How does changing your cams or pistons or rods increase horsepower? Does it just let you run more boost? What if you aren't trying to turbo your motor? How does one get more HP? What does a different piece of metal allow you to do?

they change compression ratio and/or are stronger/lighter. higher compression makes more power in a N/A engine, but in a boosted engine you lower compression ratio so you don't blow your shit up when you boostu

>cams
More lift.
>pistons
More compression.
>rods
More not breaking.
More air → more fuel → more power.

(longer rods or pistons that take up more space in the cylinder will increase compression ratio)
and cam profile changes when/for how long/how much the valves open, which dictates what the engine's powerband will be like

Pretty much this.
If it allows more air to be sucked in, it creates more power.

ur mum allows more to be sucked in
