Really any volvo turbo in the 240,940, or 740, series will do you pretty right. Any 240 under 84 doesnt not have an intercooler and runs at 5 lbs of boost, adding one can raise it to 10 safley. Most early 80s 240s had a bosch k-jet fuel system that is a little more difficult then the later electronic system but once you figure out how it works its not that bad, not old bmw levels of complex anyway. Just start reading up on them and go from there.

The Miata actually isn't that good of a drift car. The geometry is 'too good' so-to-speak when it comes to gripping/handling which isn't productive when you're intentionally trying to kick out the back
