Memes aside, what do you use to keep your car smelling fresh if you use some sort of artificial product?

Those who stand by the "just keep the windows down" philosophy need not apply.

I've heard those clip on gel things for the vents are the better ones, while the canned ones typically are inferior to even the classic tree fresheners.

Some people don't wipe their butts or only wipe once. Then they sit in your car seat and their dirty underwear or clothing transfer the grime into your car seat. Now, each time there is moist air, that reinvigorates the bacteria and mold in your seat's fecal seedbed.

My car is not alive, so I don't need or want bacteria to grow in it. It's rotten logic for a car to say "Let the bacteria grow and it will all achieve a healthy stable balance of bacteria and mold types!"

>you should wash yourself biweekly
You should not FORCE your bacteria and moldy clothes onto other people's car seats. Your grimy hand oils and sweat laden with bacteria leave crusty type fingerprints as opposed to the very light fingerprints others leave.

>what do you use to keep your car smelling fresh if you use some sort of artificial product?

I use the little Febreze scented air fresheners that are $6.89 in a four-pack at Sam's Club. I guess they cost more if you buy them one at a time. I don't need them at full strength, so I turn the dial to minimum setting. Then I use scissors to cut very thin strips and use them to cover about half the scent holes in the back of the container. That gives a trace of scent in the car without being too strong. You can cover fewer holes if you want a stronger scent. It also means less oil deposits on the fabrics and windows of the car as the air freshener slowly evaporates.

I prefer non-food scents. I don't want a car that smells like people were eating food in it and thus left food behind. I also don't like obvious perfume scents like Chanel No.5 for use in a car. On a girl that is good, but not in the car.

A nice scent I like for car use is Febreze Linen/Sky. Febreze actually made a combination scent of their Linen Fresh and that Sky smell. It works well and smells light instead of cloying. Thus, it has a more refreshing smell than a musk or chemical "Axe-style" smell would.

I tape the febreze to binding clip and then clip it to a hidden area under one seat. That works well. If you don't mind passengers seeing, you can always stick it on the coathanger hook next to a rear passenger seat. All usa cars seem to have those oem coathanger hooks.

From a long ago dakimakura care thread on 4chan:
It may be better to lift up the comforter/sheet cover and spray a little bit of an expensive feminine perfume at the foot of the bed. I found a nice one at the Nordstrom perfume counter. If the perfume has to travel with the dakimakura, then spray it on a sheet of Bounty (or similar) paper towel and insert that paper towel up the backside of the dakimakura between the pillow and case to about shoulder height. The friction of the paper towel will keep it there.

With the covers down and the dakimakura creating a slight airflow space under the covers to the foot of the bed, the gentle perfume smell is more distributed and doesn't seem like it is emitted from any one spot on the dakimakura.

it's about not smelling like shit

the bacteria will re-colonize your skin in hours after showering, just as you do things like put on your clothes, touch doorknobs, sit on toilets, put on your coat, name it, it covers you in germs. the idea is to wipe them and their secretions off before it all starts to smell too badly and start fresh.

if bathing is detrimental to your health you have much bigger problms.

A clean cabin air filter with carbon inside of it (if available) and one of those refillable cassette style air fresheners from Ekosha. Real ones last almost a month on the lowest setting, knockoffs last like 2 days. Ekosha also has a really nice Febreeze esque spray in a myriad of scents too, which aren't too bad if that's your thing. I've used the spray before on my floor mats and seats before. They're really hard to find at a good price though

How do I keep my car smelling fresh, he asks.

By keeping it clean. Vacuum every now and then, take out the floor mats and bake 'em in the sun and air it out, clean cabin filter, wipe off dust, heck, even dehumidifiers like silica gel pouches are good for keeping your car from smelling moldy or stuffy. I take my rear seats out and clean them outside of the car sometimes, it's a 15 minute job well worth it. My car was smoked in when I bought it, had to tear the interior apart and clean each part separately, now it smells like plastic and canvas + slight cherry fragrance can be noticed, like it should.

People here are suggesting stuff that masks the smells, not worth it. Fragrance is nice, but if you're using it to mask the smell of cigarettes, month old bigmac and fries in the backseat or old beer cans, you're just being a white trash retard.

I bet hald these niggers here don't even know how to wash the exterior of their car, so expecting y'all to even know how to vacuum is a bit of a stretch.

Yeah. Good luck mate. Look into ozium, ozoning your car will help get some of the smell out, but when that shit's deep into cloth seats or embedded into plastics on the rear of the panels, the smell will reek back in a few weeks, slowly but surely, only to be enhanced once the car gets baked in the sun.

Spend the time cleaning rather than ozoning the shit out of the car and hoping for the best. Dog smell is another thing that is simply disgusting, I'll rather buy a car that's been smoked in than one that has had a dog in it. Smokers may be messy, but dog owners are a whole different breed of unsanitized beings.

>Clean the inside windows with window cleaner

Air freshener oils evaporate from their container and some of that oil deposits on windows as an oil film. So I prefer the less oily small size ones under the assumption that they emit less total oil volume into the cabin. To clean that oil film on glass windows I use a paper towel and cleaner to take most of the oil off and then finish with dry microfiber. For tinted windows, I spray distilled water or lightly dampen a microfiber and wipe with that. Then I finish with a dry microfiber to remove the traces of grime left behind.

Removing the oil film decreases the amount of cold weather and wintertime condensation that forms on the inside surface. You've already proved this to yourselves when you saw places on the window that had fingerprints condense up more than clean parts of the windows.

>You can always tell a car that recently had a dog in it if it smells like a sweaty jock strap.

The problem is that when a car regularly has a dog in it, the dog's poopy exposed rear end has been smeared across multiple areas of multiple seats.

This, the last owner of my car had a dog that shed, I'm still finding dog hairs everywhere in it. Had to get kitchen rubber gloves to be able to get the fur out of the back, and it still didn't get all of it. My vacuum wouldn't even pick any of it up. I'm just gonna have to replace all the carpety trim in the cargo area eventually because it won't all come out and I don't have time to pick out thousands of hairs one by one.
>>
>>16419856
>My vacuum wouldn't even pick any of it up.
It takes an agitating brush head to pull hairs out of a carpet. Use of a simple brush attachment on a shopvac won't do it. That's because the agitating brush head is within the vacuum pressure zone whereas the simple brush attachment is not. That makes a difference in pulling out hairs because they don't just spring back so readily when there is a continual vacuum on them as they are agitated.

There are also those angled lint brushes which will also remove some hairs or at least line them up more evenly before you vacuum. Those angled brushes feel bristly to your hand in one direction and smooth in the other direction. Their bristles are angled in one direction to pull out lint and hairs onto the brush. But even if they don't pull all the hairs out, at least they will disentangle a lot of hairs from the carpet nap that his holding them.
>>
>>16421064
Getting all the cargo area paneling from a car in the junkyard will be much less expensive than one of those fancy agitating vacuums. Thanks for the info though.

>what do you use to keep your car smelling fresh if you use some sort of artificial product?

My car always smells "fresh and clean" because it is always clean. That's to say, there is no smell of any kind at all. I use rubber floor mats as those dry quickly unlike a carpet, don't hold dirt and grime like a carpet, and are easy to remove and clean with a water hose if something thick gets on them like mud.

But I do use those clip on scented products similar to the "febreze" package. Many stores sell generic but similar scents and I find those are nice enough to use and much cheaper than febreze. I set them at minimum because they smell too strong otherwise.

I don't like clip ons in the vents. That makes it ridiculously strong in the car because I like driving with the windows up. The trick is to get a piece of cardboard and fold it like ___/\___ and then staple that vertical short bit together. The febreze style dispenser then clips vertically to the side edge. This keeps the febreze style dispenser in the correct vertical position. I then put this underneath the passenger car seat. I put under the seat so that the air vents there don't blow on it. Otherwise it would be too strong smelling.

The febreze style dispenser air fragrances are available at target, walmart, big lots, and even the dollar tree stores.

What's up, Wunderbaumers. I'm from Europe (Eastern, to be more specific) and all of our country's shops offer Wunderbaum Black Classic. And buying Black Ice off Amazon/Ebay costs me around $3 to ship. So, to anyone who tried both, is there any difference in smell? Or is it just named for different markets? I noticed US consumers get Ice, while we don't.

Don't give a fuck 'bout vanilla. Because the smell is "too vanilla" and not exotic. Basically - very base odor that literally included in sweets, ice cream, toilet cleaner and shit. Haven't tried "New Car" neither "Cherry". More interested on Black Classic and Black Ice difference, topic.

I think I'll try vanilla too. Here in the USA, we have something called "dollar stores" where everything is a priced at $1 USD. There are febreze-style car air fresheners in packages of two for $1. Coconut, vanilla, strawberry, cherry, and others. I'll give the vanilla a try since $1 is pretty cheap for two of them.

I change my Black Ice seasonally, and clean my car interior as needed.

If I get a wild hair up my ass, I'll use that spray gun at the car wash that sprays black ice and let that do what it does.

I've been thinking about changing scents, though.

I want something clean, classic, and not too offensive. I was thinking something like a mild cherry, or maybe if they made a direct swisher sweet air freshener to smell like the cigar paper.

The more expensive ones have clips that can fasten onto the air vents. But I don't recommend the vents because that makes the smell too strong. Clip them somewhere else and away from any seat vinyl in case the solvents and oils from the air freshener attack the plastic.

>what do you use to keep your car smelling fresh if you use some sort of artificial product?

I use different ones all the time because variety is good. In trying lots of fragrances, some are hard to mess up whether they be cheap or expensive. Those are lemon, vanilla, strawberry, and coconut. So you can try the cheaper ones from the dollar store instead of walmart to save money if those fragrances are next up on your list.
>>
>>16439367
>I doubt these evaporate enough if you just put one under the seat.

A lot of oil does evaporate and come out of those cans. If you keep the windows up much of the time, that oil won't escape the car but end up depositing somewhere.

I also used the can type under the seat. After pulling the top off, it came with a plastic snap on cover to reduce air hole size. But even that was too strong.

To reduce the amount of fragrance coming out, I cut a piece of cardboard and hole in it. That fit on top of the can nicely. The inner lip of the can stopped the cardboard from dropping into the oily jelly. The plastic top then went back over the can to hold the cardboard in place and I put it back under the seat.

After a week or so I took a look again. The cardboard was dark and wet with the aziotrope oil vapors that had risen from the jelly. That showed to me it was oils that came out of the jelly and not just some light alcoholic scented vapor.

After that, I leave the windows somewhat open or I remove the can and cover it. After I used up the several cans I bought on sale, I didn't get more. Their method uses too much oil compared to the concentrated febreze types.

Rubber carpet maps cover the carpet. This is the number one preventative measure against odors. There's no more grime, mold, or germs growing in the carpet and smelling. The rubber mats are easy to clean. And they make sense in rainy weather.

Using strong smelling black ice is necessary for those posters who continue to not get rid of the sources of strong rotting odors in their car (dirty carpet). If you step even in the dried up homeless person urine and track that to the car's carpet, it will begin smelling and growing germs when it gets wet from your shoes at the next rain. Now you got homeless pee smell in your carpet.

Then all those Ice air freshener users would wonder where I got those.

Baking soda leaves residue. There are better solutions since those old days when baking soda was around.

Either use one of those foam-and-vacuum sprays or better yet one of those spot cleaning portable vacuums. These two approaches try to remove the offending residue, grime, and germs generating the odor.
>>
>>16449260
Residue attracts grime even if it's baking soda residue.

You only need carpet for picky or elitist guests in the car. Use a rubber mat for when there are guests that don't mind seeing a rubber mat. Things will be cleaner. And if people eat, then you need a rubber mat because they always sweep crumbs on them onto the floor to be ground into the carpet with shoes. So use a rubber mat if people eat.

For carpets, frequent regular vacuuming followed reduces the amount of ground-in dirt. That is followed by an occasional spot cleaning vacuum to remove greasy grime or sticky mud poop germs that stick on as a film on all the carpet fiber surfaces that can't be vacuumed off.

To add: If there is smell that cannot be cleaned, and kinda smells like something rotting check that water has not ingressed and has saturated into sound proofing material. I had to ford a pretty dank flood in my Lada and a few days later the front passenger well stunk, to the point where you had to drive with the windows down. The rotten mush that was the soundproofing had to be torn up and replaced and the smell was gone.

Why to some automotive carpets have a massive affinity to dirt and crumbs and are impossible to vaccum whereas domestic carpets are easy to clean?
