What the fuck is the point of this thing? If this is supposed to be a "keyless" access, who the fuck thinks it is easier than pulling out your key and unlocking the car?
Emergency solution?

It was the 90's/early 2000's. It was keyless, but in the end it didn't make sense because you still needed a physical key to start the car.
It's why that tech didn't pan out.
Lots of shit doesn't pan out in the end with cars, but if companies don't take risks pushing tech we won't see anything good.

Yep, it was mostly just so you could lock your keys in your car. Was handy while you went for a run or something.
It always bugged me how there were only 5 buttons but they put 2 numbers on each button. I guess so people could make their codes easy to remember? Still seems dumb, I remember watching someone reenter their code because they hit 5 instead of 6.

I think there used to be a rim to that drum
Is Ford the only manufacturer (along with its sister brand) that still DOES this. I mean it is useful for that one and only scenario where you lock your keys in the vehicle when you don't have a spare on you.
>don't ever have to worry about locking your keys in the car
>don't have to go get your keys if you need to get something out of the car and you don't already have them on you
>anyone can get into your car if you need them to, you just have to tell them the code
>can lock the car with the keys in the ignition

isn't there a sequence of numbers you can punch in continuously for 5 minutes that would unlock any passcode. can't imagine obsolete tech bothering to do some security against numerous failed attempts when a car thief can just break the glass in a second anyways
