I don't get the point of Lincoln as a brand these days.

Not really. They're celebrating record sales thanks to the Chinese.
>>
>>16398580
>Chinese sales

They literally designed the Continental for the Chinese market, and the Chinese model is stripped down in features
>>
Unpopular opinion but.. I think it'd be best if Ford just pulled the plug Lincoln for good. Aside from poor sale numbers, I think that a premium Ford car (like an Explorer, Expedition Platinum, Fusion Vignale as an example) look more upscale than their Lincoln twins. Ford could be good on its own being that diverse brand selling low trim cars to premium cars. Sort of like GMC, their arch nemesis.
>>
>>16398682
>Sales up double digits each year
>2 new models coming out
>Lincoln introducing it's own non Ford platforms
The Continental is outselling the 5 series and the A6

They have no reason to pull the plug
>>
>>16398390
Stealing designs just like ferd
>>
>>16398682

It's not about looks, it's about branding. Hideous cars sell in droves if they're branded properly - just look at Cadillacs.

People who buy Caddys or Lincolns aren't buying them for the looks, they're buying them because it says "I can afford higher monthly financing than my blue-collar neighbour".

That's important to a lot of people, especially if they weren't born into a family with money. You need to know they've married a man with a 6-figure salary. Aside from a shitty attitude and bleach-blonde hair, a Cadillac/Lincoln is the best way to get that message out there.

I know but my point was if Ford can make their cars in """"top notch"""" luxury, there is really no reason for them to keep making cars under the Lincoln name. But now reading your post and >>16398718, i might have a little hope for the brand. my reasoning for killing off the company was a bit vague, should of double checked it.
>>
>>16398826
90% of the Continental concept was unchanged, I imagine the production navigation will be the same
>>
>>16398474

>>
>>16398938

Rich people don't drive domestic """""LUXURY""""" vehicles. Nigger-rich people do.

People with actual money drive shit like Bentleys. Any pleb fuck can afford to finance an Escalade with a few years of careful saving.

Few fucks can afford a Rolls Royce, and they're not financing it either.
>>
>>16399001

I can safely tell you that there are a lot of actually really rich Chinese who buy these monstrosities. The Chinese literally buy cars by the pound - there's a reason why the new Lincoln Navigator is basically the Canyonero made into reality.

The Lambos and Ferrari's are for the children and man-children - women and men are supposed to buy huge as fuck SUV's with the highest price tag they can stomach.

I know it's a decent look but, why does it seem like every car since late '15 is trying so hard to ape this same look? All the major manufacturers are doing it from Kia to Chevy to Lexus to Benz etc...
>>
>>16399081
just fyi there was a massive fuck up in the production of the Lincoln Continentals and a good majority of them had to have new engines swapped into them before they even had one mile on the odometer.

never buy ford or lincoln.
>>
>>16399092
It was new headlights, not engines
Plus the issue is gone, most of them were in transit and were fixed before they were sold
>>
imagine if Ferd tried to produce a domestic sports sedan in the Linconln trim.

Chebby did it with the SS, before they cancelled it. Cadillac did it with the V-Sport models. Why can't Ferd into sports sedans?

The ecoboost Fusion was a nice try but it felt too much like a parts bin car, another Focust ST. All we're going to get is shit Lincoln barges designed for tasteless chinks.
>>
>>16399371
The 2017 Lincoln MKZ can be pretty sporty with a V6 putting out 400 HP. They could take that just a bit farther and make a really neat car out of it.
>>
>>16398474
3 stairs is pretty excessive. Even if its huge its not riding 6 feet off the ground.
>>
>>16399371
Lincoln doesnt do it because it doesn't want to be a performance brand
>>
Being the official cars of grandpas who want to buy American and ghetto families who want to appear rich because they bought a Lincoln from the local "Buy Here Pay Here" lot.

Rich people in my area usually drive European or Asian cars. You're even more likely to see them driving a Caddy or higher trim Chrysler than a Lincoln.

>>16398682
That's exactly why they ended up killing Mercury. Their cars were no different than a higher trim level Ford.
>>
>>16401026
Except that was the point of mercury, to compete with Buick
>>

The best market by far for Lincolns is China. It's also why parts sourcing, production, and assembly was planned to move to China in the near future. That would drastically lower the cost of Lincolns for that brand's main market - China.

Excellent dealer incentives and Ford financial having a lot of free capital due to gouging Chinese buyers, therefore being far more willing than other luxury brands to take risks financing younger buyers on entry level MKZs so that they'll become devoted to the brand and end up buying Navigators once they're older.

>It's also why parts sourcing, production, and assembly was planned to move to China in the near future.

Production of US market Lincolns was never going to be moved to China. Chinese assembly was planned for, and still is planned for vehicles that will be sold in China. Lower labor costs and taxes make it more cost effective for firms to build vehicles in China for the Chinese market than importing them. Lincoln moves enough cars profitably in the US for it to be unnecessary for Ford to import vehicles from China. They already have a plant in Mexico they use for lower priced units too. Hybrid Continentals are planned to be build in China in the future as are the new explorer based crossovers, but these will be vehicles sold in Asia. The US market Continentals will continue to be built in the US to avoid getting hit with import tariffs.

Lincoln is in a weird place right now with their lineup. They have three (3) crossovers: MKC, MKX, and MKT. Why? Who knows. I believe the MKT will be phased out for a new Aviator. Then they have the Navigator (actually competes with the Escalade) and MKZ and Continental, but I don't see who those sedans are supposed to compete with. (That being said, I love the Continental- if you haven't seen it in person, it's massive and comfortable.) Obviously they're more upscale than Fords, but they're a few steps from say BMW/Audi/Lexus. I guess I'd like to see Lincoln sort itself out (and phase out that awful MK naming convention) and find its identity.

They did with the Lincoln LS and it was actually quite good. It was like a cheaper American 5 series alternative for a while.

Ford is apparently messing around with developing two new models off the Mustang S550 platform and I"m really hoping they're going to be Lincolns. A luxury coupe and performance sedan from Lincoln would be awesome. I'd love to see that 400hp tt v6 in a rear wheel drive application.
>>
>>16402983
Correct me if i'm wrong.. But isnt this just a Ford "Lobo Platinum" just rebadged as a Lincoln in Mexico? I looked on some sites and saw no difference between the two, just different front facias. Was there something exclusive to the Mark LT that the F150/Lobo didnt have?
>>
>>16399371

no real reason to, they already have the mustang which sells great and the STs are selling pretty well too. also there isnt a huge sport sedan market, chevy SS sedans are rare and so are cadillac Vs. the only sport sedan that sells well is the charger and thats only thanks to niggers

>Few fucks can afford a Rolls Royce, and they're not financing it either.

Oh yes they are, smart wealthy people barely buy anything with cash and work the credit system hard to their advantage. If you buy a bunch of expensive things on credit with low interest rates and invest all the cash that you didn't spend up front, you'll come out way ahead compared to buying everything with cash.
>>
>>16411930
Hey, someone finally understands! A lot of people with money won't buy something just for the prestige factor. They'll buy something because they personally like it, or because they would rather spend their money elsewhere, or even save it just because they like the stability and ease of mind that excess money brings. Only people without money (or total jerks) think buying things will make them look like better people.

Should have double checked your grammar too. But I admire you being one of the few people on this site that can have a decent reaction to decent.

I agree with you on your previous point though. I think Expeditions and Explorers, especially those """Signature Models"""" look much more upscale than the navigator. This was even more obvious for Mercury, and we know how that turned out.
