>>
>>16435078
The real issue is environmental and safety regulations regarding the actual manufacturing of the car . American regulations are much stricter than Mexican. If a company wants to build a car in the the United States it has to abide by these regulations no matter where they sell them. A company can skirt these regulations by building plants in Mexico. These regulations put US manufacturing at a disadvantage. The answer is not getting rid of these regulations but instead making sure imports are manufacture in plants that do meet standards and either not allowing imports that don't or just enacting tariffs that make US Manufacturing more competitive. It's not fair to American workers who lose their jobs because of regulations that were meant to protect them and it's not fair to Mexican or Chineses workers who are paid substandard wages and work in substandard factories just so a corporation can maximize their profits

American factory workers in Mexico temporarily staying there have complained about problems with Mexican drug cartels before.

You can't really trust Mexican police after all.

>they'll just increase their prices to negate the extra money they spent on taxes.
Car A and Car B are similar and share a target audience, both are priced at $30k.

Car A's production is outsourced to Mexico to increase profits, price stays the same.

Gov. begins charging large border tax to import Car A, manufacturer raises cost to $40k to cover the cost of the tax.

All of Car A's customers start buying car B instead.

The tax takes away incentive to manufacture cars overseas, which increases corporate profit but siphons money out of the US economy.
>>
>>16436453
So in the end instead of both being priced at 30k, one will cost 40k because of import taxes and the other will cost 38k because of fat redneck union salaries.

Remember that the Japanese government is heavily intertwined with their companies which is why Japanese debt is mainly internal not external.

Trump doesn't really need to talk with Toyota's CEO, he just needs to discuss with Prime Minister Abe, the person who actually holds the power in Japan.

Trump can make a deal with Abe. Abe pressures Toyota back home in Japan.

Everybody wins in the end.

And you know how Trump will do this?

By fulfilling Abe's dream which is Japanese bullet trains being exported to America.

You know that for 8 years straight, Abe failed to convince Obama to buy Japanese bullet trains despite Abe even offering to fund half the cost of making Japanese bullet trains operational in America?

And Japanese Bullet Trains are one of the key highlights of the 2020 Japanese Olympics.

If Trump says he will help Abe with exporting Japanese bullet trains to America, Abe will help Trump deal with Toyota.

You need to understand how Japanese society works.

It is very hierarchical. Prime Minister of Japan > Toyota CEO

>Abe's dream which is Japanese bullet trains being exported to America.
>You know that for 8 years straight, Abe failed to convince Obama to buy Japanese bullet trains despite Abe even offering to fund half the cost of making Japanese bullet trains operational in America?

Holy shit! i had no idea. does he/his country stand to gain that much money if they were to sell their trains here? i don't see any other reason he (a leader of a country) would be so fixated and go that far out on trying to get a product here.

I know Hollywood has recently been pandering to the Chinese film market to let them sell more movies in China when its usually capped at 31 or something foreign films a year but that's usually CEOs and Producers doing that. They would slide in random Chinese product placement (basically in movie advertisement), actors and even famous chinese sports stars (in the latest transformer's movie) that would seem almost nonsensical to non-chinese viewers. It would be highly bizarre if Obama or any US President just stepped up and went out of their way to try convincing the Chinese to let them get in more american films.
>>
>>16436732
Yes, Japan is really hardcore about their trains.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiwan_High_Speed_Rail#History

The government of Japan stepped in when they saw a chance to be Taiwan's first Japanese bullet train export when it was suppose to be France that would benefit since France originally won the bid.

It is essential that Japan markets their bullet trains to America because France already has home plate advantage in Europe.

You see Japan invests a lot in train technology but it would be worthless if that train technology never steps foot outside of Japan.

Sorry, President Clinton supported and signed NAFTA Treaty to promote the north american free trade zone for Canada, USA, and Mexico. you don't really understand this whole thing, do you? it's not the commies that he's fucking over, it's those capitalist pigs that evade taxes by sending production overseas.

he's kicking them right in the dick by threatening to impose more tariffs/taxes on commerce over the border. so they can't just send labor over to mexico so juan and crew can build corolla's for $2.50 an hour. now it makes more sense financially to send production up to detroit so that rob and janet can produce cars for $7.35/hour. whether this is a good or bad thing is yet to be seen. but it's more production in America for sure.

now for Mexcio? hopefully they further their industries and create more prosperous children.

I meant it in the sense that commies get mad at anything Trump does. Trump succeeding is the worst possible nightmare scenario for these bitter people.

Plus Mexico needs to fix its cartel problem first before it wants businesses to come there.
>>

>now for Mexcio? hopefully they further their industries and create more prosperous children.
If they aren't rich so they can retire in Mexico, they illegally immigrate to retire in the USA due to its social welfare system for old people. It creates a burden on the taxpayers here of course. But as long as democrats keep pushing through more amnesty programs each time they become president, the illegals will keep coming across the border, live with their legalized relatives, and wait for the next amnesty. Then they will apply for all the social welfare, free housing, and subsidized everything else while still having their relatives as a safety net.

The danger of amnesty programs is that the illegals have come to depend (self entitlement) on them occurring with each democrat president. So they keep flopping across the border and then play the waiting game.

If the major expensive car parts are still from Japan, that sends the money back there. And it's easy to game the "made in usa" label.

Just create separate shell car parts and car service companies in the usa that buy the japanese parts. Then those usa companies put together the car parts collections (kits) as KITS assembled in usa by japanese expatriots undergoing training. Then those kits are sold to another shell company which assembles those subassemblies using japanese workers. Now it is made in usa subassembly.

That company now sells to Toyota factory proper.

A world of 10% haves (wealthy, government employees, military/police, utility services) versus 90% (everyone else). And there will be walls inside america as well. To separate the oasis zones from the normal population since all is well. To stop the common poor population from voting, almost everything poor people might get in trouble for can be made into a felony. That makes sure most of them will get charged sooner or later. Since felons can't vote, the problem is solved because then only the wealthy and the military that preserves the status quo can vote. Repeated Tax Cuts for the rich means 95% of the taxes will be paid by everyone else.

you shitting me? people cared, there just wasnt a whole lot anyone could do about it, other than spend an extra half hour looking for shoes made somewhere other than china or pakistan

people have been worrying about it since the mid 00's, it's just nobody really noticed until the economy crashed that there were no jobs to revive the economy outside of mcjobs.

thats the thing about free trade job exporting. in the short term, you get the benefit of cheaper goods. quality is irrelevant because its so cheap people can just replace it. So the economy booms because consumption goes into overdrive.

in the long term, however, they no longer have the money to replace it either, because you no longer have the kind of good paying jobs that could afford that high rate of consumption.

so most people only started noticing this over the past 8 years since the economy tanked, because what traditionally kept downturns going, labor, no longer exists. manual labor, like construction, is all mexicans and engineering degrees and "5 years experience", and heavy manufacturing is all in canada or mexico, with everything else in china and other third world shitholes. so suddenly you had not one but TWO presidential candidates, one on EITHER side of the aisle, talking about that as a key part of their platforms, and so it became a nationally recognized issue that before was only spoken about at the dinner table while talking about the latest "jobs report" or the latest headline about how "the economy's doing great, better than ever, thanks to our lord and master Obama!"

Honestly bringing all of the jobs back to the US would probably just backfire, because I'm sure Mr Billionaire won't take kindly to unions. Trump actually sort of does even though it's clear he also wants to make money while in office. I think those examples were for the distant future if the constant trend of tax breaks for the rich, removal of independent ethics boards (republicans will do that when Trump is in office), and other law changes keep on increasing the chasm between the wealthy and everyone else. When the gap gets big enough and there is no one in the middle, then it will be time to fence off america internally.
>>
>>16440562
The problem is will the rest of the republican party let Trump do what he wants to do? He still needs the Republican Congress to vote. He still needs the Republican Senate to vote. And as you saw during the election, most of those republicans dislike Trump a lot.

So what they might end up doing is implement that nasty Republican America that we didn't want AND get to blame it all on poor Trump in the process. Those republicans will have their cake and eat it too.

They still work. They keep those "letters of understanding" and other things active. And the existence of a union automatically gives employees additional protections they otherwise would not have.

Many other things we take for granted in today's workplace were the achievements of unions after years of negotiations or even lawsuits. Pensions, benefits, time off with pay, paid vacations, and parts of the 401K (nixon gets credit here) are due to unions. The ability to have "letters of understanding" which are sort of like amendments to the Constitution is also useful. It allows for contracts to be modded without going thru all that bullshit hardcore grim negotiations again.

Those companies will simply avoid the tax by declaring themselves no longer to be USA flagged ships, but flagged in Bahamas, Liberia, or someplace else and thus not subject to the "USA company running away offshore" tax.

Anyways, this tax needs to be calculated such that it is approx equal to the product Uplift. Uplift is the difference in labor costs (not util, local taxes, etc) equal to what that company would have charged had that product been made in the USA. It would be inappropriate and unfair to make OSHA and EPA costs part of Uplift.

The people who say it is unfair to the consumer to pay higher prices. Well, okay, let the USA vote to become a province of China. We will definitely have lower prices then if that is all those people care about. Of course, welfare would end since China may be communist, but they don't give commie benefits out. You didn't realize that some of the municipal buses are made by chinese owned companies. They already have a start and are building out distribution networks and physical locations. China has even copied the USA federal testing track and facilities for testing cars for the usa market. So they are starting to ramp up their knowledge. Sooner or later they will steal or copy enough to get them going.

After that, it's a matter of pulling themselves up by their bootstraps which you have already seen them do with many electronics companies. A lot of the stuff you buy in the usa from a "name brand" is actually now a chinese company. In some cases, they simply bought the name and threw everything else away.

They are learning how to build cars by first taking over all the parts and then subassembly construction. They're doing a good job at it.

"On Monroney stickers they give a complete breakdown of the parts content on each individual vehicle; see pic related, an example from an Accord.

"The ATS has been gradually becoming less and less American as the Michigan plant has slowed production due to decreasing demand. They just announced the ATS/CTS plant is actually being idled due to low demand, so we're likely going to see even less American parts content as the line and supply chain is shuttered. They've been importing a large number of parts from their Shanghai plant since it started building the ATS. GM has already stated they're going to begin importing CT6 units from China. I have no doubt they will soon import the ATS from Chinese factories as well.

A lot of USA parts sourced from Japan are actually made in China. Even the Japanese companies suffer from chinese-made parts.

PICTURE:
For example, at Discount Tire in the USA, this is a car part that is claimed to be made in Japan. However, if you look at the part that was sourced from Japan, it was made in china. So it went: china (made) --> japan (assembly) --> usa

So yes, it was made (assembled) in Japan from all chinese parts.

>>16449512
>I wouldn't be surprised if Mexico and other Central and South American nations started turning towards China.
They always have bought extensively from China. And china makes a lot of counterfeit products and dumps those in Mexico and SA and even Africa.

China got caught with a bunch of counterfeit toothpaste from various Proctor & Gamble brands. They got rejected at the USA port and should have been confiscated, but somehow the ship managed to sail off with the cargo. I say corruption at the port. It should have been confiscated. But some custom houses are owned by chinese that are citizens of the usa. So that makes it all right? I still say corruption. That counterfeit toothpaste eventually went and was offloaded at a central america port.

So Mexico and SA have been buying from China whether they knew it or not even if they are grumbling why they are buying P&G toothpaste from USA when they have their own toothpaste brands that taste better.

Then you would not like any of the supercars like Koenigsegg and even the other regular german brands. A lot of unibody parts are held together with advanced adhesives. And no, these are not the cheap ones you buy at the Home Depot or Lowes.

I suggest you watch all those "How It's Made - Dream Cars" series of videos on a cable channel like Discovery Earth. You'll see lots of robots of course with humans doing mostly the inspections between each stage or a very very few welds in troublesome places.

Of course, with all the adhesives, you wonder how do body shops put these cars back together again after a crash? Obviously, they don't. They have to use welds and rivets and drill out places to add bolts. Some of those places may even be ill-advised to add bolts due to strain and longevity. Seeing how the cars are put together really does make me feel a car can't be the same after a body shop jams chassis parts back together.

Most annoying is seeing suspected worker nepotism or favoritism. You know, the children of certain people may get factory jobs because of their parentage.

China will eventually eclipse Japan. China has a lot of oil and future oil since it has claimed almost the whole China Sea as its land. Even up to 10 miles off of the Phillipines. It's put military bases on multiple islands it has built up and missile launchers and AA at even more islands that it hasn't build full bases on.

Even a lot of oil leases in the Gulf of Mexico are owned by China. So if they pump those underground caverns dry first in a big race, they can also deny the oil to the USA and Mexico.

If Japan tries to take back its Senkaku Islands, then China can whup Japan's ass if the USA doesn't get involved. But if a usa carrier anonymously sinks from mystery terrorist action, the usa would probably back off.

No, Mexico will still pay for the wall. But waiting for Mexico to pay for the wall before building it will take too long. So it's better to start building the wall and send the bill to mexico later. This is the best way. It's important to get enough of the wall built so that any future democrat president cannot simply halt it. Once enough is built, then it might as well be finished.

So Trump has it right. This is the best way. As he said, send the bill to Mexico later for the problems that they caused to the USA.

PICTURE: Mexico charges tourist prices for those rich gringos. In Mexico City, want some pulled pork sandwich? Hey, just $95 for you rich gringo. And you might as well pay since your tourist bus from the cruise ship is here and this is your fixed lunch stop. If you don't buy, then you have no lunch!

Yes, as the screenshot shows, this was on the Travel Channel about various prices that Mexico charges tourists. $95 for sandwich. $120 for the sandwich plate. It's recommended to get the sandwich plate since that has two servings instead of one. What a bargain! The things you see about Mexico on the Travel Channel.....makes you want to have a bigger wall.

The car has CHEVROLET stamped hubcaps. The bicycle is GammaX brand which is made in Tianjin China. Both vehicles are chinese-made. So it is china vs china. No news here. Stamped hubcaps sure are cheap looking. The bare bones depths Chevy will go just to sell cars in China.

Since china legally requires chinese companies have majority ownership, it is a chinese car despite having the chevy logo. Chinese cars with american or german partners are typically made for the asian market. For example, BMW has a chinese car factory in order to sell BMW cars to chinese buyers. Otherwise, china charges a series of fees, a customs duty, and then adds on a 25% tariff for the category of foreign car imports. That puts a true import car out of reach of any normal affluent buyer.

The car industry inside the USA would be more vigorous and vibrant if there was more industry and manufacturing of car parts within the borders. With more shops, the chance of getting mod parts from a local shop is vastly greater.
