How much did your parents give you for a car for college?
Did they lease/buy one for you?

Not biting into the obvious bait, but is it very common for american teenagers to be given/given money for cars at the ages of 16-18-ish?

It varies by region. It's very normal in some parts and rare in others.

Depends on the income and area, the poor area next to where I live it's really common for Mexican families to give their son pretty much all the money they have for a new base model Silverado 1500. After which the son mounts 24 inch wheels, slams the shit out of a good truck, and blasts mariachi music all day on the block

In the very wealthy city next to mine, just about every child in high school has a car upwards of 20k
>>
>>16445852
Yeah most do unless you want to be restricted to the shitty food on campus and the shitty jobs on campus that every other bus rider is competing for. This might come as a shock to you, but we actually have space in america, so we aren't stack 10 refuges deep every square foot.
>>
>>16445851
I don't know how common it is but because I did super well on my ACT and got like half off tuition, I was gifted a (cheap) used ranger. Was always raised with a philosophy of don't live in excess, we could have spent far more but there's no real point, its in nice condition visually and it runs well.
>>
>>16445836
Nope, I'm a college student and I financed my car on my own and work to make the payments.
My parents, despite being upper middle class don't give me a dime.

Canadian. Spent my money on tuition and living expenses, not a car. Got a full-year bus pass with my tuition every year, only another $160.00 for unlimited rides for 12 months.

A car in university would mean I'd have to work three times as much to pay for insurance, gas, maintenance, etc. and it would still be some lame-ass car like a Camry.

I was fine riding the bus, I have a good vehicle now that I love driving. Plus I feel better knowing that I worked to pay for what I have, it wasn't handed to me. I think that teaches young people to be more humble and responsible with their finances. Maybe not everyone (I'm sure someone whose parents bought them a car will argue they're every bit as responsible), but most people who have had to work for what they have are better off for it.
>>
>>16445936
Oh shit anon
>>
None, I actually bought a Geo Metro for $100 and then learned how to do all of the maintenance myself.

I miss that car.
>>
>>16445936

couldn't possibly hop on the bus to get to your part-time job 10 minutes away from campus?
>>
I got surprised with a small boost to my down payment and a crash course in negotiations so I could roll out with the cheapest new car I could find, it's not that we're rich but they really didn't want to have to deal with me having a shit car. I still paid the lions share of the down payment.

Does anyone have any concrete numbers?
Is 10k average for those that receive money?
I'm looking to buy one of the /slowerthanaminivan/ cars.

Note that I ran a business through highschool (still run it) and made enough to cover the rest of the cost of one.

Background: Parents are middle-upper class and tuition is already paid for.
If someone in a similar situation could tell me what they were gifted that'd be cool.

My parents didn't even help when it came to looking for cars - I had to convince my older sister to drive me an hour away from home to buy my first car.

Rare is parents buying kids a brand new car from ages 16 to 18

Uncommon is the 16 to 18 year old getting the hand me down car so the parents can buy a new family car

Common is parents matching their kids money towards a car

Depending on the area of course. I live in a pretty tiny rural (500 year round residents) town in az so there's not much data there however I grew up in paradise valley where brand new m3s and s classes were in student high school parking lots quite often.

It annoys the fuck out of me to see college aged kids with new sports cars and shit. It's even worse when they rice them out etc.

Fug, I'll be done with my degree in 6 months and finally start making grown up money. Then I can finally get a car I like.
>>
>>16446191

I hear about how much truck drivers make, yet every one of them I meet is poor white trash who drives a shitbox and lives in some dumpy bungalo.

Can you please explain this, because nothing about them exemplifies that they're doing anything at all with their money.

>move to college
>she sold it for like $500
>eventually need car at college
>dad lets me take his old civic and he got newer car
>eventually graduate college, move across country
>dad gives me said car for free

The above scenario is somewhat common for upper middle class or so. Now some rich families do the following:

>two kids in high school, each driving age
>buy brand new car for 16th birthday for each
>they go away to college
>sell car
>1-2 year later
>they want a car at college
>buy another brand new car for them

I don't believe that though, because niggers spend their money and flash it about the second they get it. Hell, they do it with credit as long as they can.

White trash buys giant lifted trucks and toys like ATVs and motorbikes. Most truckers are actually quite poor after they finish paying for all of their expenses, plus the chainsmoking and drinking robs their bank accounts too.

Kek, my dad started routinely calling me out for not having a job when I was 13 years old. Got tired of getting hassled about it and was able to get paper route. Parents refuse to give me any financial help to this day. They paid for clothes and food when I was little, but college, cars, etc. I've paid for myself. They wouldn't even cosign my student loans even though I was pursuing a degree for something not retarded. Pretty sure my parents are just cheap pieces of shit reasoning that by making my life difficult I'm better off. I was able to get a great job after graduating making more than enough to live comfortably and independently. That being said, with the opportunities I passed up and my 20's almost entirely spent in a library or warehouse, I've all but completely severed ties with those faggots. If they think I'm alive for the sole purpose of taking care of them when they're old, they're fucked.

None. all of the stuff you're listing doesn't apply to europeans - driving is not fun for them, it is an expensive chore

-gas is expensive as hell
-streets are tiny and crowded with low speed limits and cops everywhere, not to mention cyclists
-most live in tiny houses or apartments with no driveway, meaning they have to walk to a parking garage to get to their car anyways
-public transit is more frequent and better scheduled than in America, meaning you can get a bus every 5-10 minutes in most places

The car is a liberator in North America - it's a financial burden in Europe. They traded their freedom for over-crowded cities full of stinky refugees and nignogs. Plus they have lagging universal healthcare, to cover stab wounds and rape kits when the refugees get bored.

It should also be noted that driving, and owning your own car, is a very individualistic thing. Europeans are of a more collective mindset, they're used to be being babied and coddled by the state. They expect public transportation as a minimum, and they'd rather have some bus take them around than have to drive themselves. For most European men, the thought of piloting your own vehicle is terrifying - what if you make a wrong turn, or get in an accident? What about maintenance? It's so complicated!

Face it - Europeans are cucks and they love being cucks. Don't try to sell them on a lifestyle they'll never experience or understand.
>>
>>16446639
Driving is still fun in Europe, but it's not worth the expense until you have an income and ideally a dwelling with a garage.

Also your last paragraph is just complete horse shit. Our cities are older than the automobile and were compact to begin with. Do you expect us to tear down absolutely everything and sacrifice our nature and agricultural land for five lane highways so we can move to the burbs and do 50 mile round trips to work every day? Fuck that shit.

You chose to import boatloads of human garbage that have overcrowded your country and strained your resources. You'll see more and more of your individual liberties eroding over the years, until you're in a full-fledged communist state where no one owns anything.

I think something that Europeans don't understand is how fucking far everything is in this country. Basically city here is founded on old forts that were dozens and dozens of miles apart. Back in Houston its not uncommon for people to have a 15-25 mile commute from home to work. Even in northern VA my commute is still like 8 or 9 miles, and working 12 hour nursing shifts spending a 2 hours getting back and forth on a bike simply isn't viable.
>>
>>16446678
This little pile of sandniggers doesn't make a difference and they'll be back in their shithole deserts quicker than they can learn to spell Asylantrag, unlike the 50 million niggers you're permanently stuck with. Also we never had these individual liberties you claim we're losing in the first place. Our population density doesn't permit them. If we lived like you we'd completely ruin our entire living environment. Do you really think that fuckbags like you from a different continent with completely different conditions know what's good for us?
>>

Canadian here, my commute to work is 52km one way. Ontario was made the same way - old forts with a few major urban centres, that are literally hours away from each other.

Even if Europoors could afford ATVs and boats, they'd have nowhere to use them. Where can they camp? Hike? Fish? They'd be lucky to have a few pence left at the end of the month, after paying all of their television and butter knife licensing fees.

Kinda makes me sad, when I think about how many North Americans went to Europe and fought to liberate them from madmen..just so they could hand the country over to hoards of slimy jawas...

The American way doesn't work in every country, but it's still objectively the BEST. That's what everyone is saying. You have a lesser standard of living, in every possible way. You get "free education" and "free healthcare". So you can work some menial job that doesn't even provide you with enough income to buy a half-decent vehicle. Congrats, you have a BA and drive a 1.0L Peugot 300km a year. You can barely afford the mortgage payments on a 1100SF pre-war brick shack with no lawn. You pay 3x as much for sub-par produce at the grocery store, and can't even speak English to any of the staff.

What a fantastic life Europeans have - so evolved and modern. Kek.

America, Canada, and to a lesser extent Australia have the absolute best societies in the world.

The choice is to not make life worse for everyone. We could all buy cars and completely clog the roads and ruin our air quality, but it would be so incredibly fucking stupid that no one right in their mind considers it. thankfully not. When i got the mustang it hadn't been worked on very much beyond making it stable enough to drive around, as well as a coat of purple paint put on it. Which didn't have a proper clear coat so it flaked off very easily
-bad alternator
-radiator rusted but working
-needed a number of new hoses and rubber pipes
-odometer didnt work
-ash tray filled all the way with cigarettes well over a year old
-unknown liquids and goo in various places
-steering wheel rubber and coating had begun -wearing off
-a few holes and burns in the carpeting
-needle and burnt spoon under passenger seat
-generally very dirty
-squirrel nest under hood
-wasp nest next to that (free wasps included that somehow survived from TN to NH)
-number of mechanical issues that wouldnt allow it to pass inspection so we kept it registered under grannys name in TN till i moved back
-headlight mount on passenger side broken, had -an oil rag in it to hold it in place (later replaced with zip ties)
-bald tires
-muffler wasnt mounted very well so it rattled
due to not having tools and my stepfather being from a middle/upper class family with cerebal pasly I didnt have anyone to teach me how to car, any work that the garage didn't do i figured out. Was fun. I wrapped it around a tree about a year ago and miss it dearly.

>Maturation and adulthood

They never used to be. It's because of retards coddling children that society is so slow to develop anything now. Takes people 30 fucking years before they can buy a house and live independently. And they still have student debts on top of their other normal car and house debts.

If we removed half the useless shit we teach kids in school (i.e. indigenous studies, PC libtard indoctrination horseshit classes, etc.), and accelerated the calendars for learning (i.e. you don't have semesters from mid-September to early December, then break for a month), we'd be way more productive.

University degrees could be achieved in 2-2.5 years, and at a fraction of the cost. High school would focus on fundamentally important subjects, and students would not be permitted to graduate until they mastered them (i.e. reading and writing English). Too many dummies walking away with expensive degrees who can't do basic arithmetic or communicate properly. Let alone live life independently.

When I finished university I stayed in touch with a lot of people, and despite being in their mid-late 20's, they still have no concept of what living on your own is like. 6 months ago I spoke with some alumni, ONE OF THEM DIDN'T EVEN HAVE INSURANCE for his fucking contents. He rented an apartment, and had NO INSURANCE. That's dangerously stupid for a 28 year old.

I agree with all of the core points
>Accelerate learning by cutting mandatory liberal arts classes in certain majors in college
>Standardize writing and math skills after HS
>Shorten time in university to less than 3 years

However, I think that having a balanced liberal arts/math&science curriculum is necessary for high school students. I also think the month long break for college is useful for students to visit family and take a break from classes.

I should add that colleges should have a strongly recommended or mandatory financial course, but I doubt that would be added because it would wreck big business' that thrive from peoples ignorance towards how money works.
>>
>>16447452
>I should add that colleges should have a strongly recommended or mandatory financial course, but I doubt that would be added because it would wreck big business' that thrive from peoples ignorance towards how money works.

The Jews would never allow this. It would redpill people on what a ripoff college is and they'd lose customers.

>>16447452

>take a break from classes

They don't need a month long break if the whole program only takes 2-2.5 years. I did a 4 year BA and then a 2 year college diploma. I learned 10x as much at college as I did in university, and it's because the program was condensed and intensive. We were so focused we didn't worry about having month long breaks to visit family and shit. And it paid off, I had a job lined up before I even finished college.

Universities are designed as social engineering tools as much as they are equipping people with life skills. They're indoctrinating them with ideologies that negatively impact society. If there's one good thing about an increased Muslim presence on campuses, it's that they'll actively drown out/suppress the bleeding hearts and trans-whatevers.
>>

>>

>>
>>16447515

What you make relative to your co-workers is entirely irrelevant. "Fair pay" is based on what someone does for the company, what industry averages dictate it should pay, and what that individual is willing to accept as a salary.

Womyn who hold the same job title as men and earn less aren't being under-paid, and the same is true for the opposite. If you think you're worth more, tell your boss, and prove it to them. If they still won't give you a raise, find another job that you feel values you as an employee. If you're demanding wages 20% above the norm, and you aren't performing above the norm, don't expect a raise.

I don't tell my co-workers what I make because it's none of their business, and because it probably WOULD start fights and lawsuits. I know what they make, and it's less than me. But I work harder than them, and I put in 10-12 hours of overtime every week. I do their work when they're away, and they don't do mine when I'm absent for even half a day.

TL;DR people are shit, get paid what you think you're worth
>>

The bmw is on its last legs, but I feel what your saying.

I'm not to much a fan of miata's and it would be weird for me to ask my parents just to deposit the money straight into my account since it's "car money". That might seem weird, but it's the same concept that you don't give people money for Christmas because it's supposed to be a wrapped gift, not just a transaction.

In America, college is mostly about getting drunk and having sex with lots of girls (provided you look masculine and are not incel). Having a car and your own place is conducive to this because these are both places where sluts will want to fuck you. American parents know this because they were also promiscuous animals when they were young so they help little Johnny to get some pussy by paying for his Supra.

I said "when i came to my new job." I previously worked at a vape shop. Whether or not one smokes/vapes doesn't change the fact that the other person was doing the exact same work as me and had been at the company longer but was getting paid less.
however going back to my first post, my point was that a financial class would dispel this myth that one cannot tell others how much they are paid. NOT pay gap or that someone working 15 hours a week should be paid the same as someone who works 30 hours a week.

Parents were going to give me my mom's old car with a value of ~$15,000 and put me on as a primary driver so they could lease a new 335xi for my mom and write it off as a business expense for tax purposes.

However, I felt guilty about taking so much of the family's resources in a first car and didn't even like it, so I shopped around on Kijiji on my own and proposed that I buy a used car of my choosing ('98 GC8 STi for $8800) and pay for all expenses. They were against it for safety reasons at first because I am a new driver and the car puts out some decent power, but I kept pushing the rhetoric of saving money for the in the long run and they eventually capitulated.

They agreed to pay for half because they appreciated my desire to be independent and felt guilty about me spending a large chunk of the savings I worked hard for through studentships and part time jobs (about ~15,000).

A lot of people at my high school got brand new mustangs and shit like that for their 16th birthdays. It wasn't a majority though, most were just given a parent's old shitbox. I grew up in a reasonably wealthy middle or upper middle class suburb, went to a public school. Almost everybody did have a car during high school, though. There was no mass transit and a car was pretty necessary for getting a summer job or going out with friends or whatever.

My parents bought my sister a new Corolla when she turned 18. That was mostly because there was no extra car to give her, though. A few years later when I turned 16 I got my dad's car handed down to me and then a few years after that got my sister's car handed down.

>How much did your parents give you for a car for college?
Nothing.
>Did they lease/buy one for you?
No.

Grew up in poverty stricken part of Aus, parents are pretty much lower middle class but after Mum went through several bouts of cancer, they have pretty much nothing after spending near $100,000 on treatment.

Was told that I would have to buy my own car. Step-dad found a 1986 Corolla Twin Cam for me that was in pretty good shape, bought it for $800, paid for registration ($600), new tyres ($400), and all the usual maintenance needed. It was old though, and things were wearing out. The valve stem seals eventually let go and it consumed an outrageous amount of oil, was a smoking mess as well and if I'd driven it any longer it would have been defected. Bought myself another Corolla with less mileage for $950, blew a head gasket 4 weeks later. Rebuilt the engine top end, has been my reliable daily since.

At 19, I moved out of home and to a better part of the country for a course and eventually a job. Bought and imported a pristine AE86 and rebuilt the engine in my garage over the course of a couple of months, now it's a bit of a weekend warrior as well as being a meme that I can post on the internet. Finished my training and now I'm living in a major city, working a job earning about $50k US. It's not much, but I'm slowly fighting toward the middle class.

Plan is to go to university and get a degree soon, and eventually move to the United States.

I got not one but two econoboxes when I was a student, sums up to 24k€. I guess in germany it all depends on your family, most of my friends got old shitboxes since I was living in a pretty poor part of eastern germany at that time and neither of them nor their families got much money to throw out - on the other side of the spectrum, my gf was living in a very wealthy area and the kids there got entry-level premiums (like a 1-series or A3) or top-equipped polos/ fiestas

The only reason euros don't drive is because their kings, queens, and comunist governments tax and regulate everything to hell and back. Gas, insurance, registration, licensing is all thousands more than the US.

None. I was reliant on myself and am now a successful, contributing member of society.

If your parents paid your way after 16y/o, you're a degenerate fuck and I won't hire you.

What's with everyone on here being so bitter about people who's parents provided them with more stuff? If a kid's parents have the means and the desire to give their kids a damn car then what's wrong with that? The cost of the car is probably a drop in the bucket compared to all the other financial and other burdens your parents took on to raise you. You're not somehow superior just because your parents were broke and you had to provide for yourself earlier than others had to, they're just different circumstances. Broke parents can still raise shitty children and rich parents can raise mature well-adjusted children too.

>good infrastructure=3rd world
If anything, you'd need a car in a 3rd world country

Americans will never understand that in large parts of Europe having no car and riding mass transit is perfectly feasible and convenient in its own way. And europoors will never understand that for most Americans even in major cities the mass transit is a fucking mess at best and having a car is close to a necessity and it's a rite of passage to start driving.

Also remember that the US is bigger than all of Europe put together, and all the distances are scaled up to match. My city's metropolitan area is 6.5 million people spread out over an area almost the size of Belgium.
>>
>>16451196
Yeah you know what other countries also have huge cities with horrible mass transit and non-existent urban planning?
African countries.

I'm not saying that USA is like Africa though, it's just that it's way closer to 3rd world than Europe.

>Closer to 3rd world than Europe.
I've been to major cities in western Europe without trash collection.
>>
>>16451223
I haven't. Where do they put the trash then?

Just because the USA and Europe are not exactly the same doesn't mean one is third world for not matching the other in whatever aspect you decide is important. Maybe I think that in a first world country every person should be able to easily afford to buy a car and drive their own ass around without having to sit on a bus crammed full of refugees.

Also please remember that by the term's original definition, the "first world" was the USA and its allies, so I hope your country was in NATO or else you're the third world, pal. Or maybe even worse, second world.
>>
>>16451236
Oh yeah Italians are greasy gipsy motherfuckers.
Still, you underestimate the amount of trash a city produces. There is no way in hell the trash is not collected, it would look like a landfill.

Bet him and his buddies are owner operators. O/Os make great fucking money, then poorfags like shift shits try to keep up.

My truck drivers make 70k a year and that was way cheaper than paying owner operators per load.
>>
>>16451254
That's no longer the definition. Just like nobody uses cuck according to its true definition anymore.

Yeah and from this thread it kinda looks like many Americans can't buy a car easily too. Many Europeans could buy a 500 euro shitbox too, but they choose not to, because they see public transport as a good enough substitute for it.
I'm not one of them though, but I commuted using mass transit from age 10 to age 18 and it really isn't that bad. Maybe it's because my country is 99,8% white, idk.
