I lease but I did buy my sports car from a private seller.

I like leasing.
I have the credit and cash flow to do it. I started with a 2011 Camry, then a 2014 Lexus, and in 4 months when I take the Lexus back I'm going to get a BMW. I like getting a brand new car every 3 years as well as never having to worry about mechanical issues. On both of my previous leases they came a 2 year maintenance free plan. All fluid changes and tire rotations were 100% free. I already have my sports car so the lease car is strictly for work.

Private dicks are pretty much the same as stealerships. You have to find good ones that flip cars for a living, otherwise lets say you will have to use that extended warranty before you ever pick it off the lot.

I don´t know how the law is in the US, but in Finland dearlerships are under consumer protection laws. Cars bought from a private seller are bought "as is". So, if the dealership sells you shit, they´re in trouble with the law. On top that, I live in smallish town(about 70K), so if a dealership decides to screw a customer, they can kiss their business goodbye. Everyone will know what they have done. That´s why I buy from dealerships and also because usually I trade in my old one.
You usually do get better prices from a private seller, but you have higher chance to get shit in your hands.
