FAQ:
can I fit?
>if you're under 6'2" and aren't overweight you can fit without modification
can I daily drive one?
>yes most people can daily drive a miata no problem. I have commuted in miatas for 3 years now
even in the snow?
>yes miatas can drive well in the snow. (with four snow tires) Just be sure to spray off your undercarriage afterwards
>>16308958
>I have commuted in miatas for 3 years now
I'm just curious, have you really or is this just a copypasta?
>>16309000
It's true. I kind of came up with this pasta a while ago
>>16309011
Fair enough
Do you think I should plasti dip my shitty wheels to hide the scratches/imperfections?
(This is one of the better condition wheels)
Payi9ng for new ones would be too expensive for a mere cosmetic upgrade but plasti dip is cheap
>>16309025
Dip is cheap but dip also looks cheap. If you sand down some of the wavy and rough areas it could look better though. Also "glossifier" helps
>>16309039
Do you think sanding would work? a lot of areas look like the metal has been chipped off
>>16309073
It's probably not metal, just flaking paint with some oxidation underneath. Sanding it down will definitely help
>>16308958
Do Miatas make good second cars? Thinking of getting one for weekend use while I commute in my comfy wagon
>>16309099
Sorry to sound ignorant but do I need a special tool or is sandpaper fine?
>>16309105
Yes. I have a ford cmax as my commuter and then I drive my miata either after work or on the weekends. In the summer I commuted with my miata with the top down which I highly recommend.
>>16309107
Sandpaper works, yeah. I might get something like 250 grit to get the big chunks off then like 400 to make it smooth for paint/dip
>>16309111
I was thinking of saving up and getting one this summer (and just use the wagon for when I need to haul pax or stuff), so it would work out perfectly
>>16309105
Yes. Buy one.
https://youtu.be/CPQl1andzmU
guys how do I learn to drive like this? I feel like my handbrake does jack shit, how is this guy locking up the rears on entry so easily, especially on dry ground?
How hard would it be to replace both rear panels for my NA Miata? Both sides have rust in the rear quarter panels and want to know if it's cheaper to replace them then get them fixed
Just got a special edition 08 NC, basic first mods?
>>16309447
what spec?
get some aftermarket suspension if it's stock
get a smarttop chip if you have the PRHT
>>16309515
>smarttop chip
whats this?
>>16309523
lets you raise/lower the roof up to 36mph. usually the car has to be stationary.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31bXA245nnM
also, get rid of the flappy wind deflector if you care about such things
>>16309536
Ah nice, is it safe to do it at 36mph though?
I'd have thought with a power roof you wouldn't really want to do it after about 15
>>16309548
some newer cars let you raise or lower the roof at similar speeds by default, and i have no idea how strong the NC mechanism is compared to these cars.
i haven't done it much at 30mph+ but it's useful for occasions like if you're sitting in a traffic jam and it starts raining and you can start raising the roof safe in the knowledge that if the traffic starts moving you won't be stuck there waiting for the roof to fully close with people honking at you, or you won't have to move off with the roof stuck halfway
>>16309575
I must admit, as much as I'm not really a fan of the NC, they hit the nail on the head with the PRHT. Way better than the RF on the ND imo.
>>16309593
i like how the RF looks but i'd be interested to see what it's like for visibility.
>>16309604
I'm not a fan of how it looks rood down I must say, if I was in the market for an ND I'd probably opt for the cloth top
>don't have a Miata
>tfw
Am I still allowed in here?
Is the 1.6 that bad? It's gonna be getting sideways so I'm just worried it has too little power. Found a mint one with 64k on the clock and an LSD
>>16309899
Memes aside, Miata owners are one of the few not cancer car communities and won't shun non-owners.
...okay NA owners tend to be cancer more often than not
>>16309931
The 1.6 is fine. Unless you really have a lead foot, I don't see why you need to hoon in it. I drive my miata like a cruiser so maybe that's why
>>16309931
The 1.6 is completely fine. You are literally dealing with a 10% difference in crank horsepower. Get the 1.8 if you can, but if you find a bitchin 1.6, then such a negligible difference in performance isn't worth busting your balls over.
Hey faggots, whats the consensus on plastidipped hard tops? I found a hard top being sold locally that is plasti-dipped red that looks p nice
>>16309955
>...okay NA owners tend to be cancer more often than not
let me guess, nb owner?
>>16310092
Assuming its not shit then sure. Just remember you're gonna have to dip it after a year or two
>>16309955
>won't shun non-owners
How can they when they drive a Miata?
>>16309931
it's fine, you can still get power out of a 1.6. keep in mind that if its the factory lsd on a 1.6 then it won't do jack shit, viscous lsds on 1.6 go pad relatively quickly and are basically open diffs at this point. If it has a swapped torsen, that's another deal though
>>16309931
i own a 1.6 and i personally like it more than my friends 1.8
i feel like the 1.6 likes to rev higher
>>16309955
my boi nb master race
>if you're under 6'2" and aren't overweight you can fit without modification
Yeah, but it's really fucking tight if you don't want to drive with your fingertips. Like, always feeling the roof on your hair when the top's up tight.
>>16310874
>tfw 6'2"
I replaced my steering wheel with a 280mm momo wheel and it's absolutely tiny but I fit much better.
I don't know if I'd recommend such a tiny wheel for people without power steering though
have you ever had bad feelings about potentially ripping someone off?
i'm going to be picking up my NA this weekend and the old guy i'm buying it from wants ~3000 less than market value for it
like i want an amazing deal, but at the same time i feel bad ripping off a vietnam veteran
BRZ man here, looking to get a winter beater in the arctic circle as the roads are getting just a bit too salty.
not really interested in how the car would handle rust, but any insightful experiences from people who have used a NA or NB on some icy ass roads would be nice.
looking at a 200sx as well currently, somehow a decent S chassis is actually cheaper than a good NA over here. no idea how.
>>16310966
nigga the maximum market value for a NA is probably around $4,000, so unless you're paying $1,000 for it, i fail to see how you're ripping him off
>>16311124
for a 50k mile 97M with hard top, that's a $8000 car easy
>tfw no NA bodykit for the NB
>>16311242
LOL
>>16310119
It lasts a lot longer than that m8. I plastidipped some chrome trim and badges like 5 years ago on my brothers car and it still looks good
I can't tell if I should be interested or not.
>>16310397
Yeah my 1.8 feels kind of funny from 6800 rpm to 7200. Feels kind of wheezy. Could also be because I advanced the base timing a little bit.
I feel like the 1.6 vibrates less too
If I could do it all over again I'd buy a cheap 1.6 l miata and put the money i saved into a turbo setup. Or if you can find a cheap 1.8 one that works too. 1.8 turbo parts seem to be in more abundance also.
>>16311108
Miata handles great in the snow at stock ride height and with a torsen LSD and snow tires. Theyre really predictable and high enough for moderately deep stuff. pretty good on hard packed snow. Don't expect to be able to plow through deep powder or crust though. My car is lowered an inch and it's still ok. I also run 175/65R14 Blizzaks
>>16311367
I'm gonna be brutally honest and say I've never driven a miata. but just from apperances alone, the shorter wheelbase has me doubting.
are cars with diffs scarce at all? or will you typically find one as cheap and easy as any other miata?
sorry but i know fuck all about them
>>16311392
Short wheelbase does make it a little twitchy compared to something long, but the weight is balanced pretty well. They're better than an AW11 or SW20 are in the snow. Miatas naturally understeer a bit. And it if does oversteer while giving it gas it's pretty controllable with countersteer.
>>16311335
> salvage
>>16311392
As for the diffs, 90-93 either had open diffs or vlsd which sucks. 94+ had either open diffs or mechanical torsen diffs. You just need find out which trim package your car has and depending on that it may or may not be equipped with one.

>tfw can't find NA in a good shape
>tfw NA in good condition got more expensive than NB
where do you live nigger?
>>16310966
>>16311242
LOL so you're paying fucking $5k for a NA miata. LMAO and you're feeling sorry for someone else for getting "ripped off"
my fucking sides
>>16312949
>LOL
get out faggot
>>16309593
not really. PRHT was hideously ugly. NC was an unattractive model as a whole. RF is the most aesthetic car Mazda has made since the NA as long as its not in white. there's a reason they didn't go back to that bulge top.
>>16311242
fucking retard
>>16308958
ALAS BROTHERS WE ARE CLOSE.
ARE YOU A MAZDA FANBOY ENOUGH FOR THEM TO HAVE ACCEPTED YOU??
Also it worth getting un automatic? The dealer im with which btw is the o ly dealer in the country only offers it in automatic and as much as i hate that i really cant afford the soft top version
>>16313093
dude, your english is broken as fuck.
please dont get an autotragic, it takes all the fun away from owning a mx5.
>>16310095
To be fair there is a way higher percentage of fucc boi na drivers than any other gen, and yes I drive an nb1
Why do all of you favor the Miata over the Z4? Not trying to shitpost or anything, just curious.
>looks good, interior is superior imo
>multiple engine choices, bigger engines
>hard top on most models
>>16313740
BMW comes with BMW maintenance costs along with a higher entry fee too. One of the best things about Miatas is how fun they are despite how cheap they are to buy and run.
>>16313740
z4 is heavier, has shittier handling and isn't really a roadster
and for the price of Z4 in a good condition you could get a miata and mod it to be faster than Z4
also shittier looking but that's personal preference
>>16313766
>>16313802
Thank you
Also not really sure how I feel about the 2017 fastback. Doesnt it take away some of the freedom of a open roof that a regular cabriolet gives
I want to buy a miata as a daily. Its either late production NA or early production NC. Im from yurop and we have pretty harsh winters here and salty roads. I also wanna use it for some fun drives and longer trips, so driving comfort is a factor here. Which would be the better choice?
>>16313740
I'd love an E89 Z4, but can't afford one so I drive an NB miata
I agree though, if I was in the market for an ND Miata I'd just drop the cash on a low-mileage Z4 instead
>>16313843
A lot of people say that the NC is more comfortable than the NA. It is a more "modern" car. There's loads of threads over on miata.net that are worth reading, you'll see opinions of both sides.
Probably best to see if you can sit in both, though
>>16313865
I've sat in the NA. Im 6'1" and just barely fit in there. If I were to get the NA I'd probably install some low profile seats. Also for the price of a NC here I'd be able to get the NA and pimp it out really well to my likings. Tho further maintenance here would be cheaper on the NC.
I probably wouldnt even mod it. Also, does the NC rust a lot like the meme car?
>>16313740
I'd take a Z4M or 35iS over any miata. But the 3.0 barely has a better power to weight ratio than my lightly tuned NC 2.0l and is reportedly less fun to drive, let alone the slower 23/25/28 variants
>>16312956
I agree the PRHT is ugly but the removable hardtop model looks great imo
>>16313766
How cheap is maintenance generally? I'm curious about getting a cheap first car that I can keep up with over the years, and worried about my dad's old BMW or Mercedes costing me an arm and leg down the line since he's always been stingy about regular mainteneance and repair.
>>16313740
bruh no one here favors the miata over the Z4. The miata is just a more practical option because of its price. Don't get me wrong, I love my miata, but I would love a Z4 too and ideally I would like to own one of each.
>>16314042
DAAAAAAAAAMN
what are those wheels?
>>16313740
Because I want a light and rough car, not a comfy landbarge.
Will this fit on my '90 NA?

>>16314982
bump...need to know
>>16314736
depends which one. i'd prefer a fully loaded ND RF over a base model Z4 2.slow, just as i'd prefer a Z4M over a rusty 90hp shitbox NA

Hello tiny friends
Just curious. I've heard before that the RX8 might be considered a Hardtop Miata with +2 seats and Dorito power, but what Miata are people talking about?
The only one I know about is this tiny 2300 pounder I see riding around. That's like 750 pounds lighter than the RX8
Anyone have the WebM of the Miata speeding through curvy roads at night? Plus post
2001 NB, 86k miles, single owner, stock, full service history
$8200
Go for it?
>>16315991
>$8,200
Fuck no. I bought my 2002 with similar mileage in great condition for about $5,500 and even that was overpaying.
>>16315991
>$8200
Fucking lol
>>16315847
>>16315689
They're talking about the NC. They're based on the same chassis
>>16316448
Thanks bud, was curious. They're not as similar looking as I expected.
>the miata will ALWAYS be a shitty porsche 911
>>16316628
I don't think miatas and 911s are really in the same class
hi /mg/
are the stock speakers in an NA any good? cheers
>>16313093
>RF auto more $$$ then 6MT ST

nigga you need to step back and reconsider your options if you cant afford the ST ND but want the RF

Was sauce ever found btw?
So it seems like my hardtop will not latch hard enough. I have the latches fully adjusted (tight as possible) but it really doesn't latch with much clamping force. Idk how to explain, but it seems like the latches need to be unbolted and moved back, and then bolted down again. Anyone have any ideas?
>>16316913
>tfw never had a miata with working headrest speakers
Urgent pls
Guys, I never touched my tranny and he's wet. Do I got a leak or could I have missed with some lube while I've been working
Does it look right?

Am I missing sumthing senpai? Babe was in an accident after all
>>16316930
Look at that fucking turbo size. It's fucking massive.
Guess who just fucking dropped their hardtop on their quarter panel and dented it? Wow im a fucking idiot. Scratched the paint a little too.
>>16308958
Should I buy one new? I mean, have miatas a long enough life to buy one that is 10 years old?
>>16318013
They last a long time, a good used one, even a 1990, can have many years of reliable service left. But if you can afford the newest model I would go for that, they're pretty sweet.
>>16309073
>>16309107
Chris fix literally has a video on how to fix curb rash but the general idea is in there on how to sand and to repaint them and make them look brand new
Shit's fucking awful, what should I offer and what would I need to fix? Just want a shitty beater meme car to ruin.

Please pray for me guys. I am changing my brake pads and rotors today. It sounds simple in theory but I happen to be one of those people who are genetically predisposed to everything going wrong when wrenching. It's happened with my motorcycles and I expect it to happen with this as well.
>>16317261
Not that I know of. I would also like to know tho if anyone does know.
>>16318215
>>16318031
>>16318026
dude...absolutely not. that thing is a steaming pile of shit. a miata in that kind of condition would go for around $1200 here...and that would be for a mechanically sound one with moderate exterior damage (rust, dents, etc...) definitely not one that leaks oil and coolant. fuck, that thing is a headache waiting to happen.
just look for something else man. there are far better deals than that out there. don't get too assblasted over the LSD, the whole thing is a meme if you're using good tires
>>16319010
>don't get too assblasted over the LSD, the whole thing is a meme if you're using good tires
but how will the faggot rip sick skids with good tires and open diff?
>>16318013
Sure, theyre fantastic cars
Its always up in the air if an entirely new car, even down to the engine, will still be flawless 10 years from now just with regular maintenance. But it should be fine, iirc the only major issue its had the couple years its been out has been a glass transmission from bad materials, but thats gotten fixed for a while now in the recent batches
>>16319370
A welded diff
Torsen doesn't drift that great
>>16318936
Pro tip: don't try to compress the rear caliper pistons to retract them. You're supposed to use an Allen key
>>16319502
well, i didn't even make it that far so i am good. everything is a complete mess at the moment.
it took me like an hour to figure out how the stupid fucking clips work to hold in the brake pads. to be honest, I am still not entirely convinced I have them in correctly but my documentation and all the online documentation i can find shows some different clip system for NAs which is different from what I have. It isn't intuitive at all. I have no fucking clue how to properly orient these clips
second, my piston is only out by perhaps about a half inch but I can't get the caliper over the brake pad bracket so I am thinking I have to buy a c-clamp to retract this piston.
guess ill do it tomorrow
>>16319554
Yeah the front ones you retract with a clamp
Don't be so quick to give up lol
How would you compare mx5 and mr2? They are both about the same price from where I am. Looking for a car where I will learn to drive RWD and see if 2 seater fits my life style, before I drop mad bucks for an s2000.
You fuckers made me want to buy a Miata and I live in polar bear country Norway. I also live in the city and have no use for a car.

>>16320177
I've only ever driven an AW11, 1.8 NA and 1.6 NA. I'd say the 1.6 miata and 1.6 non supercharged AW11 accelerate about the same, but the 1.8 miata is a bit quicker than both. Handling wise I like the FR layout for its predictably and ease of maintenance.
AW11 is getting pretty old at this point too. I haven't driven an SW20 or ZZW30 but that's another option.
>>16320365
It's SW20 vs NB. 154hp and 1260kg for mr2 while miata has 116hp and 1065kg. Should be pretty similar. I'm asking more for driving enjoyment.
>>16320245
There's literally nothing wrong with the video you linked, ignore him.
>>16320413
1.6 NB?
>>16320413

Im sure this has been discussed over and over, but how do you guys feel about the 2017 Fastback? It looks amazing imo, and considering I live in a cold climate I'll benefit more from a hard top. Holy fucking shit boys. 5 hours later, I finally managed to finish changing my front brake pads and rotors. I took it for a quick test spin - everything seems to be working OK, although I slammed on the brakes really hard to bed them as per the instructions and now they make a weird sticking noise whenever I let off the brake pedal
NC2 vs ND
wot do?

I'm an Sw20 owner with plenty of Miata experience. MR2 and Miata is for a different driver ultimately so it's not that useful to compare but I'll give you the jist anyways
ZZW30 with a 2ZZ rapes miatas
AW11 is more like a backwards corolla and is on the same level as fun as an NA by a different driving style/dynamics
SW20 is borderline a fucking GT car, terrible first car but is godly in experienced hands.
I really REALLY don't recommend an MR car as a first RWD car since it requires a sharp driver so stick to something FR unless your heart is really set on MR for whatever reason
Getting my hardtop paint matched for $250 tomorrow from a local guy. Excited to see how it turns out. Pic related is some of his work

>>16321901

>>16322505
>factory suspension is quite soft
>heaviest miata (it's not heavy though, only 2450 lbs stock, and there is weight to remove)
>PRHT is ugly and heavy
that's pretty much it. They're actually really fast cars with a few mods. The chassis is also much more rigid than the NA/NB. Watch this vid of a lightly modified NC pass a 911 on the burgerking: https://youtu.be/tQ3x462rlmg
Another cool thing about the NC is the 2.5 swap from the Mazda5.
>>16316628
What did he mean by this
>>16322535
Are the NC any good as DDs though? I can't justify an NA to myself anymore. Their meme status here has driven the price up beyond what I'm willing to pay for what I'd get.
>>16322573
Yeah they're arguably the best miata for daily driving.
>>16322573
And if you're gonna daily drive it, the PRHT honestly might not be a bad choice
>>16322619
Wouldn't mind a powered roof if it was my DD desu. I used to live with a manual targa roof on a car that was basically a toy and I didn't mind taking it on and off but at their price an NC would be my primary car and a push button roof would be a nice feature.
>>16322643
Also check out smartTOP
"The smartTOP roof control unit allows opening or closing the convertible top while driving at slow speeds. It works similar to power-windows and opens or closes the roof automatically at the touch of a button. It is not necessary to stop the vehicle and pull the handbrake to operate the roof."
Hi mg
I'm in the market for an NA as a first real car
Is it best to just avoid SNC NA's like the plague, especially as I have no car work experience? Or is the problems associated with having a SNC exaggerated? Thanks.
Looking into getting my first Miata, what should I be on the lookout for? It's a 93, dunno if its cool to post Craigslist links on here so I won't for now.
>>16322835
Also should mention it's one owner, got 96k on it for $4k
So, i'm torn on either a celica, a miata or an mr2
The Miata is admittedly the shittiest of the bunch, but it's also 2.8k€ used
I'm 190cm or about 6'3
Is it a bad idea?
>>16322724
They aren't exaggerated. Honestly there are so many miatas out there that you really shouldn't even have to consider a snc
>>16322908
I'm 6'1 and it's a bit cramped. If I was 6'3 I don't think I'd fit very well.

The prht is ass
Every person that I know that sprung for one over the soft top regrets it.
Well besides my m8 with a 2015 mx5 because it only has like 10k on it
The top is heavy
The top rattles
The top creaks and groans
The tops rear window is smaller than the soft tops
The top will not operate in low temperatures
The top doesn't seal as well against the windows/roof as the soft top and removable hard top, so it's louder than the soft tops
The top will shit the bed and not in the up or down position, it will shit the bed halfway up and lmao about fixing yourself
Also it's uglier than the RHT and costs almost as much
Theres a reason mazda stopped making them halfway through '15 but you can get a NC with a 2016 vin

>>16323989
A bit overpriced, in my opinion. If $3,999 is the Out The Door price (taxes, dealership fees, etc... all included), then it might be within the realm of acceptable if you have deep pockets but this isn't that great of a deal otherwise.

5 or 6 speed? What kind of fluid are you running?
Is the European 1.6 on the NB as shitty as people say?
>>16323989
>buying a miata from a dealer
nah
>>16324581
5 speed. 1990, don't know when the last time the fluid was changed
>>16324752
Might want to start with some new fluid, lots of people had success with that. MT-90 or Ford XT-M5-QS if you can afford it. Some other easy things to check are the shifter boots and the bushing that sits in the turret.
I have a 6 speed with a crunchy 2nd gear, it's been that way since I got it. I've done everything shy of a clutch replacement and a transmission rebuild and it's still pretty crunchy especially when cold. Fluid swap made the biggest difference for me; it's butter smooth when warmed up.

>>16309025
I personally don't care how my wheels look, I run junkyard rims on my miata. but I know a lot of people care about their rims, plasti dip will just make it look cheap in another way.
I would honestly just buy new rims if you are concerned about scratches and imperfections on your rims.
>>16311341
I have drove in a 1.6 before and it felt pretty much the same as my 1.8 that I daily drove for a few years. My 1.8 with stock exhaust made pretty good high rpm power. 4 cylinders really shine at peak rpm, sounds like something isn't right.
have you been keeping up with your maintenance? Any exhaust leaks?
>>16325234
Look in California for miatas as you can find some decent ones for a good price or just keep on the look out for miatas in your area.

You can see that the torque curve drops gradually as the rpms go past 5700 all the way to redline. It still makes even power it just sounds wheezy is all and seems to vibrate a lot
Finished swapping my 1.6 to a Dodge Neon coil pack. Not too bad of a job, got it running on the second attempt(had to figure out some wiring). Runs good, drives great. Just gotta get a set of plug wires that fit. The miata plug wires don't fit right, and leave the leads exposed(hence the tape)
>>16326370
What's the benefit of this? Hotter spark?
>>16326386
Basically. Miata coil pack peaks at 28kv, while the Neon coil pack peaks at 32kv-36kv(Stock vs MSD). The hotter spark gives a more complete burn. Not something you would really notice as far as power goes, but it allows the engine to run a little more efficiently.

Hey, thanks so much for helping me out on this! You guys are all an awesome community. Who knows, maybe I'll be joining you all soon.
Do you guys feel that the lack of space makes it super unpractical to own? My first car was a hatchback so I know I might be overly paranoid. My wife would have a bigger car so it wouldn't be too bad I dont think.

Weight, price, cost of repairs, can't afford that shit yet because >renting.
I've never driven a Z4 but want to try an E89 M or 3.0si, or a newer 35i. Would probably get a Z4M Roadster in a few years to sit beside my NB because I don't care about practical cars.

never had an issue personally. I just throw everything in the passenger seat. the trunk has plenty of space for everything else. if you live in an area where it's warm, you can take the top down and ratchet strap shit to the space behind the seats

Is it worth considering an MX5 as a second car to own just for fun?
There's plenty for sale for under £1000 ($1250) but they're mostly NBs. I don't need a second car at all so I won't go spending any more than that.
Does anyone know where and how pic related electrical cables exactly run to? I've checked in the center console, but I'm not entirely sure.
They are from the center brake light and the lighting of the number plate. Ideally, I would like a switch somewhere in my interior (2001 NB) to toggle between number plate lighting, as I often leave my trunk open and the lights go on. I don't want to empty the battery.
Thanks for your input.
>>16328214
I have my MX5 as my only car just for fun, so yeah
Some of the sub-£1k NBs should be in decent condition but not all.
>>16328170
First time I've ever seen one in person. It was in mint condition and looked exactly like the ones from online.
I guess it could've been a newish Miata with an aftermarket hardtop and a similar paint job.
>>16328429
It runs back into the main body loobehind the panel behind the seats. You have to remove have the interior near the top for access. From there it is fed into the ecu.

It's an ND but with ~200lbs visual upgrade, and that's all. You might not think thats a lot but the normal ND only weighs 2300 pounds.
BUT that's still sub 2500 curb weight car, 200lbs under the gt86 for example
Whether it's worth it is entirely up the the person considering it. But just know you're only paying and extra 3 grand for visuals
>>16328985

Miata is affordable and is fun to drive. Can easily be tuned (already done by others safely) to 200+ bhp.

they are excellent but much cheaper in yurop
kyb agx is also good but last time i've seen them they were 300$ brand new
keep in mind i'm from yurop so i don't know if the price is good, but as for the quality i can vouch for them, i had a chance to drive both miatas with eibach springs and agx and the car handled exquisitely

>>16313740
I'm a BMW fanboy but it's not even close
>looks good, interior is superior imo
Opinions, and not even good ones.
>multiple engine choices, bigger engines
Shame it's significantly heavier, numb to drive and you can't see shit out of it which defeats the entire fucking purpose of the car.
It's .2 seconds faster to 60 for double the price and has none of the appeal that got people to buy Miatas
How gay do I need to be to get one? Do Mazda dealers have gaydars so they can refuse a sale if you're not gay enough?
>>16330032
Yeah but if you want to pass it just keep telling the dealer how totally straight you are, be sure to mention how often you sleep with women even though nobody is asking. You'll definitely pop up as a closet case
>>16330037

>>16313740
cba to reply to all the replies to this post but most of the replies are treating the entire miata range as one single car, and likewise the Z4.
there's a big variety of cars within each range (more so with the miata i guess) and i don't think you can really argue that all miatas are better than all Z4s, or vice versa. even when it comes to things like bang for buck, a ND does not really offer much bang for buck at current prices (though it's a good car of course)
Why? Isn't it embarrassing enough to drive in a miata, why would you paint it in this disgusting color? Anyway, probably going to checkout the car tomorrow, see in what state it is. If I'm lucky it's actually a plastidip.

My younger brother had a miata in highschool. I was always too fat for it. Now looking back he was pretty cool for having that car in a standard.
Should I trade in my FWD for a miata? I've lost a little weight but I just don't know if I should get the same car as my younger brother. Should I just get a mustang and pretend I'm the cooler brother?
Damn this is hard.

>>16309177
A mixture of pulling the e brake and clutch kicking. If your e brake isn't engaging like it should you may need to adjust it. They have videos on how to do it on a miata on youtube.
Then find an empty lot far from people and have fun!
>>16332773
I know how to clutch kick. Handbrake is important for reasons other than initiating a drift. Like increasing the radius + angle of a drift and scrubbing speed mid drift. Watch the part where he talks about high speed entry https://youtu.be/XI29zrUBx4Q
>>16333009
Would better pads and slotted rotors help them bite harder? Maybe extend the handbrake for more leverage?
>>16334250
why doe
>>16333971
They would bite a little harder, might help. So would going to larger brakes. More surface area, more to grab. Tightening the cables makes a big difference.

hi /mg/. I'm in a dilemma.
I've narrowed my choice in my next DD down to a couple of cars: an '05 Mazdaspeed Miata or a 2nd gen WRX not owned by a boyracer hooning faggot.
There's a couple of possibilities for each model but I can't decide between the two. I learned manual transmissions on an NA, I dailied an NB for awhile and loved it, and the Mazdaspeed is super appealing. However, I live in a snowy area of the midwest with pisspoor road maintenence and can't deny that'd it make more sense for my area to drive an Impreza.
I also understand I'll get biased answers here, but genuinely curious on your thoughts, especially those that have driven/owned either Imprezas or NB/MS Miatas.
