if you have no idea where it went then most likely a previous owner did the kickdown delete.

The kickdown on a c6 is on the same shaft as the shift linkage(driver side), The vacuum modulator is on the passenger side. Look close at that pic, you'll see a shaft that protrudes outside of the shift lever, that's where the kickdown should have went(I deleted it).

You don't have to run a kickdown, and they only really kick down below 45mph I think anyway, and that's only at WOT. You do however need to keep the vacuum modulator unless you run a full manual valve body. This controls the shift timing and shift hardness just like what >>16348632 said.
>>
>>16348831
My dad used to talk about the olds rocket 88 he had, was that what they called the engine, I remember him saying how fast it was.
>>
>>16348838
I'll check. It's weird. When the transmission is cold, of you are sitting at about 36mph (I have 4.11s) while going up an incline at part throttle the transmission will flutter between gears. Is this something to worry about?
>>
>>16348889
Yeah the engine is called the Rocket. The model of car was the 88. Oldsmobiles were some of the coolest cars around back in the 50s and 60s
>>
>>16348895

Has the nightmare HT4100 which has NOT (knock on wood) given me any trouble, I bought it from an old guy who always used the coolant pellets that take up the slack for the aluminum block. 150k miles. A lot of people blew these up at 20k 20 years ago. I'm proud of her. Winter car, FWD.

>>
>>16352219
The only reason I have one is to talk car stuff with car guys.

I did a bit of math and, adjusted for inflation, the '78 Lincoln I'd want would have cost $57,421.28. I love the cars, but I would never pay that much for one. I'd never pay more than $15,000.00 for an absolutely perfect example, either.

On a similar note, my Excalibur was almost $100,000.00 when new; adjusted for inflation.

Fuck Hagerty!

I tried getting classic car insurance and I liked their youtube videos and what they were doing for classic cars. At least it looks like they are interested in the hobby.

>I fill out a fucking essay and a shit ton of questions
>Have to take a picture of car
>Meet all criteria, excellent driver
>Have to submit an application, and they will get back to me later.

So a little back story. I live in Los Angeles, CA. We have no winter, it rains maybe 1 day out of the year (jk.) and I daily my (2) motorcycle(s) every day of the week since traffic is so atrocious. I just have a classic for the occasional weekend I don't want to be a stay at home autist.

>Hagerty asks me if I have any other vehicles that I could daily
>Tell them my motorcycles...
>They tell they can't insure me because I need to have a daily driveable cage.
>wtf? What kind of bullshit is that. I understand fly over states can't daily a motorcycle, but I can ride my bicycle to work if I wanted to.

I had 2 classic cars that I wanted to insure too... Fuck those bitches.
>>
>>16352838
Every major insurance company has Classic car specific policies. Grundy is the other classic car insurancd company I can think of. Who insures your motorcycle regularly?

USAA for one. The other is Progressive under written by USAA. Progressive's classic car insurance is underwritten by Hagerty and I got sent there only to get denied.

So I went back to USAA and got approved same day with just a VIN. No pictures required or a million stupid questions. Insurance pisses me off sometimes. They are essentially all in bed with each other for the most part.

So I just looked more into it and apparently USAA offers classic car insurance too. It is underwritten by American Collectors and it is half the price Hagerty was quoting me ($118). The weekend of Dec 10th and 11th was chaotic in my area, we got ~2 ft of snow in two days which hasn't happened in many years here, but since then we've made it back above 0° and the snow has started melting. Winter in the Fraser Valley is always a shit show, the weather isn't even close to as extreme as most parts of Canada, but because we're so used to easy winters nobody ever prepares for the season, and when they do sneak up on us the entire area becomes a warzone. This morning I hit three patches of black ice on the way to work, first time this year, going to be taking it slow today.

Alright boys, here's the story of how I got my 1977 Ford F-150 Custom.
>be me, 16 years old and got drivers licence a month before this
>dad got a call about someone who wanted to clean their recently dead brother's house out
>alright, we'll come over and check it out
>first thing I see when we pull in this driveway is a '77 ford in vista orange just sitting there(pic is truck at start of build)
>they've also got 2 conversion vans, a 1969 ranger that was too far gone, and a fucking bus.
>alright, we agreed to take all the tires if we get everything for free
>first thing home is the 1977 Ford. At this point I've basically claimed it as my truck. I'm going to fix this
>they couldn't find the title for it because the house had about 50 cats living in it and all paperwork was basically junk
>well, I think im basically fucked on this truck
>"anon, I called the state and we can get a title! its called a bonded title.
>alright, now I got a title after about 8 months
>need a motor. I know someone with an old motorhome with a 460 in it
>got a motor after doing a trade with him
>take motor mounts and fabricate them to work on truck
>trans is fucked though
>dad take trans from motorhome and swaps tailshafts because i would fuck something up
>do some bodywork on it
>take the 38 gallon take and put it on
>all the lines are perfectly fine after sitting for 20 years
>now it runs and drives perfectly fine
>recently got a edelbrock carb for it

by the way, the person whose yard we cleaned out was a real bitch. Scrap prices were really low. They wanted us to pay after we agreed to take the tires with everything. We refused because we had a deal. They then accused us of stealing some steel that their friend took while we were there and a garden tiller. We have no clue what happened to it.

Good news! The ferd has heat for the first time in at least 15 years. It actually works really well, but this blower motor is louder than shit
>>
What's the talk about Baby Boomer's ruining classic cars for the younger crowd, can somebody explain it to me?
>>
>>16362815
"Artificial" demand. Boomers typically covet the cars of their youth, do they all buy then, creating demand which increases the price as supply is limited. From there the younger generations can't afford the desirable classics so they lose interest.

I think it's a crock of shit though because if you want a vintage car you'll just buy one.
>>
>>16362815
A big part of it is that boomers only want CERTAIN cars; making a lot of the fun cars more difficult to afford. For example, it's VERY difficult to find a decent Mopar with a 440; even sedans are rare. If it has a 454, price almost doubles. They also indiscriminately destroyed 4-door sedans and made them more challenging to restore. There's a lot more to it, but the jist of it is they destroyed a LOT of potentially great first classic cars.
>>
>>16362815
I think classic cars getting exported to other countries creates some problems too.
>>
>>16363007
nah, if someone is going to pay that much to get the damn thing shipped over there, it's going to be a pristine example, i.e. not something you're going to be able to afford in the first place.

There's still plenty of old cars out there.

>>
>>16362960
There is a lot of untapped territory when it comes to 50s cars though. Boomers basically only Care about Early Birds, vettes and Chevies. You can get some really cool cars for reasonable prices. Fords of the era are pretty common yet they aren't as popular as the chevies. Square birds are objectively the best thunderbird and you can get good ones for sub 5k prices
>>
>>16363054
Thunderbirds are always a good choice
>>
>>16363054
Mid 60s slab sided Thunderbirds are hot AF, yet don't command a premium. Also the ford crown vic from the era is cheap as well. I just wish chevy ii were not so fucking expensive now

He sold it to a classic car dealership in Sherman, TX around 2011, and it sold in 2014. I started posting about it on various Chevy/GMC sites trying to find the current owner, and a police officer sent me the info on the current owner.

The current owner... Ugh. I told him how I lost my dad, all the family history behind the truck, and he turned around and said "not for sale, but I'd take $30k." I know he bought it for anywhere between $8-12k. I know for sure he's jacking the price up due to how badly I want it back.

So I'm going to save up, sell what I don't need (the Gran Torino, some other stuff etcetc) and try and get $20k going. That truck is easily worth $15. My dad babied it.

Somehow (I actually suspect sabotage) the 3 wing nuts on my rochester q-jet all undid themselves and neatly laid themselves on my intake manifold, my choke adjustment was thrown wide open, air fuel fucked with and idle screw slowed down while I was away for 2 months. Yea I'm the same guy, I actually ended up taking it into a shop not long after because the flexplate was grinding on the starter ever so slightly which I had misdiagnosed as a cracked flexplate. I respect them trying to buy it; it's the lowball offers that really piss me off.

I'm not selling my Imperial for $2,000.00 or your "more than generous" offer of $2,500.00. While we're at it, My DeLorean is NOT a $5,000.00 car.

If someone were to make a serious offer, I'd be happy to entertain it, but to lowball me when I'm not selling it and get angry that I won't accept it makes me want to crack them upside the head with my tire iron.
>>
>>16365137

Probably. I already have a c6 in it though and I have the towers to swap a small block in, and a 302 is the cheapest way to make some hp.

You have the smallblock pattern c6, if you went to an FE 390, you'd need the FE bellhousing c6, if you went to big block 351m/400/429/460, you'd need the big block bellhousing c6.
>>
>>16372862
Yeah that's why I'm going with a 302.

Down the road, when I need more power, I'll git gud and get a 351 windsor and some decent heads.

The hardest part ive already taken care of, which are the motor stands for a small block Ford/ Cleveland/ modified motor. No one makes reproduction ones so you have to pull them off a donor. I looked for about 2 years before I finally found a pair. Got them for a steal too, $70.

The motor stands for my 300 are actually the same as Fe ones so if I decide to go that route down the road I don't have to change to much.
>>
>>16372862
I've got a question though, if I'm swapping from the 300 to 302 do I need to put a new starter in our can I reuse my current one that's a year old

there's two bolt and three bolt ford starters, so you'll need to check. If you're hopping up your 302 and bumping the compression even a bit then you'll have trouble starting the engine when it's hot, it'll crank so god damn slow and be putting alot of stress on the stock starter. I took the starter from my old 250 i6 maverick and put it on my 400, slow cranking when hot, and eventually killed the thing altogether.

get a high torque mini starter.

>>
>>16374099
When you shut your engine off it'll start heat soaking, which will in turn heats up the starter, there's also the fact that the engine will also be turning over slower since it's hot and all the clearances tighten up. None of these things are conducive to a fast spinning engine with that old ford starter.

I'd consider 3800 an absolute steal for such a car here in Europe even if it only has the base engine and the paint is beyond saving, but until it gets here you have to add ~1500 for shipping and then another third on top of it all for important and VAT; and in the end you're on the painful side of seven grand.

Might be worth it still, would make a fun little cruiser that would be a big attention grabber over there. The problem with early Tempests is it would be much harder to track down parts for a lot of the engines they came with and the transaxle/suspension since that is unique to the car. A first gen Nova would be easier to deal with, but they have gone up in price a lot. I bought mine for $3k in the early 2000s in perfect shape
