Building a killer PC will only run you ~$2k tops if you actually do 5 minutes of research and shop around. Used to help people with builds all the time in /g/'s PC building general.

A car downpayment can and should be way more. I'd go with that first, you can get your finances back for a PC in no time.

Build a mid-grade PC and buy a decent shitbox outright.

Here in 2016. You could do this. They have gotten a rather decent price to performance recently.

Both funboxes and computers.

My suggestion: Buy a decent gpu (gtx1060/rx480), and car now, wait for Zen while you recoup funds. It's really looking worth the wait at this point.
