Anyone else got some ambitious projects on the go?
Currently rebuilding my first ever car, a '73 beetle. Think a 400% increase in power should be enough for now.

Making some ballast mounts for my chink HID kit

What are you putting in it?
Pic related, my bae

gonna laff when you come on here crying about how you rolled the thing down a cliff while turning into pizza hut.
Plan is to race it in comp-safari here in the UK, i'll be competing against modified landys and milners for the most part.
307sbc, TH350, reverse rotation T-case, Impreza R180 diffs, Hilux hubs and uprights, Honda Civic steering rack. I'll be making my own wishbones and subframes.
Built the entire chassis from scratch, both the box and floorpans are 3mm thick, weight not being that much of a priority over absolute strength.
The original chassis is long gone, with the body cut above the heater channels, then welded to the chassis. Would have been nice to keep it bolt-apart separate, but the thing was just way too rotten.

Looks like a challenging project. Where are you putting the radiator? I'm guessing in the spare tire bay up front?
>>16389525
Fuel tank up front, purely to balance the engine and box. The tyres are a bit big to fit under the front sadly.
I'm hoping to mount the radiator behind the rear window, seen the big ass drag wings for the bug?

This sort of thing.

Please document the whole project and make it /o/'s project binky.

What would be the practical purpose of this?
>>16389463
looks to be a Mopar... 318 small block? It looks like Mopar orange, and with 50hp or so stock that means a 400% increase is around 250. I believe that's roughly what is to be expected from a 318 so if memory serves correctly that would be it. OP?
Looks really cool anon, good luck
>>16389556
you could try something a bit more practical though,

The wing? Or the rad mounted there?
That style of wing, although i guess it's technically a spoiler, is pretty common on drag cars, and is highly functional. As a bonus for aircooled cars, it rams air into the fan intake.

I get that it is functional on drag cars, but you mentioned that you'll be doing comp-safari right? Is it still effective then, considering the lower speeds you'll be doing?

Hey sorry, didnt notice your first post. It's a 307 small block, came out of a '69 chevelle. Not the wildest of engines, but in the UK anything that's not a 350 goes cheap. Picked up the engine/box/converter/carb all together for £500. And i suspect 200bhp will me more than enough on dirt.

Wish i had the patience to be able to document it. I lost my job in june, so the thing is coming along at a fair rate, a hell of a lot faster than binky.
On the subject of binky, does it bother anyone else that they're going through all that fabrication, and then SPOT welding everything together. Seems a waste

Ah, i'm with you.
No, im planning on mounting the radiator in that position, with a pair of fans pulling underneath. The beetle gets pretty good airflow over the back, so hopefully i wont have heat issues. Keeps it nicely out of the way of trees too. Looking at other comp-safari cars, they all seem to have rear mounted rads too, and they're all running rover(buick) or BMW v8's
