Those miles are an estimate but it does say that when you bought it in June it had 35,993 (36k) but it was taken into maintenance in November and it has 39k. Carfax is using those two number (36k and 39k) to give an approximation of the current mileage, unless the car has not been driven.

A good start would be to make sure the engine is good. so, If the engine makes weird noises or feels like it doesn't want to go believe it or not for a 90s toyota it will still run for at least 50k more miles. If you don't heard those things during the extensive test drive then follow the three steps below to keep the engine in good conditions. Also, maybe read the sticky there is a guide for test driving and negotiating.

Basically, just maintain it at or before recommended mile intervals set by the manual. My dad has a 2000 rx300 with 320k and this is what we do...
1. use the right oil/liquids (read the manual)
2. keep the oil/liquid levels 1/4 to 1/2 inch above the max mark or at least topped off to the max mark
3. Every once in a while (as much as you can) use the highest end gas to clean the shit 89 fuel leaves on an engine with 300k+ miles

He works in construction and drives to different locations everyday, on average driving 150 miles round trip and then some. Everyday. for like 5 years. at least 54,000 per year.

Is that documented or is that just your guess because it changed owners. I ask because MB safeties are good for 1 year regardless of whether it changes owners.
