Reposting from the end of the last thread.

Future radianfag here
I found a semi-local shop, about an hour away. The owner has an FZ600 and a Radian, and he confirmed that I need an 86-89 FZ600 exhaust to fit on the Radian.

I have been able to find one on ebay, but it has rust and a hole in it. That's not acceptable.
I'm waiting until tomorrow to ask a couple scrapyards have an exhaust lying around. I've pinned down two potential donor bikes - $1000 FZ6 that could be parted out. But I'm not going to buy a parts bike for the one part I want (the exhaust) for more than $500. I might be able to yank off the rear end, or at least the rear wheel so I can put a disc brake on the back. But I really only want the exhaust.

I also don't want to part out an entire bike just to make up the loss for the one part I wanted.
>>
>>16414090
That is pretty fucking cool. Do want.

I don't hate the drz, I just realize that it was a half-assed job of 'modernizing' a bike where they split it up peicemeal into S v SE v SM trying to find the sweet spot between trail crawler <250s and the 650s. It's a sweet spot they never found with the DRZ.

Honestly a massaged DR350 is every bit as good as a similarly worked 400 which was supposed to replace it.

I dont mind if japanese makers sell old reliable garbage, just as long as it's the best garbage they can.

Ok bud. Go to your dealer, test ride both back to back. Tell me it's not just the fact your poor. Tell me you genuinely "like the style" more.

I test rode a second hand drz purely because of all the memes on /dbt/. Money isn't an issue to me and it was dirt cheap second hand. I rode it for 5 minutes before getting bored. It's a shit bike. There's 1,000 better bikes for that style that are better quality and won't fall apart doing highway speeds.

DRZ won't fall apart regardless of what it's doing. Pretty much one of it's biggest selling points.

you can either live with it or you can swap forks from a drz, send them into one of many shops to have them set up for you or just respring it yourself.
the rear is pretty soft and a spring would help a lot a rebuild with thicker oil is ideal.
the forks you can put cartridge emulators into with new springs if the stoock is too soft. or you can just do springs and oil.
a set of springs will cost you about $220
cartridge emulators will cost about $1-200
sending them to a shop to do all the work and be set up for you will be about $500-600

personally i live with iit on mine because im cheap and its not all that bad.

Then let me tell you how this works.
>owner blacklists your community
>you go to another parking lot
>you continue to be a cunt
>get banned from that lot
>continue until you're banned from all the lots
Or
>owner of the lot talks to other owners
>they all blacklist you
Or
>your community ruins it for other local communities on top of your own community
Or
>owner takes all your license plates (he probably already has), finds the video your mate posted, calls the police and tells them this gang of bikers were hooning in his lot
>now the cops are aware that your group has a bunch of cunts in it
I know you just got out of high school and haven't moved out of the parent's house yet. Perhaps you skateboarded when you were younger and no one gave a shit unless you waxed the side of a curb.
But the things you do as an adult have real consequences. Sometimes for other people.

Hooning is fun. Just go hoon out of city limits, or in places where you don't hang out. You have motorcycles. Go to a place, then do burnouts and wheelies and stoppies, then go back to the meetup for some coffee and a chit-chat.
Just don't hoon in the lot you're borrowing.
>>
>>16414461
I think you're confused anon. I'm not tyke guy who was doing a burnout. I just think it's funny how butthurt everyone is.
Obviously it's stupid but fb shaming isn't going to accomplish anything.
>>
>>16414475
Except in this case it does accomplish something. If your community throws out the guy who did a burnout in the lot, or gets him to never do it again, then things will be fine.
The guy who posted the burnout is a double idiot for posting the burnout in question. If it were never posted, you guys -might- have been able to get away with it. Or you might've been able to talk it down with the owner of the lot.

But now you've got a situation where it was posted publicly, and a guy was acting like a shitter. So now your community has to either slap this guy on the wrist, or apologize to the owner, or help make it better. And probably all three.

Alright /dbt/, you have the choice of a Monster 659 (learner-modified 696 for downunda) or a CBR250RR (MC22).

The RR makes you spontaneously and unashamedly ejaculate with the redline and 90s aesthetic, the 659 just seems like pure riding pleasure and is beautiful to boot.

Have only gotten to testride 659 thus far, but the feeling of having to kick in gears solidly (not uncomfortably or excessively though), listening to the sound and feeling the (again, not excessive) vibes just makes me go "fuck me, im riding a goddamn motherfucking BIKE".

Have ridden scooter prior to this and a lil 125, commuted on scooter erryday and want something i can now commute and trackday on.
Thoughts on what i should get?

Potential bikes for this year are as follows:

- 2001 HD Road King Classic (Not big on HD but its a nice looking scoot and I can't afford an Indian yet)
- 2013 HD Switchback (Again, not big on HD but it has a big twin, floorboards, and 6 speeds.)
- 2014 Honda CB1100 (Throwback to the CBs of yesteryear. Would eventually mod it out with these body kits to look like an old CB750 in pic. Drawback? I hate inline fours and short shift them like no tomorrow.)

I like my Yamaha but she just doesn't cut it above 60mph. Too buzzy.

Nah. Apartment living. Gonna try and sell her starting in March. Space is an issue making the CB1100 an attractive option. I rode an 09' Road King for a few hundred miles and liked it. >>
>>16414014
Yeah sure, but it depends on which 250cc bike

A 250cc cruiser will have shit power/weight and be hideously slow
A 250cc sportbike will be a second and a half slower to 60 and run out of power nearing 90.
A 250cc dirtbike will have no power and very little range to use it in.

99% of corners you'll encounter on public roads are best taken well below 80mph, so a 250cc sportbike is normally enough. Just don't plan to pass people on texas highways.

500cc twins are the best all around bikes anyways, especially if they're well balanced. You can set your drink on an AT and it won't shake off.

Anyone who's tried to take the fairing off a modern R1 or R6 knows how much of a mega bitch it is. Even compared to something like an RC51.

the fiarings lock together with side tabs in several places, push clips on ither, and bolts in other.

Just getting the slide tabs off or on and trying to line them up at the same time feels like your're about to crack the $600 side fairing in half.

Just about every oil change it feels like I snap a slide tab off.

The fairings are under the bike too...

with the bike on the stand you have to take the left side fairing off to access the drain bolt without dripping on the plastics and not tweak it by trying to pry it out of the way.

I did an oil change on mine when I first got the bike without taking the fairings off. No problem there.

And I've had all the plastics off as well. The side panels aren't really hard. The only tricky part was the plastic pin hiding behind the fairing that goes into that part under the handlebar. Also the tail piece took a bit of work to remove but still no big deal and naked bikes also have those anyway.
>>
>>16415391
And pretty much every 4 cylinder sportbike has the oil filter through the headers. The R6 is no different.

Good luck getting them off any similar bike with the fairing on without a filter end tool if it's properly torqued though. lel

This is wrong. You want them tightened past hand tight. The last thing you want is one to come loose and spray all your engine oil ll over both of your tires then catestrophically fuck your motor. There is a reason filter wrenches exist.

>No there's nothing under the drain plug on the f4i.
I seem to remember there being no hole under the bottom of my F4i. And I wouldn't want to drip oil all over my header/fairings anyway with no good way to clean it all up.

>>16415436
>99.9% of engines are best drained of oil when level
>You're not completely changing your oil.

Do you really thing it is difficult to drain the oil on the side stand then stand the bike upright to slosh any remaining out?

And like I said, this is typically unnecessary because properly engineered bikes ahve the oil drain on the left side so it is at it's lowest when the bike is on it's side stand, so you can completely drain it of oil with little effort.

No, but if oil does get on them I like to have access so i can wipe the oil off preoperly.
Besides, Yamaha was smart enough not to put the oil drain directly over a header pipe so I don't ever have to worry about that issue anyway.
>>
>>16415432
k have fun "taking care of your things" while the rest of us are out riding and having fun.
>>
>>16415460
>Do you really thing it is difficult to drain the oil on the side stand then stand the bike upright to slosh any remaining out?
If you do that, you won't have the force of a good current to pull any residual oil sludge out of nooks and crannies. Drain your oil with the bike upright, then flush with some oil out of an old leftover bottle before filling up.

I have funnels but I typically just cut the bottom off a dixie cup and slit the side to make a quick funnel. Works, is easy, and I can just throw it away without having to clean it.

>>
>>16415460
>There is a reason filter wrenches exist.
that's to break them loose to replace them when your hands are covered in oil too much to grip them and they've set in place for a long time

And the f4i doesn't have any kind of bellypan or anything under the drain plug stock.

>muh headers
It will mostly run off then the rest just burns away when you start the bike. It doesn't hurt anything.
>no oil drain directly over a header
No the hondas don't either. But you said yourself there is a filter in the same spot above the headers.

>Drain your oil with the bike upright, then flush with some oil out of an old leftover bottle before filling up.
No anon, that's a waste of time. Oil filters are there for a reason, getting every last drop of old oil out of a motor is not necessary. the amount of old oil is minuscule compared to the fresh oil you're putting in.

Many times more old oil is caught up in the top end than any residual left in the sump anyway.

The only effective way to get a substantial amount of old oil out of your motor is to do an oil change, fill it up with fresh oil, run it for 5-10 minutes, then do another oil change.

And doing this will net no benefits for the longevity of your bike at all. Stop being stupid.

I'm with you here. I work very hard to maintain my vehicles well and keep them running for a long long time. However I don't fret over cosmetics or insignificant shit like a little oil on a header that will burn away within 10 minutes.

And the people who act like I'm doing something wrong by not doing things their way tend to be wrong anyway.

Apparently not fast enough. The biggest lesson I've (re)learned is that I am generally maladept at life in general, but have fun in spite of it. There are THREE types of moto riders:
1. Those who have crashed.
2. Those who will crash.
3. Those who are me and continually fuck it up.

>>16415572
I have high expectations of myself, always have, and so feel extremely angry/disappointed when I fuck up. I eventually get over it and move on, because there's shit like pic related to see. A beautiful sunset, the view from Pike's Peak, the sun setting over the Pacific, the sun rising over the Atlantic, both over the Gulf Coast, the deep, earthy smell of driving or riding through an old forest, etc.

you are uneasy so you are overcompensating, you are unable to simply let the bike does what it does (motorcycles require very little input on your behalf for the most part, they ride themselves you just tell them where to go).

As you relax and become a more confident rider you will grip easier and make more subtle inputs, look one of the fastest riders in the world barely holds onto his bars.

Generally, the main bits of your body that get sore with riding is actually your quads and chest.

at least in my experience.

This

Which is why it's weird that "sport" bikes have flimsy ABS fairings that cost $700 a piece instead of lighter, cheaper race fairings with basic track safety shit like closed fluid catch pans and nakeds and half-faired bikes don't have any sort of sliders around the engine covers.

>>16415609
if your hands hurt you're probably leaning on your wrists. this makes accurate steering harder and nearly impossible at parking lot speeds and can turn dangerous once your throttle hand gets too numb to work properly.

support yourself with your abs and back while gripping the bike with your legs so you don't feel any weight in your arms. it's significantly more tiring at first but at least your hands will still work.

I did the MSF a few months ago and I had similar issues (hurting all over) as well as the knees. Discovered part way through the course that in corners I was smacking my knees into the tank when I clenched up in a tight turn
>>
>>16415676
Probably because your knees were just hovering around the tank instead of gripping it, or gripping it way too tightly.

You gotta be firm and relaxed. Part of the bike, not fighting with the bike.

have you considered SV650SU? I was in the same camp as you, I really wanted an MC22 but they're just not all that practical and I was far too big for them really.

SVs aren't as light and not as much of a weapon around the corners as an MC22 will be but they are faster in a straight line and much roomier (not to mention no carbs instead of 4 tiny ones).

Can confirm they're still plenty of fun to punt around a track.
