Yeah, in the aviation industry at least, all the big paying jobs are with carrier airlines. Unfortunately the working conditions are asshole and you get thrown into the asshole midnight shift.

>car vloggers are proof that mainstream car culture is shit

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=padTbnP1CpM

I'm convinced that the younger generation has no actual interest in auto mechanics. These "enthusiasts" spend more time trying to sell self-branded clothing than they do wrenching. And when they do modify something, it's always cosmetic. Just like computers are slowly become fisher price toys, so too will cars.

That's why i love motorcycles so much. Some people (hipsters) do focus too much on the cosmetics, but you can also get hurt if you don't take it seriously.

The weird thing about SpaceX is they use A&P's as general do everything labor that doesn't require an engineer. Typical aerospace companies will have junior and senior engineers where SpaceX uses engineers (often junior and fresh out of school or have minimal experience, because they're cheaper) for actual engineering and uses A&P's for the handywork at a much lower rate. So you'll find A&P's doing general assembly technician type jobs for low (for an A&P) wages.

I guess the SpaceX theory is that A&P's have a skillset similar enough to aerospace rocket construction that they are useful, and cheaper than aerospace/mechanical engineers to do the simpler jobs. SpaceX is the only spaceflight focused aerospace that employs A&P's so extensively that I know of. I can pretty much guarantee it's a bid to keep production costs down on their 'economical' rockets.

Once upon a time I had aspired to work at SpaceX (mechanical engineer). Then I realized that while less inspiring, working for a utility (PG&E, Edison, DWP, etc.) is both more lucrative and requires almost no work. And I get a company car/gas card for absolutely no reason..

When I was going to UCSD my girlfriend got a job at General Atomics for just north of $20/hr. They hire quite a few fresh out of college STEM majors with lab experience as lab techs.

I also wanted to work at General Atomics, but fell into a comfy Edison job after school and haven't looked back since.

In terms of seeing cool shit/cool shit to do at work everyday, SpaceX takes the cake easily.

In terms of everyday happiness, leisure, and sanity. A more mundane, slower paced, and lucritive job is the answer.

My job is literally to make sure 1.5 million wood utility poles aren't going to fall over. and get people to inspect/replace the one's in danger of falling over.

Company car, company phone, company gas, great pay, and I work from home half the time.

Sorry SpaceX, I'm lazy and I like it.

I didn't know penning 10 page formal essays in crowded lecture halls was such an important part of civic life. I didn't know having them be on controversial topics was so important either. In fact, I've never seen anyone doing that for leisure or employment outside of broadcast and print media.

A liberal arts degree is more of a test of willpower than anything else. If I were running an HR department, I would hire people with degrees over tech certificates just because they imply that people will do anything asked of them no matter how poorly or excellently they can do it, with no qualms about turning in work that might be low quality, offensive, or in any way less than perfect, because everyone gets a C for effort.

Bike has a blown fork seal. Want to have them rebuilt. While in there I want to ahve them revalved. May as well do the shock too while I'm at it.

Is there any cheaper way to go about this than paying the $1100 to Racetech to ahve them do it?

Sure I could do it myself and save $200 in labor but I'd have to buy $150 worth of tools, not really a value proposition.

bearings are cheap and easy to do
brake discs usually last and pads are cheap
chain/sprocket are 100-200 bucks, also easy to do and something you don't do more than 2 times before getting a new bike anyway
only annoying things are shock/forks and valve adjustments

but if everything isn't occuring at once and you don't put maintenance off that shouldn't be too bad. 1000-1500 bucks in maintenance over I'd say 50k km isn't really bad

WR450F is not street legal just like the WR250F. Also the WR450F doesn't have a 6th gear and has terrible maintenance intervals as well, just like the WR250F.

Depends on what bike it is.
MX bikes have shit transmissions for highway speeds (very close ratios).

i had to do a full engine rebuild because the bottom end bearing let go and seized the crank, that was at near 300 hours /15,000km on the engine though and it probably wouldnt have happened if the bike didnt sit without starting for nearly 3 years in storage which rusted the bearings in the engine

>>
>>16394084
13/43
>>
>>16394075
and 100mph is 160km/h.
All that means if you have tall gearing which would make an already underpowered bike even less powerful.

I hate to think how long it takes to get to 160, if you put a smaller sprocket on the front it would top out at 140kmh and get there a few seconds faster than it would have before.
>>
>>16394089
That's the stock bike gearing.

>I hate to think how long it takes to get to 160
Who cares? it's a 250 dual sport. Who rides around at 100mph anyway? Let alone timing how long it takes to get there.

It gets up to 70-75mph faster than traffic and will sit there all day, that's all that matters.

Also it's a 6 gear bike, 1st through 4th are pretty short gears for dat acceleration.
>>
>>16394087
Try 12/45.
It will cut 10mph off your top speed and give you a hell of a lot of acceleration.

If you use 3rd your starting gear you could regear the bike so 2nd is equivelent to your original third gear, then ahve an additional gear at the top for cruising and still have first as a shorter gear.

If you are riding off road at all you need mx boots, think about it like this, half the time when you come off even when going slow the bike will may land on you and when it does its entire weight might hit your foot though the foot peg and i don't think your foot would look very pretty afterwards if you had combat boots on.

"I turned the Beemer around and started back - and Dave appeared. It turns out that the radiator of his Kawasaki had completely clogged with the mud of the Haul Road, leaving his bike to overheat. The on-board computer, sensing the temperature rising cleverly shifted the bike to a limp home mode. This is actually a neat feature, you are slowed down to where a chasing wolf could catch you, but you keep sputtering and moving. And we hoped that the temps were contained to a point where the engine would sustain no damage.

The grades on the South end of the Dalton are steep - even when pavement is reached - for the run into Fairbanks, there are a lot of grade changes.

I let Dave ride ahead - but he was moving slowly - I trailed with my flashers on. We eventually reached a restaurant and I was able to wheedle some buckets and access to their outside faucet - Dave tossed 6 or so buckets of water into the radiator trying to flush out some of the baked in mud, but this was really a job for a high pressure washer. And a stack of quarters. The water did however cool the bike sufficiently so regular riding speeds were regained. We reached Fairbanks, found a car wash and he blew his clogged radiator clean.

The BMW was a bit dirty and benefited from being hosed down as well."

Sad but true post. There's a sweet spot with bikes
>between 10-30k miles
>between 5-15 years old
>preferably one owner
You still get an incredibly reliable machine, but someone has already taken over 50% of the depreciation, and you are well within the design/maintenance intervals where you won't get random breakages and overhauls. Plus it's still pretty easy to sell a bike with 30k miles because there's still some life left in it.

On that, I find that my ownership per bike keeps getting longer and longer. When you start out you want to test and own as many bikes as possible, after a few years you pretty much have the novelty of memebikes worn of, and you know what you want. That's where you can highmile one bike and it becomes like a trusted friend over time.

thoughts on the Z750? They go for rather cheap here (sub 3000€ with under 20k kms and around 2005) i heard it's rather heavy but has a lot of torque

Why are these bikes so plentiful in the used motorcycle market in Switzerland and so cheap? Is there any problem with these bikes?
>>
>>16394511
they were shit
>>
>>16394516
In what way?
>>
>>16394511
the swiss used bike market is so damn fucked, bikes that are like 1500€ here cost around 4000 francs, I mean, how in the hell does that work?
>>
>>16394524
Not at all. Those all cost around 2k-3k depending on the amount of KMs. Also higher salaries.
>>
>>16394476
literally a god bike, they're way faster than all the 600s.
downside: they have too many gears for a beginner to learn on, you're going to be shifting up and down too often
>>
>>16394295
why did you take a bike on loan?
I feel sad for you anon
just stop paying and let them repo it
>>
>>16394538
I'm not a beginner, and wouldn't you have to shift them a lot less than its 600 counterparts, because it has around 15 more Nm torque?
>>

Excuses are for losers.
>>
>>16394511
All BMW bikes are trash. But high purchase prices and high service costs make idiots think they are quality bikes.
