nice try bench racer.
That still doesn't account for the larger power loss through an automatic transmission, the heavier weight of automatic transmission (exception being CVTs), the worse fuel economy 9 times out of 10, and the slower acceleration times 9 times out of 10.

Don't get me wrong. I don't hate automatics completely. DCTs are the only acceptable automatics in cars.
Automatics are king in trucks for a reason though.

Maybe. If it's a high quality one, not the ones you find in minivans or SUVs.

Assuming yours is the Redline:

ENGINE TYPE: supercharged and intercooled DOHC 16-valve inline-4, aluminum block and head, port fuel injection
Displacement: 122 cu in, 1998cc
Power (SAE net): 205 bhp @ 5600 rpm
Torque (SAE net): 200 lb-ft @ 4400 rpm

Lol the SR20DET did these numbers in the 90s, going up to 250 hp in the S15 with variable timing and a t28 turbo... and I'm sure countless other engines did even better in earlier eras

My v6 RAV4 is faster lol

i also hate how if you let the foot of the brake the car starts rolling forward. i bet thats not good for the clutch in stop and go traffic, and its also just annoying having to continously hold the brake down. clutches in modern cars are so light anyway, its literally less of an annoyance to just hold down the clutch 1 sec and put the car in neutral than holding the brake.
>>

Again, assuming yours is the Redline (top trim/performace model/whatever) you gotta compare it to performance models too. Arguing that your car in top trim is faster than another car in base trim is silly.

Eclipse GT: Premium model equipped with a 263 hp 3.8 L 24-valve SOHC Mitsubishi 6G75 engine, 2009–2012 models have 265 hp

So essentially, if you ran into a GT on the street, you'd get rekt

>>16469799

>>
>>16469794
"lets u select gear" doesn't.
It just tells car you want to change gear and it does when it feels like it.
By far the worst form of auto transmission i've tried even in a modern car.
It's like honda del sol of gearboxes.

I'd rather have an old sw20.
>>
>>16469793
the automatic has a torque converter, the converter takes the brunt of the launch, clutches are for shifts. Ive driven both in nyc traffic, holding a clutch is more annoying even on a civic, and constantly slipping it in traffic is worse for it than an auto.
>>
>>16469800
yeah i can pop it in neutral in like literally 1/10 of a second in manual but in automatic you have to be standing perfectly still foot on brake bla bla bla. this goes with everything. so fucking annoying it thinks youre an idiot everytime. like if its in d and you let go of the brake it doesnt roll forward it stands in place???? everything feels counterintuitive. i tried liking automatic but i just couldnt
>>
>>16469784
This. I'm a manualfag until I die, but DCT and modern autos blow manuals out of the fucking water in shift speeds and there more precise than you can ever be... Hence why most high level race cars use DCT instead of conventional manuals

It takes about 0.1 seconds to change a gear.
The only time it will not let you change gear is when the revs would go past the redline.
Not even a modern manual would allow shit like that.

I enjoyed it a lot more in a manual car since there's a tougay on my way home. Also it's not fucking hard to press a pedal. It's literally like driving auto only one more pedal.

Maybe the experts in the thread can answer this.

I'm looking at buying a used Ferrari 360, and the only question is what kind of transmission I'll opt for. The manuals are rarer, and more expensive (anywhere from $10K-$15K, from what I understand). The F1's are a lot more common and cheaper, but I've heard they were rushed to market and may be prone to mechanical issues.

Which would you pick?

Thanks for the input.
Is this because high speeds, fast cornering, etc. wear heavily on the components?
I was only planning on doing it once (maybe going for a two day course), but given this info, I might opt for using one of their vehicles instead.
I really would want accurate stats for what I own, but not at the cost of damaging it.

If you keep tracking a car it will give out sooner rather than later.
Also there is quite a high chance of crashing it.
If you really want to have a fun day at a track get a somewhat cheap car, strip it and mod it to have just the right amount of power/weight ratio.
I did something similar with an old BMW 330. Managed 8 sessions across 7 months with it untill a fucker forgot to brake for a turn and crashed into me.

I believe it, which is why I was only planning on going once. Do you think even that would be more strain than I would want to put on it?
Also, re track time. Do you generally have no other choice than to go in groups (making crashes more likely), or can you pay a premium for solo?

Most tracks will have track days where everyone pays a fees, takes a safety course and is free to trash their car around.

I imagine is very expensive.

Small (a little over 1km in lenght) local track. Was built about 5 years ago. It's a pretty basic course that favors handling over power.

I see your point but not everything is made better by technology that makes the drivers job easier. I do prefer having things like electric starters and automatic timing control instead of hand crank to start or a timing stalk on the steering wheel, but having a manual transmission gives the driver greater control of the car that a slushbox cannot replicate without being an expensive and extremely complicated dual clutch auto. Even then I still can't stand the creep that autos have when you let off the brake. The only way I could own a car without a clutch pedal is if you could turn the creep off like you can on a Tesla.

>american """""cars"""""

Not everybody makes shit cars that take seconds to change a gear.
Actual cars have shift times way, way under that.

Did H00nda start the "my Civic is a sports car" meme themselves?

Why should I care? I'm not a drag strip racer.
>>

That was posted because manufags always go about how much faster is to change gears yourself.
>>

They conceded that expensive automagic grenade transmissions were much quicker for that. The arguments now are

>muh durability
>muh feels

In all fairness if you're buying a car for fun you probably shouldn't be using lap times to make decisions.
>>
>>16471473
Fun is subjective.
Some find fun in cruising, some in drifting, some in beating their own time laps.
Hating on a certain gearbox type like some anons here is autistic.

>manualfags still think their near obsolete stick shift is superior in current year
>so bootyblasted by it that they continuously make threads about it

Driving my 2004 Opel Zafira 1.6L (100 bhp) with a manual transmission is as fun as driving my dad's 2011 Volvo XC90 R-design 2L turbocharged (200 bhp) with a pretty good automatic transmission.

Its all about the sensation and movements of changing gears. You feel the speed on a different level than an automatic, which does everything for you.

A manual transmission forces you to be more observant while driving. Automatic transmission makes you lazy behind the wheel.

New cars have a brake hold feature which just holds the brake down until you push the gas, I love it.

If it's the 9 speed ZF transmission, it really is hot garbage.

>proceeds to post a ton of bullshit that might account for milliseconds on lap times

Also this
>and the slower acceleration times 9 times out of 10.
Is straight up wrong, it's what automatics are best at.

Now, if you had said predicting downshifts for corner entry, I would have agreed, but cmon son.
