Has anyone successfully improved the NVH qualities of their car? I know tires can make a big difference. But I mean cutting down on wind noise and road noise at higher speeds. Hatchbacks really have road noise issues. It would be nice if I could just stick some sound-deadening foam or something similar around all the wheel well areas.

Look up the archived /o/ thread on sound deadening your car. See the specific post at:

No, a floating barrier doesn't work. It must be adhered to the metal in order to dampen the amplitude of the vibrations being transferred.

Why don't cars just have this to begin with? If regular joes can add it themselves, surely car companies do it cheaper during the manufacturing process.

a lot of european companies do this for some time now.
a US ford focus and a EU ford focus can have some really big differences
>>16391354
they could, but why do it when the sound levels cars make are acceptable enough currently that the cars still sell.

Ford knows what they can sell to an American vs what they can sell to a European.
t; It's not flattering to the American

So is this something that you can just do in your garage yourself? I never heard about this and it sounds like it would useful for newer Mazda 3s and other econoboxes that suffer from a lot of road noise
