I am considering buying a coworkers 1993 Lumina sedan with a 3.1 for $800. It has 191k miles. I drive about 20 miles round trip to work and back a day. What are common problems with these cars aside from the interior quality? Or am I better off looking for something else?
>>
looks for something else I had one of those and it was the worst car I ever had

the 3.1 is a piece of shit

then again if its lasted that long maybe its been well cared for and all the problem shit has been replaced

still I wouldnt take the risk

just get a Civic or Corolla

Just don't overheat it not even a little, I have a small junk yard and literally every 3100 engine car I have was junked due to cracked heads....but besides that they are tuff as hell I sold one with 300k miles a couple years ago

I got a 3.1 that has over 225k on it, and it still runs.

we don't drive it anymore so it just sits

it's the minivan version of the lumina

and I abused the shit out of it for years.

It's '90s GM. Almost as bad as '90s Chrysler. Almost.

Turn 360 degrees, moonwalk away, and buy a Corolla or Civic.

z34 is good though guise

This. The Z34 model is great but they take a special kind of owner to deal with that 3.4L DOHC V6 engine. The timing belt needs to be replaced every 60k. Aside from that and the alternator that goes every 30k (Alternator replacements cost ~$750 to have a mechanic replace it and too much time to do it yourself. Ask me how I know), it's a fairly bulletproof high revving screamer of a V6.
It wasn't unheard of for 5 speed manual Z34's to beat down Camaro Z28's and IROC-Z's at the drag strips.
>>
My girlfriend drives a '97 Lumina.
I fucking hate her car. Everything about it is difficult. Maintenance is a complete fucking nightmare.
>>
>>16366166
what do you mean? The 3100's are a piece of cake. The only thing slightly troubling is getting to the rear spark plugs. If it was the 3.4 DOHC, I could understand your bitching, but the 3100 is cake to work on.
>>
>>16366175
Well, it probably really has more to do with the fact that the car has been poorly maintained for years.
So, every problem presents itself. Every nut is rusted tight. Every connector breaks when moved. If something can possibly go wrong and render an hour's work into a day-long affair, it definitely will.
>>
>>16366236
that's the power of shit maintenance, but overall, accessibility for everything is pretty good.
