talk me out of buying a 78 280 s class
>>16348721
>big car
>smallest engine
this is not a good formula.
>>16348728
0-60 in 9ish seconds which isn't TOO bad
i'm not looking for stock speed here
>>16348732
Still. Get a 450 unless you're a eurocuck.
>>16348721
>If you can't afford a new S-Class then you can't afford an old S-Class
It's the rule of thumb.
>>16348756
>hurr durr can't afford 100k s class
>can't afford a 10k one either
Yea nah
>>16348747
i would if i could find any
>>16348785
>10k
more like 4k
which is around 6k in america bucks
>>16348756
If I could afford a new one, why would I buy an old one.
That saying could have a lot more meaning if it was. "Can't afford a new mercedes, don't buy and old one"
Because thats more like it. Buying a new C-class or an old S-class.
>>16348808
well older s classes are no where near as complicated as the new ones so maintenance and upkeep shouldn't be too expensive
>>16348818
>he believes this
>>16348821
>no turbos
>no useless electronics
>no SPORTMATIC(tm) transmission
>>era of the legendary tank
>>16348832
that's not an S-class first of all
secondly you're retarded
>no useless electronics
fucking kek, just wait til you discover vacuum operation
>era of the legendary tank
maybe the diesel w123 yeah
>>16348818
>>16348785
fucking tards
>>16348756
this is a perfectly reasonable rule of thumb. OP if you're dead set on it for whatever fucking reason, buy the absolute cleanest low mileage one you can find. Which you won't because you're poor. So you'll have a shitheap that runs for a few days. Then you won't be able to afford to keep it on the road, and it will sit in your yard or be scrapped.
honestly just get an LS400 or CrownVic or something, even a w123 is a good choice if you're set on an old merc
>>16348756
>t. a person who doesnt own an s class
fucking dumb, so if you can't afford a 100k ranch house, you can't afford a 10k trailer? poorfag detected, quit being poor
>>16349099
>never maintained an old German car
Plebeian, please. Grown-ups are talking, please refrain from commenting.
>>16349132
pharmfag here, currently own a w140 S500, can definitely afford it while not being able to afford a brand new s-class.
I owned a 560SEL and it was a PITA to keep it running. Everything starts blowing, vacuum are a pain to work through, nothing but electrical gremlins
>>16349422
Why didn't you lease a new one with a warranty?
>>16349480
>leasing a car
>>16349767
>financing
>>16349829
Just fucking buy a car you can afford or save until you can afford it.
Fucking seriously, this isn't rocket science.
