Hey /o/, any thoughts on DD'ing these? I'm not overly concerned about fuel econ, just want more storage space and better performance on snow/ice/etc. than my current DD (98 LS400).
00, 02 Lexus LX 470
03 Lexus GX 470
03 Pathfinder 4x4
05 Explorer 4x4, XLS
I'm liking what I've read about the LX 470, seems to be just a higher trim Land Cruiser J100.
Seems there are complaints about the pathfinder being unibody & having rust problems, but other than that it seems pretty decent...?

Pathfinder & Explorer are both about $4k, 155k and 130k miles respectively.
Lexuses are all around $5.5k & 200k miles.
try to find a 105 if you can. 100/lx cruisers are pretty solid suvs. Size-wise they're closer to the patrol though.
The gx/120 is a pretty solid mid size suv and is a competitor against the pajero and pathfinder.

Thanks. 105's would have to be imported to US, correct? Doubt I could find an affordable one.
If we're talking imports, I wish pic related was sold here. Wouldn't make sense for my needs, but still...

I have an lx470. Going on 300,000 miles. Not good on gas but sure is comfy. Steering is a bit loose for my liking though, there is a lot of play in the steering wheel, you gotta turn that motherfucker around and around. That being said, It seems to refuse to break. Fantastic for the winter.

Just get snow tires for the Lexus.
To be honest, short of deep snow, an SUV will not do you many favors in terms of slick-road driving, I'd take a generic midsize sedan on snow tires.
Having said that, if you live in a northern climate, chances are the Nissan is a total rust bucket. Explorers of that generation are utter dogshit unless you luck into a V8 that's been taken care of. The list of common failure points is insane. Rear diffs, t-cases, ball joints, wheel bearings, timing chain cassettes on the SOHC V6, the list goes on.
GXs are really nice trucks, LX even more so. Assuming they're not too rotten underneath and have been taken care of, 200k miles would not scare me off of one of them.
For good winter performance and better MPG and handling, I'd honestly suggest taking a look at some gen 1 Highlanders/RX300s. Very well built vehicles, just about as spacious as many of those SUV options. Or as a wild card I'll throw out a Mitsubishi Montero Limited (gen 3).

not him but just curious
is it the general consensus that a regular 2WD car with chains or snow tires is better than having 4WD if one is concerned about ice or snow?

Just buy a Suburban.

>paying premium for land cruiser

iirc, that generation of pathfinder is useless off road. Like some other anon mentioned, you could look into highlanders and rx300s.
