For real though, because I like my hot hatches small and fun, maybe an R53 works GP, or a Clio 182 Trophy if you really need rear seats

Hot hatch (shortened from hot hatchback) is a high-performance derivative of a car body style consisting of a three- or five-door hatchback automobile. The performance upgrades of a hot hatch are sometimes available for the estate variant of the car, often called sportwagons.

hot hatches are meant to be small.

clio's are the best, performance wise, of the reasonably priced hot hatches, even better than the golfs.
though they guzzle fuel something awful (my clio 197 would average 20mpg, and go as low as 10mpg when pushed), and the interior and ride are both spartan.
but ye, their performance to price ratio is unreal.
you can get a low mileage clio 200 for under £5k here in the uk, and they come with brembos, recaros and a fucking sick chassis as standard.

I agree though, GTI's are fun.
Do not-that-hot hatches with a very hot engine swap count? This one's one of my favorite Twingo builds ever (besides that obvious crazy V8 one)
>>16313901
That's a Clio 172 engine, by the way.
>>16313907
you know they do a sport version of the twingo, right?
the twingo 133
it's a pretty nice little car.

>>16313959
I know the RS exists, but they never made an RS version of the 1st gen. The most it ever got from the factory was a 75hp 1.2l 16V engine.
I like the RS for being one of the last NA hot hatches, like the Swift Sport.
>>16311385
>After a few laps, something started whining in the back of the car as I slid through the apexes. A few corners later the sound was gone . . . along with my all-wheel drive. The rear differential had suddenly just stopped working. The car was much better in front-wheel drive than I expected, but there was a lot of wheel spin exiting the corners while aggressively putting power down.
The rear drive unit has overheated and went out on several
>>16313907
isn't the twingo a 65/35 weight ratio?
That's gonna help...

YEah mate, real shit
Probably the best FF car in the 00's for tuneability and handling. While the Fiesta ST and Civic Si's use torsion beams, these are completely independent. 3100 Lbs sounds too heavy, but they handle very well for the weight they carry, and the aftermarket is huge. Also, a geared LSD in the front helps a lot with understeer, wheel spin, and torque steer.
Mazda did well with the speed3, wish they could release an AWD one sometime. Something like the MS6, where the haldex in it even split torque 50/50 under acceleration.

maybe in the american market, sure.
there are much better options available in EU.

this
as a fiat driver it puzzles me how other manufacturers charge about 50% more for their hot hatch compared to the base model
even the cheapest 1.3l diesel punto is a hot hatch as standard

>>16319080
Definitely not a hot or warm hatch, but elantras are your average commuter car. Comfy, economical, but handles like shit with no power to boot.

Yeah, IMO it does. In South Africa we had the RunX RSI, 1.8l 2ZZ-GE. It's basically the same class as the EP3 type R but more sleeper like. I always wanted one but the chassis just isn't that great and not worth putting money into.
