The third gear thing is a known issue with the T98, caused by worn teeth on the dog clutch. Fortunately, they're common as fuck and any 4-wheel drive parts house should have rebuild kits. Not a deal-breaker.

The 4-152 engine has a weak lower end so be careful if it has one.

How do I stop an intake manifold gasket leak when I just put a new one in?

Retorque the bolts?
>>
>>16535806
take the intake manifold off again and properly seal it again

I did properly seal it. At least I thought I did. It wasn't leaking when I first put it on

Did you just remove the manifold not too long ago or has it been a while?
Try torquing the bolts down again, but if that doesn't work then you still have to take the manifold off again

Right now I'm torn between stock cam or throwing in a cam while the motor is apart and its my budget holding me back. Also not sure if I want to go with a ebay special GT45 or an on3 78/75. Stock cam and GT45 and I could buy everything in one go and have money for the tune

The goal is anything over 500 so I can rekt Mustangs on the street

>>
>>16538395
There is something wrong with stretching your tires to the point that they blow up while operating the vehicle in a normal manner.

I like a lowered vehicle though.
>>
>>16538395
>There's nothing wrong with stance, not to mention the definition of stance is not set in stone and varies depending on who you ask.
This is like when people say faggot means bundle of sticks. Stance has been redefined to mean mexicants and pinoys swagging out their shitty boring rental cars for "da gram".
>>
>>16538429
Stretched tires are fine, I push my car to traction limits every day with 175s on 8 inch wide wheels, few days ago I didn't even know but I had 8 psi on my rear right tire and I had been driving around like a maniac for a week, nothing ever happened, it's raining right now and it grips fine.
Stretch isn't as bad as you think, I live with it every day for over a year, no issues at all.

But engines all share the same basic design, I don't get where you're going with this. If you starve a japanese engine of oil it'll last just as long as a comparable american engine, or german engine, or british engine, or any other god damn engine. Bearings like oil. The japanese aren't using magical blessed bearings or some shit.

There were poor designs from every company, And I think everyone needs to stop idolizing certain cars or brands overall and just fucking enjoy driving / working on them / whatever floats your boat.

Anybody here skilled with bodywork or fabrication? I wanna build an American bastardized version of the Interceptor. The best way I can replicate an XB Falcon seems to be swapping Mustang front end parts onto a '70-71 Torino.

How hard would this be? How much would a shop probably charge to do it for me? I definitely couldn't do it myself. Not my field of expertise.

Buddy pulled the old I6 out of his '72 Comet yesterday, went pretty damn well. Good Sunday fun. He's going to clean up and paint the engine bay before dropping the 302 in, if things go as well as they have so far we should be ready to drop the 302 in a couple of weeks.

Couldn't give you the specifics as it isn't my engine, but I'm pretty sure it was pulled from a '94 Mustang. He's basically swapping out the stock EFI for a performance carb, replacing a few seals, replacing most of the bolt-ons with aftermarket improvements, and pairing it with a T5 trans.

any tips for buying first junk engine to rebuild?

I don't know jack shit, basically just going to pick up the block, and then figure out what I want to do from there.

Do I just drop it off at the engine shop and tell them what I want out of it, and they give me a quote, or is there more to it than that?
>>
>>16548728
That depends. Are you just trying to find a nice engine and refurbish it, or are you building it for power?
>>
>>16548998
I'm wanting basically stock, but with a bit of umph to it. Mild cam, non-stock heads, bored carb, and maybe headers. Nothing over the top, but I do want more out of it than your standard rebuild I guess.
>>
>>16549034
You should be able to do all that on your own pretty easily. You could take it to a machine shop for any kind of work you actually need done on the block/heads, but everything you're talking about is basically bolt-on.
>>
>>16549079
I'm not at all mechanically inclined, and would rather not fuck up what would be a $2500~ engine.

Not to mention my only tools are your basic socket set and misc. assorted wrenches/generic shit
>>
>>16549096
Get yourself a 160 piece mechanics toolset from Sears, and a good torque wrench. You'll be fine, they're just big, heavy Legos
>>
>>16549079
>>16549034
If you're changing heads definitely take them to a machine shop and have the decks resurfaced, maybe a valve job. Not all the aftermarket is the same but I've seen some really leaky valves out of the box on pricey heads, iron and aluminum alike.
>>
>>16548525

Tools and my own dirty work aside, would the engine shop be able to fully assemble the engine to be drop in ready?

I'm literally not confident in my own work to do this job, and would much prefer a shop to do it for me.

After reading this board a bit I've come to the conclusion that I need to educate most people on some basic grammar and trademark principles.
Please do stop using "LEGO" as the plural form for LEGO pieces. Instead of saying "I need a tub to sort all of my LEGO", instead use proper grammar and say "I need a tub to sort all of my LEGO pieces" (or bricks, toys, components, etc.) You are destroying the LEGO trademark by referring to the pieces themselves as "LEGO". If everyone does this, the term "LEGO" will become generic, and other inferior companies will legally be able to produce and sell "LEGO".
LEGO themselves have made this point numerous times. I tracked down a bit of text off of a LEGO box from 1980:
"Dear Parents and Children The word LEGO® is a brand name and is very special to all of us in the LEGO Group Companies. We would sincerely like your help in keeping it special. Please always refer to our bricks as 'LEGO Bricks or Toys' and not 'LEGOS.' By doing so, you will be helping to protect and preserve a brand of which we are very proud and that stands for quality the world over. Thank you!"
As a personal note, I think it would also be appropriate to call them "LEGO pieces", or "LEGO components", in addition to "LEGO Bricks or Toys".
Thank you for respecting LEGO as a company and abiding by their wishes. Please stop using LEGO (and of course, LEGOS) as the plural form for LEGO pieces. Thank you!
>>
>>16549118
If I were you, I'd start learning a bit before taking it on. If you just pay a shop to do everything for you, you'll never learn anything. Plus they'll fuck you in the ass. Are you really prepared for that?

I can do the basic shit. I have a good understanding of the concepts. You want me to change the starter, or do a tune up, I gotchya. But, the internals I don't know shit about. I'd much rather have the warranty and quality of work from professionals that know what to look for, and how to do it.

And I suck really bad with gaskets and I'd much rather kill myself than have to deal with lining up another pan gasket.

I've always had a dream of literally hacking in a 454 BBC(big black cock). Bolt a leaf spring 9" rear end on to replace the solid axle in the back, shoehorn the 454 in and then have doors fly open from the sheer amount of body flex from the torque on launches.

if I ever have the money to buy all the parts I'm gonna do it.

Agreed.
>>
Here's a classic.
>>
Rear main seal on my Bronco is leaking like a whore's cunt. While I'm taking apart half my drivetrain I figured I'd slap some new U Joints in the driveshaft, clean it up, put in a new transmission fluid filter, new oil pan gasket, and oil pump. How much time should I set aside for this? I'll have a competent person working with me to do this.
>>
>>16556288
a couple days if you have ALL THE PARTS YOU'LL NEED

a couple weeks if you don't.

>new oil pump

Why? usually oil pressure problems stem from bearing clearance problems.

I can't wait for winter to be over so I can finish the bodywork on this beast. The hottest my garage can get up to in the winter is about 45 so it's too cold for the bondo.
>>
My car is not really a classic but I figured you guys might know. I looked underneath the plastic cowl by the windshield wipers of my car, and the rust is pretty bad. I found a penny sized rust hole on the firewall. Is that area an important structural part of the frame? I really don't want to deal with this right now.
>>
>>16556298
I figured it was bearings being worn, but I figured I'd replace the cheaper and easier part first. Worst case scenario, I've got a known good oil pump and I can guarantee it's bearings. Which I do not fucking want to do. Just eliminating a possible cause, really. At least I have all the parts already.
>>
>>16556309
Just use a space heater pointed at the place you want to use it.
>>
>>16556314
Year/make/model. Pictures would also be helpful.
>>
>>16556315
you can do a quick visual inspection of the oil pump, but if you're getting abnormally low oil pressure then your bearings are on the way out anyway(be from the slop in them or the oil pump itself).

you might be able to extend the service life of the motor by running a thicker oil, but it's only a short matter of time before those bearings go.
>>
>>16556326
I could do that, but I got a suburban in the garage next to the truck and it needs a fuel pump. It's been crazy all winter with family cars breaking down. Once they know you got a garage that can get at least some heat there go your weekends.
>>
>>16556331
Unfortunately, my oil pressure gauge is unlabeled with actual pressure. Just "NORMAL" with a high and low marker. Once warmed up, it drops all at once to the "YOU JUST LOST ALL OIL PRESSURE. PANIC." side when idling. Although that's just how it behaves when oil pressure drops below like 7psi or something. It's "NORMAL" elsewise. I'm just hoping against hope that I don't have to replace the bearings on this truck. It's my DD, so putting it up for any amount of time isn't the easiest thing to do.
>>
>>16556330
I'll get pics later, but it's a '91 240sx. My plan was to just chemically and mechanically remove as much rust as possible and use a zinc based primer to atleast hold it over until i can fix it proper. I'm really afraid of fully removing the cowl and finding something I don't want to see.
>>
>>16556383
Whatever's there is already thwere, whether you see it or not. Might as well get it over with.
>>
>>16556372
You could buy a cheap aftermarket oil pressure gauge, they're pretty easy to set up.
>>
>>16556406
I had honestly considered doing that but ultimately decided not to in part because I'm trying to keep the truck as close to stock as possible. I had considered jury rigging something so I could have the normal oil pressure gauge in the cluster and the numerical gauge hidden somewhere else. Or only hook it up to see how the original gauge operates. Just to get a grasp of how much movement on the original gauge represents a 10psi increase or whatever.

0-top speed takes 25 seconds

I'd say 0-60, but apparently it'd need to be downhill on ice and over the rev limiter to get there.

Sure sounds fun to me.

It's long.
12 feet between the cab and the bumper. I'm throwing a tiny house on it to travel the country.

I think it's the same length as a long bed extended cab, but they put a short cab and a box on it.

Pretty sure the ext cab long bed rear axle would be further back. That one looks more like it had a flatbed or stakebed or some other utility installation on it.

Got a turbo 12v cummins with a 5 spd.
It was some sort of box/moving truck for a long time, although I don't know if that is how it came.

The computer is in the floorboard of my other truck right now... all it does is regulate voltage, and it hasn't been doing that recently, which is all that is obviously wrong with it right now.
