It was the only thing with a Mercury bade that sold and when the panther platform was removed, it killed Mercury off for good.

Really wish they would have just retooled the panther platform and kept the main parts. Body on frame, comfy air springs, etc, but apparently Ford bitched it was just too old and would require a major overhaul to get it up to the government standards that would be in place for the 2030 deadline to have all sedans get a minimum of 55mpg highway because the HNIC is a pinko fuck.
