the coupling is between the engine and the wheels (indirect, driveshaft). these rotate at different rates determined by the gear ratios. the speed of the engine must closely match the speed of the wheels determined by the gear ratio when changing gear ratios. you learn the speeds by experience or by making a spreadsheet with engine speeds, gear ratios, and actual speeds for your wheel+tire diameter like a fucking nerd

I paid $550 for my driving school, and it was 10 hours of in car driving lessons and 4x3hr theoretical lessons in a classroom. Took like a month and a half with how they spaced it out around your high school days, twice a week or something.

In norway we pay around $2300 for a car drivers license, which means we get educated properly on what the fuck we're actually doing on the road. We're tested in special facilities for different driving conditions etc, as well as how we hold up during long driving distances for up to 5 hours with a few stops along the way. Theres also a pretty hard theoretical test which you have to pass. In return we have a really low amount of traffic accidents, and especially ones that are fatal or someone gets seriously injured.

It's regional. I did the minimum amount of lessons necessary, didn't fail either of the tests, paid €1800 for BE class. Would've been 1400 for B.

Oh and it's all done in a manual car, you can choose to do it in an automatic but you'll only be allowed to drive automatic until you take another 4 lessons and a test in a manual.

OH and if you want to hitch up a trailer with more than 2 wheels or a maximum load over 750kg that's another 5 lessons, practical test and €400.

For instance, I could drop the clutch in an upshift without giving it has in that car so I thought I could do it in my civic si too. Also you could really feel the bite point in that clutch, in my si it's more like a gradient and you really have to push the clutch in all the way
