I nominate the K24A4 and VQ35DE as god tier because they're still modern as fuck and kick ass even today.

the Hyundai Beta II is just as capable as this motor and it's far older

but you won't talk about that because the korean reliability meme still hangs on

I know the K24A4 isn't the most representative of the K series, but is was really good in the inexpensive hondas it came in, it's only 10 hp less than a hyundai 2.7 V6 and it's more efficient.

12.5:1 on a k24a2 block.
modified k20a2 oil pump
pistons and rods are the last thing I'm deciding on. May be boring it out to 88mm, still have to do some research on that. Once I pull the trigger on those (next week or two), I'll be ready to go.
k20z3 underdrive
k20z3 oil cooler
k20z3 cylinder head
probably have it ported along with the rbc manifold when the block goes in to be bored.
drag cartel 3.2's (was looking for more of a "road race" cam rather than something for the strip - milder lift specs on the intake side compared to the 4's and 4.5's)
supertech 92 lb dual spring valve train
valves are skunk2, but stock spec
rdx injectors, I think the stock fuel pump will be fine

Also currently running things like hondata img, hybrid racing cold air intake, s2 alpha series header and 3 inch exhaust. And exedy stage 1 clutch with the hf02 flywheel

So about 7 grand in and I should be able to make very close to 300 whp with a tail wind in my honda civic fucking kill me kek. Dyno numbers are pretty arbitrary, but I have seen people hitting 290's on 3.2's with the k24a2 head and builds less complete than mine. If I could put down anywhere between 60-80whp of gains I would be pretty happy.

It's been a really fun project though and I've learned an assload about cars in the process. If you're in the midwest, maybe someday we can run em. 9th gen s/c vs. 8th gen frankenstein would be a pretty sick matchup

Ldt-465-1c. Not built for power, but rather for insane operating conditions. Will run on any fuel you have. Gasoline, motor oil, hydraulic fluid, veggie, diesel, jet fuel, lp, kerosene, and a bunch of other shit. It also carries a 22:1 compression ratio and has a small turbo (only in boost, damn thing weighs 47 lbs). It will run clean at elevations of up to 18k feet with no measurable power loss. Has 3 sets of fuel water separation filters, 2 sets of oil filters, 6 poppit injectors that never require tuning, and can be found from 130 hp in the ldt series, to 410 hp in the lds series.

Military put them in the deuce and a half and the 5 ton truck. It's built by White tractor company originally but the military cranked up the compression. Is there any tuning potential in the VQ35DE short of forced induction?

Looking at getting an 03-05 G35 coupe next year since I'm an Infiniti lube monkey and aside from everyone there knowing how to take the entire car apart as well as access to every diagnostic tool I'd ever want, anything I learn to do on it immediately translates to knowledge usable on the job. I heard the GTR is based on the same chassis, could I put GTR parts on it if I wanted?

pic related has the Honda K24 in it, it's about the most gutless shitbox I've ever had the misfortune of driving, here at 5400' altitude where I live it's borderline dangerous how slow it is. it also burns 2-3 quarts of oil between changes and the transmission is straight up retarded. combine that with the Little Tykes-quality interior and assortment of electrical issues I've had, I'd rate this shitbox a solid 3/10. I love my AAN, it puts a smile on my face every time I turn the key. Really great engine, my favorite engine I have ever had the pleasure to drive even though its not the fastest (yet).

Once I pass emissions once more then I am done with emissions for good. Once that happens I will be cutting the cats out, bigger fuel pump, probably bigger injectors just to stay safe and a stage 1+ chip for 21-23 psi of boost which will be just about maxing out the k24. That is as far as I plan on taking the K24, should be around 280whp from what I have read.

Probably will go RS2 spec after that and shoot for a little less then 400whp but that is pretty far into the future still.

yea thats true for the used market

funny thing is I have a Polo Gti 1.8 tsi gen3 DSG

basicly its software limited on power because the sensors are reading that the temps are low and its not safe.
The car felt like it has 100hp instead of the stock 200hp.
Also when you abruptly shut of the engine it will emit a buzzing sound for the next five or so minutes. Its the pumps working and cooling the turbo

Saab H engine.
Specifically the B234 model - shit is ridiculously strong and reliable and just loves to be beat on.

There's also the benefit of the Direct Ignition system and the Trionic engine management that used the spark plugs as fucking sensors, eliminating all knock and making it possible to run ion basically any combustible fuel ever.
You can throw fucking 80 RON into the tank, along with a bunch of E85 and the engine will not fucking knock.

>'Ion' comes from the fact that it uses ion current measured by the spark plugs between combustion events as a sensor for knock, misfire and synchronization detection. With the ion sensing system, the ion current stream developed due to combustion can be deduced by monitoring the secondary current of the ignition coil. Using the value and wave shape of the current, after the actual spark event, the quality of the actual combustion process is determined, thus allowing the engine control unit to optimize the timing of the spark for the best engine performance while keeping emissions low on a much wider range of rpms.

Fucking magical Swedes.

Is that the engine from the older S40 T5s? Those have a ton of torque down low and die up top. My entire family thinks its faster than the 9-2x Aero just because it feels so quick around town. What they don't know is my old Volvo B52 is faster than both. All the old volvo modulars and the redblocks are awesome.

Holy shit is it just me or does every Rotofag get hyper defense about "MUH SPECIAL MAINTENANCE" or "EASY MAINTENANCE".

A Mazda rotor engine IS NOT MADE TO LAST. You're lucky if you can push at least 100k out of it, but going beyond on normal maintenance doesn't fucking exist. Shit horsepower ratings, shit torque, shit fuel economy, shit reliability, those engines are just not made to last. Fuck mazda and their rotary piece of shits, if you claim you have a 120k mi+ RX with no issues, you are definitely lying

>05 RX8 with 120k

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqCh0IPdWj8
>>
>>16389776
Yeah, but this was the early 90's.
This was the first car to use ion sensing and even nowadays, many cars use a site flex sensor or knock sensor instead, which doesn't automatically adjust ignition timings.
The difference being a Flex sensor will detect the fuel mix and either select the right tune or heavily retard the engine, and a knock sensor will only detect knock after the knock has happened.
Ion sensing, through the spark plugs means that you can PREVENT all knock from happening and that the car will run on anything combustible.

SAAB was the first and they were the best.

Also, that variable displacement turbo V8 that SAAB pioneered with telescopic con rods, I really wish GM hadn't killed that I'm favour of a boring V6.
The NA prototype made 300HP from less than 4L of displacement.

It's actually 160 lb/ft faggots
>>
>smooth power with excellent torque curves
>very reliable will run without oil, blown heads and or exhaust manifold; still chugging on in africa and eastern europe, and middle-east
>easy to work on with millions of parts readily available
>will run on any fuel
>forged internals from factory with outstanding build quality

this engine is the one of the best ever made. my aunt owns a w126 she bought for 400 bucks literally never maintained it -- all i ever did was add water and coolant i felt so bad for the car -- it is still running with minimal maintenance. i want to take it from her and fix it up... she refuses because it has never left her down.

You can, but this isn't recommended - it's basically a loosely tuned diesel engine, so running straight gas through the injector pump will damage it over time due to a lack of sufficient lubrication.

>"hemi"
>The Hemi-6 is a pushrod O.H.V. (overhead valve) engine, with combustion chambers comprising about 35% of the top of the globe. This creates what is known as a low hemispherical shaped chamber. Although the Hemi-6 does not contain truly hemispherical combustion chambers, the "Hemi" moniker was used primarily for its marketing cachet based on the reputation of Chrysler's 1950s-1970s (true) Hemi V8 engines.
I think Chrysler Australia was snorting a lot of powdered glass in the 60s and 70s.
