It's no veloster turbo that thing is a beast, but it's probably better then the bus you ride. 155 HP and 150ftlbs of torque, think you could handle it?
>>
>>16326102
I looked it up.
>In 1987, the Honda Civic was significantly redesigned for model year 1988. The suspension had a radical re-configuration with what Honda called "double-wishbone suspension" on all four corners, wheelbase was increased to 98.4 inches (250 cm), and the body was redesigned with a lower hood line and more glass, giving less drag. Rear suspension however is more accurately described as multi-link trailing arm suspension since the upper control arm only has a single anchor and there is toe control used on the main trailing arm.
>>
>>16326175
I read that too. Now where does it list the suspension design for all years?

Took a better look under there and some of the bolts just straight up fell out. Advance Auto has a replacement gasket so I'll pick one up plus some new bolts and nuts. It's still leaking a bit at the header to downpipe flange, though. The new exhaust manifold gasket works great.

Right now the car sounds like my old exhaust, except under my feet instead of out the back.

Should I get my car vinyl wrapped white? Or should I get my hood wrapped in white and the rest of my car polished and waxed

Or should I just save up for a total body paint correction?
Is this paint fixable with a polish and wax? Besides the hood?
>>
>>16330595
hard to tell from that picture but paint looks fine on the rest of the car. maybe could use a buff if there still is clear on it. As far as wrapping etc you might as well just get the hood painted for the money or hit up a junkyard.

Waste of money. Just take the hood off, prep it, then go get it sprayed.

Wrapping is not for shitboxes.
>>

Cheapest way would be to get yourself some honda touchup paint. cut buff polish as long as clear is still there

Otherwise I'd go for doors on respray of same color. Love that chassis and color so I'm biased

>>
>>16330780
If I remember it was about $200 shipped with bulbs. Way better than OEM if you don't want to fuck with DIY retrofitting. Retrofitting is pretty expensive.

I had glass issues too but it turns out my tail gate was all cut up from the inside and the latch was dangling. Take off the plastics on the tailgate and see how the hatch looks.

bleed coolant
make sure injectors are good
make sure plugs and wires are good

>>
>>16331974
Stays rich? Coolant temp sensor, that's not hard to fix.
>>
>>16333684
Did a head gasket and the coolant is fresh and air free. Haven't changed the plugs and wires yet so might be possible. No idea about injectors but the idle will bounce depending on the weather so I'm thinking it's intake related.
>>
>>16333751

have you considered going through the idle reset procedure? Could it be possible you are idling at a non-ideal mixture

consider using the bleed screw for the coolant if you have one just to double check

It's probably not injectors

Also, are you burning oil?
>>
>>16333975
Not sure if I tried that or not. I did the ECU reset though. Oil burns very very slowly though the filter on the valve cover is turning black so the lost oil is probably just going through there.

Idle when it isn't bouncing is around 1500 to 1600.
>>
>>16334388
for one, its possible vac leak or idle screw way too high. not sure for that motor but a lot of hondas should idle at 750 +- 50

filter on valve cover showing oil means lots of blowby. piston rings are probably fucked or cylinder walls are scored. Either one can be a cause of bad idle because motor isnt pulling air the way it should be
>>
>>16334568
Although, check your PCV first

Idle reset involves unplugging IACV. the procedure is in the FSM
>>
>>16334568
>>16334592
I do remember one thing that happened. Way back when the idle was perfect one of the wires attached to the IACV plug fell out. Went to reach for it without turning the car off and it sparked on the manifold. Hasn't been normal since then. I did get it lower by plugging a vacuum nipple on the bottom of the manifold though.
>>
>>16334620
IACV is part of one of the main 12v circuits supplied from the ECU. Are you sure that the IACV is operating correctly? Do you have a volt meter you can use to check the plug going to the IACV?
>>
>>16334620
Think there is another nipple that needs to be plugged? I need to take a closer look at it.

>>16334653
I have one at home and can check after work. I'm thinking either electrical or vacuum is causing it.

It's a side effect of lowering an EG. The upper control arms will bang into those points so they have to be cut to make room for the arms to move. Another option is to weld more metal into it to make it higher but it doesn't hurt anything to just cut it out.

I feel like an idiot for not noticing it before now, but the last two times I drove it was at night and I never really went towards the back of the car.

However, I was parked in the street the last few nights with that side out, so it's possible someone did it last night too. I have no way of knowing.
>>
>>16339618
Actually the more that I look at the damage it couldn't have happened in a parking lot.
It really looks like someone came up along side the car from the back and pushed into the bumper and then turned and moved forward.
So this really did most likely happen last night while it was parked in the street. And it was probably the old fuckers who live across the street from em.

By going this route I won't have to spend money getting the head milled, and inspected. I'll save a couple hundred. Plus I've already found some one who would want the old motor. So i'll get some money back at least when all is said and done.

Ive had mine for 3 days, and i fucking love it.
Ive chewed through half a tank in 3 days, driving to work, short distances, and a little bit through the hills and on the freeway. I know ive driven alot, but is this normal do you think?

My 07 camry used less than half a tank driving 260 kms on the highway...

Keep in mind the Integra has a 13.2 gallon capacity while the Camry has 18.5 gallon capacity. You should be able to get around 300ish miles to a tank.

How do modern day civics match up to the older generations? I'm questioning whether I should buy a new civic or just get an older one. It's exclusively used for work. My work will pay for a good portion of the car but I drive a fuck ton. Easily 16k in a year. I know most people would say to just buy a new one if my company is paying for almost half of it but if the reliability isn't as good as the older generations then I have no issue with being a used one.
>>
>>16348069
They're pretty consistent when it comes to reliability as long as it's a manual. Safest bet is a later model 9th gen. No idea what issues the new 10th gens may have.

So I found out my engine (J35Z2) is part of a big lawsuit concerning the VCM system burning oil, fouling plugs, and piston rings getting misaligned.

Honda has extended the warranty for just plugs and piston rings until sometime in 2019 which is about the same time my CPO powertrain warranty will end as well and will cover plugs and rings and the update to the vcm software. I've noticed oil consumption and slight vibrations during idle so far, and the dealer won't touch it until the check engine light comes on.

So now I'm trying to decide whether it really is a big deal and if I should get rid of the car or not. I really like it and I don't want to have to spend more money just to get a new car.

Yeah it's the auto. The manuels don't have VCM. Now that I've had some time to chill out, I think I'll keep it. but overall it's super chill. needs some fixing like the turn signals keep popping out and the hood latch is messed up but i'm going to be working on the car this winter to get it pristine for the springtime. still planning out the build. most likely it will remain generally stock until i start my full time job this summer post graduation.... only because right now i'm focused on finishing the TSX build right now, just gotta paint this mugen body kit on and install some tein coils i have in storage

And I need rear toe adjusted.
The car either pulls to the left, or the right, or both.

>>16352579
Mine stays pretty straight. I don't think the place I got lifetime alignment from knows how my Blox upper control arms work because my camber is never right. I just want even tire wear. ;_;

i was hooning in the snow and hit a dry patch and the cv had been creaky for a minute and it finally broke out and took everything with it.

i mean, going along on a corner and being dagumi then catching half-pavement, half-snow. wheel caves in shit goes flying, steering wheel doesnt work. etc.

10/10 would recommend a first gen cr-v

i replaced the cv and tie-rods and all that shit in the front, both sides. ripping skids the very next day.

but here's where i fucked up. i took the lazy way out. the suspension was beyond busted from all the bullshit i threw at it, but i never replaced any of it. i really regret that too this day.

so near the end of its life i think i had put 5-6 cv's in. 1 rebuilt transmission, i eventually did change some suspension components, but it was literally only the front left and right strut assemblies. i never replaced anything in the rear so it ended up acting like a fulcrum and fucking shit up even faster.

Yeah the guy was an awful owner. I can only imagine how bad the clutch was since it was possible to move it from a stop in fifth gear, since it was the only working gear left. Probably ran it dry of trans fluid and drove it til it died. I could hear rattling in the transmission when I pushed it backwards out of its parking spot.

Thoughts on the 10 gen civics with 1.5L turbo?
Will the turbo/cvt combo hold up over the long haul?
Will it be a reliable dd for work that's decently fun/hoonable?
>>
>>16353573
Auto Honda's are garbage, if you want a "fun" Honda, get the manual one. If you want turbo and manual, you'll have to get the hatch.
>>
>>16354166
Idk if I want a manual for my dd, my commute is less than 10 miles with quite a few stop lights.

I'm looking at getting an rx7, Miata, or something for a fun car I can beat on, but I need something reliable and modestly fun for a dd.

>tfw no Honda awd equivalent to the focus rs

You can get the new turbo civic with a manual.

Also turbo civic si is just around the corner

>>
>>16354762
Do your research faggot. Another example is Honda using the same trans as FCA and both having issues with it. If you buy an auto Honda just make sure to do trans oil change every 30k miles and never ever neutral drop it.

The best tank I've gotten with mine has been 650 kms a tank or there abouts. Usually if it's city driving I'll hit around 370 kms or so before it's dry.

That's soft driving though, fucker will gulp if I beat the shit out of it.

Looks like I'll be keeping her. It turns out the VCM thing isn't anywhere near as common as all the doom and gloom forum people made it look. I just panicked because it seemed like a big deal and this car has been bulletproof so far. And it actually might not even be affected by the problems the other cars have had

No tip of course, but I still make $99 tonight. I've just come to accept that my new Yonaka resonator is gonna rub on all kinds of shit just like my old setup. Still love the sounds though.

Yeah on Koni Yellows and Eibach Pro Kit springs. No tucking aside from the front driver side which I need to mess with to fix. Not sure why it's like that. Both shocks are new in the front.

Anyone try STP Injector cleaner? I put some in my tank tonight, hopefully it'll help clean out the engine.

>>16357906
How low are you? Have you considered just adjusting to a usable height? It's the sensible thing to do
>>
>>16358084
Intending to be two fingers from the fender if I can get that one corner right. The front shocks do have two settings, though. Right now it's on the lower one. I could try the higher one. Only time I scrape is on steep driveways just a bit and my resonator rubs on some speed bumps.
>>
>>16358092
Nobody except you is going to notice the difference in height. And then your shit doesnt scrape. My car is lowered too, I get that sometimes its shit no matter what. But it shouldnt do it regularly
>>
>>16358097
Hell it wouldn't do it at all if I didn't deliver. There's always gonna be some place where it'll rub. I might mess with it this weekend on my days off. Passenger side mud flap doesn't rub but the driver side that I'm having issues with does.
>>
>>16358119
Thats because you arent adjusting it with weight in the car homie

Add bricks and shit to drivers side before adjusting so that its appropriate for when your butt is in there

It's not one of those adjustable springs, just the perch has two settings. See the two notches in the two middle struts? I have them set to the lower notch. I thought it was just bad shock mount bushings but nothing really changed. It's like a finger and a half on the driver side and two fingers on the passenger.

Though a set of Ground Controls attached to them would fix everything. Way more control over the height.
>>
>>16358163
OH ok got it. Thanks for taking the time to post that. Yeah get some ground controls
