town--his sightlessness enhancing his persuasiveness and his ability to read Kowalski's mind, the radio microphone his voice, his race being the focus of long simmering and later suddenly explosive disdain--all of the characteristics of a far-seeing prophet unjustly (but typically) dishonored in his own land.

The desert environment also plays a key role in cementing the personal relationship between and respective fates of these two men--to paraphrase British novelist J.G. Ballard, prophets throughout our history have emerged from deserts of some sort since deserts have, in a sense, exhausted their own futures (like Kowalski himself had already done) and thus are free of the concepts of time and existence as we have conventionally known them (as Super Soul instinctively knew, thus creating his own psychic link to the doomed driver.) Everything is somehow possible, and yet, somehow nothing is.
>>
>>16514585
Finally, VP is also a "fin de siecle" story, a unique requiem for a quickly dying age- a now all-but-disappeared one of truly open roads, endless speed for the joy of speed's sake, of big, solid no-nonsense muscle cars, of taking radical chances, of living on the edge in a colorful world of endless possibility, seasoned with a large number and wide variety of all sorts of unusual characters, all of which had long made the USA a wonderful place--and sadly is no longer, having been supplanted by today's swarms of sadistic, military-weaponed cop-thugs, obsessive and intrusive safety freaks, soulless toll plazas, smug yuppie SUV drivers, tedious carbon-copy latte towns, and a childish craving for perfect, high-fuel-efficiency safety and security.

I guess Come and See, Wings of Desire, Dead Man's Shoes, Vanilla Sky, Oldboy, and Videodrome are all vastly inferior works of art compared to the Transformers movies, Marvel superhero schlock, and Avatar.

Please try to expand your horizons, shift your perspective.

Sorry bud but the theme of a movie has to be accessible to at least some of the audience. Vanishing Point's theme isn't. Just because you can find some write up online about some contrived bullshit doesn't make it a great movie.
>>
>>16517265
>Vanishing Point's theme isn't.
Bullshit, in those days the audience knew how to understand a story without being spoonfed.

Look at Easy Rider, hardly any words spoken but it's considered one of the best movies ever made.

That's a crock of shit. People don't just magically get more intelligent or less intelligent over the course of a generation, and there's a reason vanishing point isn't regarded as one of the great movies from the time, because if people can't get it they don't care. If you're a movie enthusiast, you might be able to get something out of it but it's generally only remembered as, "that movie with the bitching white challenger."

Society dictates what's good or not, because society is made of people that are all for the most part relatively average.

Also I've seen old boy, it's a great movie, and guess what, it's got a plot which vanishing point doesn't.

Nice argument retard. You weren't alive in the 70s you have no idea what the fuck people actually thought when they watched movies. You just latch onto the classic Reddit >le born in the wrong generation meme. Easy rider actually has a story that's accessible and that's why it's great. It isn't just some retard going fast through the desert in a car.

After some long thoughts, I've decided to keep my 1973 Gran Torino. I've posted about it before, it's the q-code 351 Cleveland CobraJet. Performance package, black interior/buckets/console. I was going to sell it to try and buy my dad's 1968 GMC SWB 4x4 back, but I decided that right now isn't the time to try and get it back. So, I'll be restoring the Gran Torino like I originally planned.

Needs a good amount of metal work under that vinyl top (previous owner pressure washed it, the top has holes so it trapped the water in there... and popped the weld between the quarter and the roof, along with the usual rusting it to hell) and probably an engine rebuild and trans rebuild wouldn't hurt. I'll hopefully be getting the roof and the small amount of rust fixed this year, with a repaint and new vinyl top soon.

Speaking of which, how much does having a new vinyl top cut and put on usually cost? $1000 or more?

And, does it look like it rides too high in the front to anyone else? I feel like the front end needs to be lowered. I've put taller/wider tires on the rear with air shocks, and the front end to me still sits too high. I might buy shorter springs, or maybe drop spindles. Whichever would work best, and hurt my wallet less.

>actually, seriously believing this

You are one of the dumbest people I have ever had the displeasure of talking to. I mean that sincerely. Your argument was so stupid that making an actual rebuttal listing how utterly wrong you are on every level would take me far more time than is reasonable and would likely fall on deaf ears anyway.

If you have even the tiniest shred of moral integrity, you'll do some google searches for famous authors/artists/composers/directors/actors/etc which were unappreciated in their time but now regarded as classics, some will even fall within a generation.

As for me, I am done conversing with someone who holds such an ignorant view on these matters. Hopefully you can manage to shift your perspective someday and appreciate things outside of what the general populace finds acceptable. You will be a richer man for it.

I can't believe you are this upset by a difference of opinion. It's been 46 years since vanishing point, and it still isnt seen as a great movie. More people (society) would appreciate it at this point if it was.

Do you think it's great? Sure why not. But it's not.
>>
>>16518303
This is literally the only time I will ever agree with KKK.
Art is defined by society. Society chooses whats good or not. Art isn't good because some critic says it is. And yes people discover artists well after they are dead but that doesn't change a thing.
>>
How viable is it to just go to a junkyard and trying to rebuild a car from a body / parts you find there?
>>
>>16518623
More viable than thinking a long block 302 will growout of your intake and car
>>
>>16518422
>>16518303
Well, I'm going to disagree here and say art is retarded no matter what society says. Since when is the majority of any population *really* smart enough to know what's actually good for them?

Art is enjoyed by many in its various forms, myself included, but that doesn't make it any less stupid and detrimental to any society's efficiency in terms of growth and other forms of progress. As a result, the distinction between good and bad art is pointless, and either argument therefore moot.

I thought I was gonna be cool and have a leather wrapped dash pad. >>16524023
>Cook thigh
Cool though
>>
>>16524023
They've always been cowls on Pontiacs though.
>>
>>16524094
When you say shaker, I think of a ram air set up similar to those on Mopar and Fords with a forward facing intake scoop. Cowl works a bit different, I don't really know the benefit.
>>
>>16524232
When I say shaker what I mean are protruding intakes connected to the engine instead of the hood. Whether they face forwards or backwards is irrelevant.
>>
>>16524257
Shaker is cool regardless, but the direction it faces can have a direct effect on engine performance. Ram air is a thing.
>>
>>16524331
>Ram air is a thing.
Pretty sure it's not. The lower temperature of the air will make a difference, and a tunnel ram will make a difference to air flow compared to more compact intake manifolds, but I'm certain to have read on multiple occasions that the mere air pressure at driving speeds doesn't even remotely match, let alone exceed the air volume sucked into the engine.
>>
>>16524349
At higher speeds, like similar to when down force takes affect, the ram air works to pressurize the charge. The problem is if you don't have a carb designed to take a pressurized intake charge it doesn't work that well.

Thats a lot of the reason why the carb is on top of the roots blower, and how EFI is better for ram air because it can compensate for the increased air flow.
>>
>>16524403
And I'm sure that even at higher speeds it's not enough for pressurizing the intake charge. There's a reason turbos spin at 20,000 rpm.
>>
>>16524428
It's not much, like maybe a 10 percent improvement at speed.

Think about this though, Joe fine when you see top fuel dragsters, f1 cars, things like the hellcat and 911 gt2 the intake is facing forward and not backwards? They don't design it like that if it doesn't do something, and it's not exactly aerodynamic.

Ah yes, glorious 0.7 PSI at 200 mph. The physical principles are beyond my comprehension but scientific sources state that air can be considered practically imcompressible at below 230 mph.

>>16524491
Better than sucking 150 degree air in under the hood like your typical round air cleaner
>>
>>16524491
Still neat.

I don't get why we are arguing. There you go at speed it helps. Not by much, but it helps. Also that slightly pressurized air is cooler which helps a bit.
>>
>>16524516
That's what I said before. Therefore it doesn't actually matter whether your intake sticks out forwards or backwards.
>>
>>16524565
