I'll get this started, but I didn't see a catch all thread so feel free to post your questions too.

We went to see the Mazdaspeed from auto trader, and while we liked it a lot, I know it does have some mechanical issues ( has some damage to the front, maybe some rust, and the current owner says that the clutch would probably need to be replaced within a year. We plan on taking it in to have it inspected for sure). I have also heard that cars with turbos in them are more expensive to maintain, am I right to be scared of this? Fun is important, but not the only thing.
We sat in a Scion TC at CarMax and actually liked it alot, but we aren't super familiar with them, so just kind of keeping our options open here
The second Mazda from the dealer is also comparably priced, but with fees and everything it will jump up in price, and dealers are exhausting to deal with at times. Also I'm sure the Mazdaspeed would be much more fun.
The Metro is just there as a backup plan , but the idea of having a shitty econobox makes me really happy.
Which would be the best option?

None. Go buy a Volvo 850 T-5

That Geo looks like a good deal.

Scion is a good runner-up though.

Man if there was one in our area we totally would! I have been looking but can't fucking find one. What's the difference in the T5 version?
>>16461747
who the hell is we?

T-5R is the rarest of them all and you'll never find one so don't bother
>240hp
850R is still pretty rare in North America but they are possible to find. Basically the same as the T-5R without the rarity
>240hp
T-5's are the most common turbo 850's and while they lack the 'upgraded' suspension they'll do just fine and your spine will thank you for it.
>225hp
The real difference between the 850R/T-5R and the T-5 is that 15hp honestly

Ah okay. I haven't seen even the base models around here, closest I've found is 4 hours away. I don't think I know enough to be able to go out there and be sure it was decent before buying. I'll keep my eyes peeled though.

Noted. Maybe will just go with the Geo in the end, will definitely go look at it at least.

If u can get a 98 S70 T5 its better then any 850 other then an 850R.
98 S70 T5M has the ME4.4 ecu for super easy tuning and a 16T turbo good for around 300 hp with a tune only.
Also s70's have a nice interior then the 850's

Me and my boyfriend
Sorry forgot to mention I'm a girl

Also the T-5R has a 15g turbo while the 850r auto also has a 15G turbo but the 850R manual has a 16t turbo and a viscous LSD while the T-5R manual does not and that's a pretty big deal.

An 850R in my area I can buy tomorrow, should I?

nope. Its missing R wheels and its an auto. So its essentially an 850 turbo at 11 PSI instead of 9.
If you are ok with an auto go with a 98 S70 T5... Its newer and better interior and you get the 16T turbo.

If you can get it for around $2000 its fine then. You can probably do it if you haggle about the wheels. Those are 850 turbo wheels. Also check the transmission fluid color.

The US never got any 850R/T-5R/T-5's with manual trannys so it's kinda a moot point
