Actual few questions from a person who does 8 000 highway driving every 2-3 months.

Do you people actually appreciate it when I strafe the yellow line on the far left lane to give you more room?
How much space do you prefer to have me lane change in front of you? (i'm told 5 car lengths is normally appreciated)
When stuck in heavy traffic, I try to drive my manual shitbox in front of tractor trailers as a "scout" vehicle to slowly cruise to my destination. Do you people like that shit or am I just being annoying leaving 3 cars of space in front of you whilst s l o w r o l l i n g?

This is what I hear from normie tractor trailer drivers in the country side but I haven't heard of this from driving memelords.

>Do you people actually appreciate it when I strafe the yellow line on the far left lane to give you more room?

When I'm passing I always hug the line furthest from the truck. 4 wheelers can get the fuck out of my way, I'm the one trying to avoid a highway shutdown.

>How much space do you prefer to have me lane change in front of you? (i'm told 5 car lengths is normally appreciated)

I try to give space but only if I'm going significantly faster than the truck I'm passing or else I'm blocking traffic behind me wanting to blast past me

I keep enough distance to where I don't have to stop and go again. I do this for the benefit of all of us. If gap becomes too big, I speed up.

Rant: I fucking hate socal truck drivers so fucking much in traffic. Literally, why the fuck do they put it in 4th gear and cruise for miles having miles of room in front of them and blocking everyone else? It's so fucking annoying. I'd be behind some swift fuck and notice cars around me going faster than I, I go to pass in the first lane and theres no fucking cars in front of him but going 25 mph less than everyone else.

SO INFURIATING.

I assume you're trolling, but yes. It's annoying as fuck, and dangerous for the 4wheeler to be that close.

I often give some gentle applications of the brake; enough to light the brake lights up, but not enough to actually scrub off any speed, in order to discourage guys when they follow too close.

I know just plain bad driving causes more delays in total, but when one person's fucktarditude causes hours of delays for thousands of people just because they were trying to skim an extra mile per gallon, it's fucking pathetic.

You can make 49 cents a mile here if you get the 5 cpm fuel mileage bonus (which is easy to get every week, gotta average 7mpg) and drive a ecofeatherweight truck for another 5 cpm bonus.

At the terminal the reefer guys say they drive at least 2500, and can push 3k if they want to.

What interests you? There's lots to do besides dryvan and reefer.

Pneumatics for hauling bulk chemicals like cement powder or frac sand are pretty easy and offloading them provides a little variety through the day.

Cryogenic work hauling liquid nitrogen and other liquefied gasses is interesting work.

Fluid hauling pays pretty well up here in Canada, and has a lot of variety.

Flatbedding will give you exercise and can eventually pave the way to do heavy haul or equipment hauling, stuff that pays really well.

Then there's all the vocational truck driving work like delivering ready mix, snowplowing, logging, oilfield equipment, etc.
>>
>>16499453
Teams are the biggest scam in the industry. I can't wait for this motherfucker to be off my truck. And then burn the truck down because it's an automatic.
>>
>>16499528
Why are they a scam. I was kinda thinking about it.
>>
>>16499500

>>16499503
I don't really mind hauling anything, I'd just need to get my HazMat endorsement. The oilfields are about three hours away from me, but a lot of them want you to be 25 with like 3 years of experience.

>>16499583
I'd say the pay is barely better than solo, plus you have to be in a truck 24/7 with someone who could be an absolute pig/psycho/weeb etc.
>>
>>16499583
well, in most cases team driving is considered an excuse to make you run 24/7 without stopping so they will hand you stuff thats either ultra late and expect miracles or just give you eta's that mean if you even stop for fuel, youll be late.
then theres the living accommodations. how does living in a 6x6 cell sound? kinda uncomfortable right? now add another person with all their shit to that same space. most solo drivers use the second bunk as storage for food and clothing. you dont get that luxury with a team. hell, you dont even really get your own bed. as its "illegal" to sleep in the top bunk while its in motion, i use sleep loosely as you wont get very good sleep while its in motion especially after you realize you are entrusting your life to another guy who is just as tired as you.
your new very close roomate will be only remotely near where your hometime is. at best.
he will also inevitably want to be home as much as possible.
TLDR: unless you like homosex team driving is not for you.
>>
>>16499670
Yeah probably. If you actually decide to submit an application (and you WILL get hired that afternoon) we can figure something out. I wanna say we split $500. Do you have Tox or ProtonMail or anything?
>>
>>16499679
It's legal to sleep in either the top or bottom bunk as long as it has restraints.
Basically, you just have to condition your body to be able to function on minimum sleep. I've talked to some guys who split their shifts into 6 on / 6 off instead of 10/10, but that means driving on each other's logs, so hope you don't get pulled over.

Rand has the much better interface and non-retarded POI/saved places, but garmin wins on interface responsiveness.

Biggest problem with Rand gps is they fucking love to ignore permanent avoidances.

I'm sure something like that. There are also a whole lot of immigrants driving around less than roadworthy vehicles so could be that. Ours might have LCDs though, so I suppose there are differences, however minor. For a fact, yours appears to have approximately two dozen less Hispanics than any I have ever visited.
>>
>>16506324
>50 states
>independent self-governing
Except that's wrong because the DMV, DOT, and FMCSA are federal institutions.
>>
>>16506340

>DMV

Uhh, no. For instance, ours is called the Department of Licensing. It is assuredly a state institution although if I were a pedant I would speculate as to the many interstate regulations that each must adhere to for coherent interaction to occur between the states. Thankfully, I am not you and will spare myself this embarrassment.
>>
>>16506369

>Federal regulations stipulate that wait times must be kept to at least one hour and all employees must be rude and incompetent. The Hispanic quota is left up to the individual states to decide, though.

=D.

I recently experienced a new-to-me variation of bureaucratic behavior. I had cause to speak with an IRS agent (shudder) and called to make an appointment with the local office. When I arrived, approximately half an hour early, there was a seating area and a sign to take a number although no ticket machine was in evidence. I stood for a few moments nonplussed before an armed(!?) and uniformed agent approached me and removed a cardboard box that hid the ticket machine. He then asked me when my appointment was. I replied, expecting a ticket, but he informed me that tickets could only be issued a maximum of 15 minutes prior to the appointment. I agreed to wait until that interval before receiving my ticket. Incidentally, I was the second person waiting. Further, to gain an appointment, one must call the hotline at least a day in advance to make an appointment, regardless of how many cobwebs drape the dozen chairs in the antechamber. I begin to understand the need for armament.

City bus was pulled up on the curb, I was in the lane going around it but I had to deviate slightly into the other lane.

Dudebro in a lifted F150 tried to pass me in the other lane, I shattered his mirror and left a 6 in scratch on my bus.

I filled out an incident report for the company, hopefully I don't get suspended or anything.

I'll probably go to traffic court in a month and see if I can get it thrown out.

This is true. Florida is real interesting because plates are issued by private companies. So you go to the DMV to register a car and then you have to go to the tag place to get your plates.

The tag agencies don't have to adhere to the strict standards set by the state for the DMV, so those places are extra fun.

Have to get up early and be at the consignee by 0800 in the morning. It's a straight shot from here, GPS says it'll take 35 minutes if there was literally no traffic. I reckon I'll get up at 0600 and roll out super early and pray traffic isn't so bad that it adds an hour and a half to my jog. When I win, I never really make much though. Best I ever really do is go in with $60 and leave with $120.

I had my best slots night ever last night. I threw $40 in and turned it into $400, then promptly threw it all away. Like the song says, I should really fuckin learn when to walk away.
